Nice to have been working underneath the shelter, I was switching rail cars for 8hrs in that mess. Would of been glad to lay on the drill for you. Thankfully it came and went quickly.

Had to do this back in june for my cousin. We used a skid steer to pry the old off. Then used a grinder to cut the screws off. I feel your pain its a big job. If you need some more screws i have a bunch lol.

im decking some now. i welded some casters to a 1/2 " plate ,then set my magbase drill on it to roll it around in position easily. it worked very well.
@johnpyle80274 жыл бұрын
I did that to one of my trailers years ago. It always cracks me up seeing people screw the new boards to the top and then shim it. I just stuck one end in and laid a 4x4 under the middle and it slid in. Granted I was using Doug Fir not Oak! This reminds me I need to replace another trailer floor.

Look at the end grain of the boards when laying deck boards. Have the grain curve up in the center of the board. That way the edges wont curl up on ya.

Coat the deck with used oil and it will help keep it from curling and it also will last longer. Did that for years and it works well!!😁
@jenniferwhite60895 жыл бұрын
We used old oil for the boards 2 to 3 times a years we use it, it's on how well boards get craped and damaged too we would recover them at the time they boards dry out the oil sook into th wood better too

@johnpyle80274 жыл бұрын
@@lidsman2221 Those boards will move soon and wear paint off the beam. If I were a betting man I would say he is going to use used oil to seal that wood. Once it soaks through it will be lubed forever.
@jonbeecroft49125 жыл бұрын
hey chris if you put some lube on the screws they will go in really good try dish washing liquid works well.. you could do with a bit more practice sledge hammer tho.
@davidhall48453 жыл бұрын
I never seen it done like that before. the purpose of the boards fitting in the ends is to not use screws 16' and under and one to two rolls of screws in the middle on longer trailers. this is so if you have to replace one board you don't have all the screws to deal with.

Lots of recipes for trailer deck treatments out there but here's another: 3 parts kerosene,1/2 part linseed oil and 1/2 part beeswax. Per gallon it is 3 quarts kerosene,1 pint linseed oil and 1 pint beeswax.But any light oil that will soak into the wood is good.

Thanks for the timely contact as I was wondering as the news said that NE of Greensboro was getting it. You are making good use of the time. Frost here in Central Vermont tonight and snow expected in the mountains by morning. Any roads or bridges washed out down your way ? I imagine some of your forestry clearings are muddy as all hell and full of ‘canyons’.

dip your drill bit in oil after you drill through the wood. then drill the hole through the metal. dip your screws in oil and they will go in way easier.

@toddreynolds88755 жыл бұрын
If you have the correct trailer fender washers for decking you shouldn't have to drill the steel. Much better system. Half the fender washer grabs the indside lip of the channel iron. Way better then drilling all the steel and dont rot the channel iron
@syclone735 жыл бұрын
well after reading your comment i now know exactly how you must fell everyday. i know that i have no idea what the hell you are talking about "fender washer" on an equipment trailer does not work. there is not an equipment trailer made by any company that does not attach the boards in the same way he has in the video. my original statement was only meant to instruct him on a way to make the job easier and more productive. "fender washer" do you wake up in a new world each day or what?
@toddreynolds88755 жыл бұрын
Lmao. Yes. 3/8" ,bolt drilled thru the deck boards on the edge of the channel with thick cupped fender washers that bite under the inside lip of the channel But. Im only imagining it in my pea sized brain. Maby ive duct tape over my eyes. Since ive only redecked the many 35 and 50 ton drop decks. And multiple 20 and 25 ton tag trailers ive owned. To haul my damm equipment all over kingdom come. A few years ago. Your cheaper trailor companies popping up all over the place started using the junk self tapping shit. That in return rot channel. And always braking. So i guess the worlds sheep. Follow on using the junk everywhere. And big difference if your i. A state using road salt. But hey im just a idiot
