Installing a custom wire trellis for my wall of climbing ivy vines

Here is the DIY trellis I made for my wall of climbing ivy vines. This wire trellis is in a classic diamond shape, aligned with the shed roofline. The ivy plants are tied to the trellis with tomato wire in a few spots, but the ivy does hold to the wire lines a bit on its own.
While this trellis isn’t exactly “invisible”, it is quite minimal. It would be at home in a semi-formal courtyard garden or a modern green wall. The nice thing about this ornamental garden trellis is that it doesn’t cost much to build and is quite adaptable in terms of size and shape.

Thanks for this very helpful video as I'm wanting to do much similar project on my garden wall and been wondering how to attach the wire to the wall. Now I know! Happy gardening and being if similar mind please share more information what you do in your garden...

This looks great! I am making one as a privacy screen and was going to use chicken wire, I believe this will look far classier than what I had planned. Almost a year removed from this video are you still happy with it? Thanks!

Oh I'm so glad! Yes, still very happy with it. The ivy grew about a foot more up each wire before the plants went dormant in the fall. Its nice now because you can kind of see the pattern forming as the plants cross. We are hopefully having our last winter-y weekend here, and I'm hoping they start growing again when the weather warms here. But yes, overall, very pleased with this project!

Your very clever. But that stuff spreads its disgusting do you know how to kill ivy attacking your garden and rooting itself to my property from neighbours.

I love the trellis but when I saw the ivy, I thought, "Oh no, nightmare!" I'm going to be putting up a trellis on the side of my garage and I'm going to plant clematis to climb it.
