Porsche made many changes to the oil pressure and safety valves.
Check out the TSB, Technical Service Bulletin, here.

Now the case is back together we can start adding on the bits. This short video covers installing the pressure relief valve and the safety valve. Last up we install the oil return line adapter into the case. The oil bypass mod was not done on this case as it is stock 1969 911 T.
Next up sump plate, then breather plate.

Thank you so much for this series! Rebuilding a 1986 3.2 Carerra engine along the same timeline, so super useful reference point.

Great video, all of them have been very helpful. I am curious about the plug. Are you suppose to use the original plug(flat head) for the safety valve side with the original length spring? The spring was only upgraded for the pressure side right...? So, only the pressure side needs the updated plug because of the updated spring.. Correct?.... What happens if you use the updated plug with the original length spring on the safety side? Many Thanks

You can use the new plug with the original spring on the safety valve as the plug depths are the same as the old original slotted head plugs used on the safety valve. Kurt

Hey Kurt, I'm a little confused are you saying all engines even the early 1967 - 1974 should now use the updated piston without the holes even if the case has not had the oil bypass mod?
@klassikats
@klassikats 3 жыл бұрын
Kav, Yes all engines should use the updated oil piston without holes in it. Porsche superseded the early oil pressure control pistons in 1976. The early oil pistons where prone to causing wear in the bore that could result in loss of oil pressure. They should always be discarded and replaced with the latest style piston.

I am a bit confused, are you saying that the old oil pistons with holes should be replaced with the later type even if the case does not have the oil by pass modification?

Yes, the piston with holes should be replaced. There is a TSB, tech service bulletin, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sJOfqteYp5qpY5c.html Thanks for watching, S

Where was this kit purchased from and what was it's p/n? The pelican parts kits (PEL-REBKT-OIL1N) doesn't seem to be correct since theirs uses the same hex plug on both. The TSB shows two different plugs with different recess depths (12 and 9 mm).

So we don't buy from pelican much, and usually, I don't buy kits. I order the parts individually to get exactly what I want. With that being said, the new oil pressure control and safety valve plugs all supersede to the same number and the same plug. That number is 999.064.026.01; now, you cannot use the new plug with the old spring for the oil pressure control valve. Because yes, you are right in that there used to be two different plug depths. However, now with the updated spring and guide assembly, both plugs are now the same. For the oil pressure controls, you need to use the following: 930.107.531.01 Spring 930.107.533.01 Guide The safety valve will still use the original spring number 901.107.531.01 Safety valve spring You can watch a detailed breakdown of the oil control springs and pistons in this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sJOfqteYp5qpY5c.html Kurt

@@klassikats Should i be using the 930 spring and guide on engine w/o the oil bypass mod? Engine is a 2.2 S one.

Hello Kurt I have a question to ask and it’s about the oil pressure system and when you’ve rebuilt your engine I have a 1974 911 with the magnesium case I have not yet dismantled the engine case to send it off for the modifications like the align boring or having time Certs done yet. My question is do the oil bypass modification and the pressure upgrades do I have to install one of the newer updated oil pumps and especially if I’m planning on installing a front oil cooler do I need to upgrade to a newer oil pump is my question. I really enjoy watching your videos on the Porsche 911 engines and have been learning a lot from you and your videos thank you Marion Fisk.

Marion, My answer would be yes to all your questions. I would do the oil bypass modification while the case is out and yes I would update to a new style oil pump. Upgrading to the newer pump will give you the volume you need to push through a newly installed front oil cooler system. By installing a newer pump you have to the oil bypass modification as the newer pumps will overwhelm the scavenge pump capabilities if bypassed oil is allowed to be pushed directly into the sump. Thanks for watching and I hope this helps Kurt

HI ! Why using copper washer in the first two valves and aluminum washer in the last connection ?
@klassikats
@klassikats 3 жыл бұрын
I used the washers supplied in the engine rebuild kit and in this particular kit they supplied copper for the pressure and safety valves and aluminum for the oil fitting. Both Copper and Aluminum washers are soft and are designed to conform to any irregularities in the sealing surfaces. Both types are a one time use and should be replaced after each use. Thanks for watching Kurt

You just have to shop around, you can look at Partsklassik, Pelican, ECS tuning, or Sunset Porsche. One of those guys should be able to get you set up with what you need. Kurt

Hi Kurt. can i undo the oil pressure nut to see if i have this old style valve. Do i need to drain the oil to check this. im guessing to do this. If i have the old style valve and are you saying to replace this valve with the updated valve to get better oil pressure? my engine is a 2.7 mag case. There is a large round nut on each left and right front side of the case. thanks for the insight.

Mike, Using the old style piston will result in bore wear and the possibility of the piston getting stuck. This is why we change them. This change will have no bearing on oil pressure, nor will doing the oil pressure spring update modification. Both of these modifications are to prevent wear and tear to the case. No you do not need to drain the oil to remove either the oil pressure control or the safety valve. Kurt
