How to install ditch lights.
I installed a pair of Rigid Ditch LED light pods (d series pro amber) for my 2019 Toyota Tundra Overland rig build.
These are amber flood lights , which are perfect for the way I intend to use them.
This was a relatively easy install that took a little under an hour, including the installation of the brackets for the hood, which was from Cali raised.
There are many different ways to mount and install the lights, and I show you how I did mine.
Cheers!

Nice lights Edward and I would also leave the wires on duck tape until your satisfaction is 100%. Katie needs to get something for all of your toys, maybe a Spa day from your Patreon viewers, I'd do it for Katie. Headlight Revolution have some nice LED lights for your truck and I would add it to your daytime running lights next. DON'T COVER THE TRANSMISSION INTAKE WITH A LIGHT BAR, my friend did it and cost him a large repair bill plus towing!

Hey Edward - relatively new follower - loving all your videos man. Great content and camera work (found you via Primal Outdoors, another great dude). Question for you - I have '14 Tacoma that i'd definitely consider doing this on since i'll be moving to Colorado soon...did you remove the hood for those bracket installs? I'm guessing you did them one at a time (and not actually removing the entire hood) but i'm curious how that part of the install went (and if you had to have one side held up while unscrewing the other side). Also, possibly a stupid question considering all the other mods we tend to do to our trucks, but would mounting lights this way affect fuel efficiency, or even generate more wind noise? Thanks!
@KrokemOutdoors
@KrokemOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
Uri Biler hey, great questions! On my Tacoma and the Tundra, I installed the brackets one side at a time. Each side had 2 bolts, so I started with the drivers side; loosened both bolts on that side, then took only one bolt out, slid in the bracket, screwed that one bolt back on. Then I unscrewed the other bolt and slid the rest of the bracket in there, then screwed the 2nd bolt back on 👍. As for any wind noise, I hardly heard a difference. But then again, I did have an exhaust system on both trucks, so that may have drowned out any noise
@KrokemOutdoors
@KrokemOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
Uri Biler also, not noticeable difference in fuel efficiency

Check out diode dynamics for the light bar In your bumper. I went with their 42”. It fills the space In the bumper perfectly and I think looks cleaner than others I’ve seen. Puts out a ton of light. I went with the diffused driving pattern beam. So far so good. I jst got their 50 “ for the roof and went w rigid srm for ditch lights.
@KrokemOutdoors
@KrokemOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
Stevo G I was actually considering diode dynamics after seeing a bumper light install video of theirs, but my friend linked me to a crazy sale that rigid was having on their 30 inch radiant combo pattern light bar (over 60%off), so I had to get it! Sounds like you won’t have any trouble lighting up the roads at night 👍. Are you getting any glare off your hood from the 50” ?
@stevog44
@stevog44 5 жыл бұрын
Edward Shin wow 60%, can’t blame you for going with them either, they do make good stuff. I probably saw the same video, that’s how I ended up going with diode dynamics haha. So far no complaints. My 50” roof bar is currently riding in my back seat. I have not been able to install it yet due to a broken ankle/heel bone. I should have it mounted within a week and can report back to you. I do expect some glare but I went with the straight up driving beam so I don’t expect it to be too bad, and with the dark color of our trucks it should absorb a bit of that glare also. I purchased SoCal super truck light bar mount brackets in case you are looking for some. They sell them for both curved and straight bars.

Something realy cool if u plan on mounting phones, 2way radios, or I pads to your dash, that is tundra specific is the ics fabrication ram mount. Stumbled across them from a you tube video and am pleased with the quality and ingenuity of the product.

@KrokemOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
Stevo G man, sorry about your ankle. That’s a bummer 😮. I ran into a few of the Ics mount videos too! Lol. I considered it, but not sure I want to drill over the top center console. Maybe down the line though... good looking out! And looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the light bar after you mount it🤙

Edward Shin thnx dude, jst started therapy, should be walking soon. I did manage to mount my rigid srm ditch lights last nigh on the cali raised brackets. Not quite as bright as I expected and I think I should have went with the diffused driving pattern instead of driving pattern but I’ll get out and do some more testing in a couple days. My decked system will be here on wed. Hope to have that and my bar installed by the weekend. I’ll let ya know how it goes.

I've been thinking of doing the same thing, but with the clear ones. They sell amber covers for them. What I was wondering is how hot do they get? Would the amber covers melt with prolonged use? Btw, are you considering a suspension upgrade yet? Not saying you need one, just curious. That Trigger system is pretty nice!
@KrokemOutdoors
@KrokemOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
Art M hmm that’s a very good question. I think if you got the covers from a well-reputed company, they wouldn’t hesitate to replace them if they melted (but I haven’t heard of any amber covers melting). No suspension upgrades until I get a separate daily driver to be able to fit the low ceiling garages of Portland, lol. Maybe a small beater car, and then the lift kit will come to fruition 👍👍

@@KrokemOutdoors Rigid makes them, but originally I was going with the spot beam. They're pretty intense. Now, the flood beam seems more practical.

@KrokemOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын

@@KrokemOutdoorsJust the ditch lights right now. I wanted to install a small light bar in the bumper, but the stock plastic "skirt" bumpers on first gens aren't very stable. Btw, would really be interested in knowing if you get much glare from the lights reflecting off the hood.
@KrokemOutdoors
@KrokemOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
Art M maybe combo lights would work for your setup then? As for the glare, I believe I don’t see it for 2 reasons; 1. The paint is dark gray, so it absorbs more of the reflective light than a white paint, and 2. The amber lighting isn’t as bright, so It’s not as “loud” when it projects . Regardless, you’re gonna love yours 👍👍
