Here's how I installed metal driveway gates with my Dad to brick pillars with masonry screws at their bungalow project back in 2019.

Great Job! Looks good, a nice improvement. Very smart to check the clearance of the opened gate first. I've done things like this and have forgotten to do this! Oops!

Concrete screws/framing screws are the best thing ever made for masonry fixing. Solid.

Great video & handy for people out there who want to give this sort of job a go... when it comes to making the adjustments to the bolts on the pintels - instead of putting bolts through the pintels to prevent them from being lifted you could of also used split pins/clevis pins that would of used a smaller hole in diameter & wouldn't corrode as easily as the bolts... Something I've learnt over the years 😀👍🏻

Nice job overall and good to see videos back on the channel! Looks at 2:43 you need to put some packing out, could use washers, on the bottom screw of the hinge piece between the metal and the brick as the brick work isn't flat. Worth looking at getting some air wedges, they have so many uses and are ideal for a job like this where you need to level up things and require micro adjustments. Also I would really look at investing in a laser. They are relatively cheap these days. Watch some videos first though so you make sure you get one with all the features you think you might need.

I concreted pieces of iron pipe into the ground embedded into the brick as a solution for the drop bolts. if you find that the pavers move to much and you plan to grout them in, that might be a good solution as the movement of the gate will probably keep loosening the pavers over time.

Hi Normally when you have gates like those you were installing the hinge part comes in two pieces with two screw holes on each, the bottom pair are facing up and the top two face down. Then when they are drilled in you can’t get the gates off

A small point .... if you drill the top screw first gravity will hold the rest in position. More accurate than a level, but if you wanted it to get really technical you can make it self closing (or opening) by having a slight "lean" to the hinge bracket! Gates that size are heavy though and while one man can, two can do it better!

A 3 way green beam 360 degree would have helped line up the 2 gates and hinge brackets inline and square to the brick pillars!

NIce film. I'm surprised you don't own an angle grinder yet. Would have saved a hell of a lot of hack-sawing and will help you in future jobs. Aldi sell them cheaply from time to time. I liked those adjustable eyelets you were using, going to get some for my old (non adjustable) gates to make up for wonky pillars. Are people nicking gates around your way? What next? Makes a change from nicking spaniels I suppose. Time to move to a better part of the 'hood! Best wishes for 2021.

Thanks! Yes, I have two actually lol. We just never seem to have the right tools for the job when we're away from home. If I'd have known we were hanging gates that day, I would have brought them :) And not sure if they do get stolen in that area. I suppose better safe than sorry.

I don't know if people normally do for certain heights or whether you've never had one before. But I assume not in our case as the building control officer took the old one to use on one of his own properties and knew about these ones.

@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK oh ok I've just never seen a bungalow with stairs before also the safety rail needs a update as it doesn't meet regulations because you shouldn't be able to fit a ball more than 100 mm through the gap that will be a good video if you do it unless you get a chippy in keep up the good work and stay safe
