Add another case here. Got in Flytanium copper scales for a Delica. Everything went on smoothly; just as it should. Then I noticed the rattle; same three back screws. No rattle on the main pivot or the lockbar, but that one's under considerable tension so I don't think that'd rattle anyway. Very annoying to have an issue like this, especially when it seems like such a common thing.

Weird you had so much issue, I just installed the brass scales and it all went well other than I missed the small piece that goes in the backspacer so had to fit it twice. Mine is a touch stiff too, will probably need some break in but worth it, the scales are really good on this.

Yeah I actually reached out to Flytanium, they said not every set of scales has this problem, but some do. Very weird

Flytanium makes nice stonewashed scales for the Manix, btw, and they work great with the upgraded ball cage.

I made the same mistake with the lock bar when I modded mine, trying to place it under spring tension before putting the other liner and scale on. The backspacer flexed, and wouldn't fit into the hole in the liner. Way easier to put the put it together without the lock bar, then push the lock bar in last and screw it down.

I love it! It’s broken in pretty nicely but it’s still not as smooth as my other Spyderco lockbacks for some reason. But it doesn’t really bother me, I really like it

Agree, a true nightmare. Got the copper and titinium scales and had a fight with both of them. Endresult is beautifull but you have to suffer to get there 😵💫

😂 it’s a nightmare!! But only because of these scales. Although even if you are just taking it apart to clean it, getting that spring back in is a bitch!!

I don’t think so. It’s noticeably heavier with these scales but not heavy enough to be annoying to carry

Just had the same issue and fixed it by doing the method you did thumbs 👍🏽, did you grind down the pivot barrel also though like you did the other ones ?

I had to grind down the sides of the scales that the tang ride along with also a little bit, was grinding on the tang of the blade and causing shitty/gritty action, after I modified that it was smooth, I think it’s ridiculous the amount of money they charge for these titanium scales just to have to do multiple modification just to make them work.

Dood, open the knife and hold it it up to a light source, and see if it "leaks light" between the lockbar and the pivot.. 2 to 1 says yes unless you were extremely lucky and received a pair of scales that were properly milled.. But I think you figured this out by now.. Ditch Flytanium, get G10 scales from China.. My scales both in Titanium were hosed for both the Delica and Endura..

Hello Dood, planning to get these as well for my exact delica. Can you still use those screws with the stock scales after grinding them? Did the action break in with yours already?

Yep, after grinding them down a little it works perfectly. And yes, it breaks in, but it’s a back lock so it’s never like butter smooth. Absolutely love it though, one of my favorites

Hey Dood!! I just recently got the new flytanium scales for my delica and they are amazing! I didn’t have any of the issues you had with my scales. They fit perfectly and look amazing! I want to get one of those k390 wharnies and get another set of ti scales for it. Love the stonewash on the scales too Taping down the pins was a good idea lol you have no idea how many times I had them fall out while trying to reassemble it

Haha yeah those things kept slipping out and drove me crazy I reached out to Flytanium, they are aware of the issue. They said for some people it’s fine, for some they have this same issue. They can’t figure out why. 🤷🏻♂️

Looks tremendous! What oil are you using there? Most of the lubricant that comes in a syringe is overpriced imo. I like Rem oil so I was thinking of just getting a precision oiler and filling it up. Cool video!

I agree with you. These problems are not always big but every scale mod I’ve done has detrimentally affected the knife at least in some small way whether it be blade centering, action, blade play, etc.

No it was this one the titanium Delica scales from flytanium. I own Ti pm2 scales from them and love em

I’m having the same problem with mine. It looks like they designed the scales to countersink the body hardware too deep for it to actually clamp down. What a pain!

Yes exactly! I ended up grinding down those tubes so the screws had space to actually clamp down. I think I ground off around an 1/8” on all four of those tubes. Hope you get yours together! I love the scales, they’re just a pain to install

@@doodysdaggers haha, yeah they are . Has to be done in precise order . Did you get that otf back together ? I had one where the springs would stay stretched , kept jumping off track instead of sitting there nicely but finally was able to sandwich it in , lol . The problems I had with crossbar locks was the omega spring kept jumping out of place on the liner and it’s a pain to get the liner to stay flat sometimes but I think I got it figured out now . I wanted to tell you there’s a lot of welding jobs in Ohio and Lordstown Ohio General Motors just opened a new battery plant and it might be worth looking into . They do a hair test

I just got a set of these same flytanium scales but they're laser engraved from DNA Lasering and I'm having the exact same problem with the screws bottoming out! After paying $180 for the scales and a backspacer I'd expect them to fucking fit! I'm so pissed i dont even know what to do! Im tempted to send the fucking junk back 🤦♂️🤬🤬

Oh wow interesting! Guess it’s not just a Flytanium issue. Well here’s the fix: grind down those posts about an 1/8”. Then it’ll work without bottoming out. You can use an angle grinder, belt sander, or just a hand file
