Installing a MAJOR brake upgrade on my e36 328i... (e36 build part 5)

In today's build episode, we install drilled rotors, beautiful new street pads, and fresh hardware on Dory the e36 328i. She's been long overdue for a brake kit upgrade, so this build episode has been a long time coming. I struggled a bit with a few things on this brake upgrade -- the brake pad wear sensor replacement, for example, was no fun.

Nice job on the brakes Logan! Might be wise to suggest ppl consult the bentley manual if they try this diy. Looking forward to the next part of the build

Good call Dave - I get all my torque specs from strangers on forums who own the bentley Manual themselves, so I’m a bit of a bad example :) I should really just get my own, and would echo your advice that others do the same.

Sweet!! I found doing the handbrake hardware with the hub installed fairly horrendous... or maybe I am just ham-fisted. Either way it's certainly not worth pulling the hub for, but you have some fun times ahead to look forward to!

eek! you’re right, i think i’ll just try to tough it out and wiggle everything in there as best i can. If it doesn’t work that’s fate telling me i don’t need an e brake i guess

I would never attempt brakes. I’m very impressed with your work. I really want to see that hand brake video. I agree it really is nuts 🥜 that only a few nuts and bolts 🔩 are between us and an untimely demise.

hahaha honestly if you have a torque wrench, some sockets and access to youtube it’s pretty hard to mess up! And i’ll be sure to do that handbrake fix soon, still such a mystery.

@@logan-taylor Dude….YT has taught me a lot. My dad taught me stuff but it was on old cars where there were no electronics and what not. I’ve been working on my son’s car and he will ask questions and I’m like “How do you not know this?” Then it hit me “ohh this is what it’s like to only ride in well maintained late model cars your whole life.” Crazy.

It’s wild how few people work on their own cars. Not a superiority thing, just interesting how we use cars every day but don’t understand a good chunk of the underlying tech. Props for working on your sons car that’s awesome!
