Installing a Rear Protection Plate on a 2018 VW Tiguan 4Motion (3rd Gen MQB)

Here's a quick video of how to install a rear bumper protection plate on a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan MQB. This bumper guard is a genuine VW part bought from the VW's parts center.

I should’ve bought this for my Golf R before I scratched the bumper from taking stuff out of my trunk. At least now, this bumper protector will cover the scratches.

The most common reason for getting scratches on the bumper is from loading/unloading luggages with wheels. Uber drivers that transport passengers to/from airports should install bumper protector on their vehicles.

Did you take off the clear film first or did you install over it?

Any issues with the bumper protector rubbing against the lift gate due to lake of space between the Liftgate bottom edge and the protector? Just installed one on my 2023 Atlas (Not Crossport), and have issues with the protector rubbing against the lift gate causing etching in the painted edge of the lift gate. Have you seen this before?

Will this work with the powered lift gate? I’ve read that on some cars, they bumper protectors make the car think there is something in the way and the hatch won’t close

I’m not sure, but I would cut out a piece of cardboard and tape it to the bumper to see if it causes any issues with the powered lift gate.

It works fine with the power lift gate. Have had them on 2 Arteons and 2 Tiguans, no issues.

Definitely will save bumper damage, personally I’d spray the indented surface car colour, remember, a heat gun will help to remove protector plate, apply a new one, all good.

Just an FYI bud. I bought the chrome one for my Tiguan and it has 22 of the "bumps", not 17. So there's a slight difference between the two. Thanks for the how to though!

Matthew Fura Thanks for the update. The rear bumper plate I installed is discontinued so I’m assuming the current models has 22 bumps instead of 17 because only the brush aluminum finish was available when I bought it from the dealer.

Keep it. I don’t like the way they look either, but I scratched the bumper on my Golf R accidentally when taking stuff out of the trunk, and now i’m definitely getting one of these, because the scratch is hideous.
