I just noticed this video. It was made just prior to my discovery of your channel. Here in Texas the product of choice is a limestone base which is generally used for all these private roads. I only have done one driveway with it, and I didn't have that tilt mechanism or your excellent lesson about how to best spread the rock. This road base doesn't spread so nicely with different sizes of aggregate and with the straight bucket, my edges came out raggedly. Now I have the secret to do better work next time. Thank you as always for sharing your expert procedures.

The gravel always looks so great after being packed like that!! I just had them pave my 200 ft driveway widening out to 50 ft for the 3 car garage attached to the house with a 10 x 24 pad beside the garage . There’s also a separate 40 ft long pad 40 ft wide up to the separate 30 x 40 shop with a 10 x40 parking pad beside the shop. They were here last week. I watched them all the way through (new to me contractor) and it looks good. Time will tell,,,,,,,. It’s much nicer to plow the snow off and I have several collector vehicles that I don’t want driving on the gravel. Had paved yards for the last 30+ years,,,,,,,, don’t want gravel now!! Haha. Got to meet some of the neighbours though when they asked to see the driveway!! I think that 3 of the neighbours are going to have their drives done now as well. I’m getting used to neighbours being as close as they are here,,,,, ggrrrrr! Couple of them have shops and cars as well though so it might not be so bad,,,,,,,,,. The fellas from up North will be coming by as well. Should work out! I shouldn’t need to hire a contractor for my roads again!! Still love watching it on KZfaq, mind you. I like the idea you have of varying up the content and the length of the videos. You are an interesting guy with a lot of experience & knowledge! Why not share that!! I hope the channel, and you, benefit from the format!! I’ll be watching,,,,,,,

Wanting to install my own driveway. Should I use larger stones like #3s or #5s as a base layer, then #57s then crusher run on top of fabric OR should I jump straight to 12” or so of crusher run on fabric before paving? Debating on which to do. Our soil is dry for the most part, no trees or anything that would retain water

since everyone is talking about skid steers in the comments how do you feel about the power in the kubota compared to the takeuchi, i’m sporting the cat with the door and it’s the worst and the thing is under powered to boot, i’ve run a takeuchi and those are really strong, i’m curious about the kubota, i’m a cat guy, but i may bail on it because even though i don’t like those machines i’m in it a lot... watcha think mike?

I'm looking to make a path on my property with something like that material you are using. Is it similar in consistency to reprocessed asphalt that is taken up from old roadways or more like a compact gravel? Thanks.

Not only fix or prevent soft spots but mainly keeps the ground from eating the stone. You can put 10 times that amount of stone on and the ground will keep eating it year after year. The fabric saves thousands of dollars in stone.
