If you have a 3D printer or want to build one, Marlin is likely the best place to start, and with Visual Micro you can build your own custom firmware easily. More information and Links below....
Marlin is used in a wide variety of 3D printers as it supports a multitude of extruders, motor setups, bed sizes, motion types, and so much more, all backed by the open source community!
Using the Marlin Firmware in Visual Micro you can work with a large scale project easily, with its intellisense, and quick code navigation features, as well as additional Serial and Hardware debugging tools if you do run into trouble....
All details shown in this video are on the Marlin Overview page below, along with the wiring diagrams presented.

Great video. Thanks. For tinkerers/developers, it is perhaps worth mentioning that using source control locally (i.e. git), in conjunction with this, is a good way to manage printer ‘firmware’ configurations in Marlin. This can be useful for experimentation as well as managing firmware for different printers that may all use Marlin.

Thank you for the great video. I have a question, can I install marlin to any mainboard. Because I have one printer but I don't know what kind of firmware in it and I made similar printer but I used different motors, so I am going to install marlin to my new printer with my old printer's mainboard

If your main board is one of the compatible boards then yes (or based on the same processor etc...). marlinfw.org/docs/hardware/boards.html You can check what you are running with the M115 command normally which may reveal more information.

Yes you can develop your own firmware for your printer using this software, or extend / modify existing software such as Marlin in C / C++ / INO, as well as use the Serial Debugger for easy troubleshooting in development.

@@lolman2003 That often takes some research to find, and gcode commands can be sent to your printer without modification to understand the firmware version (marlinfw.org/docs/gcode/M115.html) and configuration which is on there already. The more popular the printer... the easier it should be to find a guide to build from the Marlin Source to your device...

@@visualmicro4389 my mainboard is not for programming... so the layout of the pins are nowhere... the alternative would be a marlin configuration, but i didnt find one... i have to modify my firmware, because i cant print anything, because of a broken filament nfc reader... so i have to deactivate this reader, but the firmware is smart... when i had just the marlin firmware on it, the printer wouldnt be blocked by this nfc reader...

Still in the dark, none the wiser, so a complete waste of time on all counts. 1. How does the story end about the SD Card? Do I need it? Why do I need to wire it up when it is on my card already? 2. How do get around the bootloader issue? There was an incoherent mumble about it, that's all. 3. Why would I use the paid-for, suspiciously-named "Visual Micro" à-la-Chinese rip-off style, when I have "Visual Code" with PlatformIO that runs on all 3 major end-user platforms?
