Went to "quickly" install a 4" riser block on my bridgeport clone milling machine. Didnt go as planned. Nothing ever does it seems.

L You are absolutely normal. Any project we start will go south on you fast. It's how you recover from it that counts. Two things i would like to add to my mill. A riser block and air drive chucking tool. Maybe someday.

If my mills were any taller and if I had to change tooling more often I'd probably get (make) the air driver deal as well. I am looking forward to having a dro on the mill! Just not to excited about mounting it all.

Good to see it working. Im guessing some of the clone mills were machined to different dimension. Good fix on the spider.

Thank you so much for the riser Mike! I'm just glad it wasn't a real lot different. I measured my lathe to 14.75" but I might have been able to squeeze it in somehow. The spider turned out to be a lot easier than I thought!

Sketchiest part of that was taking the hoist off the turret before it was bolted in. I was just removing the head on mine to try and make it easier to move(didn't really help) and shifted it too much, even with the engine hoist attached, and dropped it on the table. Fortunately it was more of a controlled slide, and I stopped it from going further. Now I've got a lifting eye that screws in for lifting the turret rather than just straps. Anyways, I was just waiting for it to drop while you removed the hoist. Also, did you consider trying to freeze it and put it in? Might be too big for a freezer though.

I was quite worried when I removed the hoist! I did however set in the spider facing the wrong way so i had to pivot the turret to line it up. Not a great idea I admit. When mentioning the parts being the same temp the thought of freezing the riser did cross my mind. However everything being cast I didn't want to put any stresses on anything possibly causing a crack or worse.

You wouldn't believe the type of shit that i "grind" off. I don't even have a lathe. ... you can tell by the way it is 😂

Haha! Whatever gets it done! No one knows if you don't make a video of it.

It sure would have looked better if sanded and painted before install.

I do agree! I figured I could do that another time if it bothers me. This was kind of a spur of the moment deal where I had a day for myself and just wanted to get it installed.

Put the mill up on some 6” x 6”?

I always forget about that option! Great suggestion thank you! I'll see how it is now and if I want it higher yet I'll block it up.
