The epoxy resin we used is TERRAZZCO EZPour Epoxy 158. Epoxy terrazzo has a 5:1 ratio of a Part A epoxy resin (1 5-gallon bucket) and Part B hardener ( 1 1-gallon can). TERRCO has modern models for terrazzo grinders. The one used in this video is an older version. Once epoxy terrazzo is poured, it will cure before the grinding process. This takes approximately 24 hours. Grinder is pushed along a path 4-5 times. Edges can be ground using an edge grinder along places like walls, columns or other areas where a machine cannot reach.

Thanks for your interest. Currently we've suspended our training courses to flooring contractors since the pandemic. However, you may be able to find some training opportunities through the National Terrazzo and Mosaic Association (NTMA). There are also apprenticeship programs as well with the Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers.

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION FOR TERRAZZO Course Objectives and Description: Demonstrate knowledge and skills in substrate preparation by visually inspecting the substrate, explaining or performing substrate cleaning, installing anti-fracture materials, patching defects, installing expansion and control joints, preparing a sound surface, and explaining the installations of waterproofing membranes. Hours: 30 Due to the current events, we have paused training classes for flooring contractors for the time being.

For epoxy terrazzo installations, tools and equipment is cleaned using isopropyl alcohol or mineral spirits before epoxy begins to harden.

Starlite....where you do Terrazzo at? Back in the 80s? Lots of cement Terrazzo back then ........seed it (broadcast) and roll it...big ol oak handles... Did I tell you about the time I believed in alien abduction for a few moments... We were rolling some sidewalk in Glendale CA me and my buddy...we just got of break and got back to rolling...in So. California it gets warm so cement goes off fast... anyway...we just started rolling again and I heard that big oak handle drop...so just out of curiosity I turned around to see why he dropped his handle....AND HE WAS GONE! What an errie feeling swept over me ...so I creep over there and he stepped in one of those water meter hollows..all's I could see was the top of his head about six inches under finish floor height!.... Had to yank his skinny ass outta there by the top of his hair...good thing he wasn't Bald!

I NEED YOU TO GO DOWN AND INSTALL THAT THRESHOLD TO THE COMPUTER ROOM RIGHT NOW!" ... The fire Marshall is coming tommorow and we're doing a smoke check on the building. Lanny stands up squares off on him folds his arms and says really cool ....No! I don't like the way your talking to me! You could hear a pin drop. The project manager starts to boil turns red as a Corvette and leaps up in the air and did his Scooby Doo.... bah! and went four different directions at once in a suit! I couldn't believe it.... anyway the project manager storms away...going to call the our office ....Lanny turns to me and says ...go put that in Eric! That's the first piece of Terrazzo I ever did....came out like shit! Too rich! Not enough marble....

This video demonstrates installing a epoxy terrazzo floor. To answer your question about the ratio of cement and terrazzo chips, then cementitious terrazzo is traditionally a mixture of 2:1 ratio of marble aggregate to a cement binder

Poured in Place Epoxy Terrazzo: It's a 5:1 ratio of Part A Epoxy Resin to Part B Hardener, add 180 pounds of specified aggregates (marble, glass, shell chips) and 50-pound of AFT-20 filler powder. These ingredients are mixed together thoroughly, and placed over a subfloor, troweled at either 1/4" or 3/8" thickness. Hope that helps!

@@desigerz7364 For epoxy terrazzo, for one volume of epoxy resin, there will be 3 volume of marble aggregates. Epoxy resin is mixed per the manufacturer's recommendations. Our TERRAZZCO epoxy resin comes is packaged in a Part A resin at 5 gallon pails or 55 gallon drums, and Part B in one gallon cans or 5 gallon pails. (By volume, 5 parts of Part A resin is mixed with 1 part part B hardener). Coverage per mixed gallon for 3/8" thickness is 9-10 square ft and coverage per mixed gallon for 1/4" thciness is 11-12 sq ft. A terrazzo floor has minimum 70% chip density.

Because there are several different terrazzo systems, to become proficient in terrazzo one would need to get on-the-job training or apprenticeships. Apprenticeships can span 2-4 years and require many hours of training.
