I just had the exact same reaction on an exhaust manifold bolt the other day. Trying to restore a 1983 Honda GL1100 motorcycle 😅 emphasis on trying because one step forward... two steps back.

bummer could have been a head bolt snaped off below the deck that would really make your day no biggie take it out and put new studs in

That was an excellent way to end the video! Take that rod out, take it to westbay machine shop and show them and they will replace it for cheap. Just do the other torque sequences on the rest of the rods in case more break, and take the broken ones to get repaired.

I am going to replace all of them with arp studs if one went that easy there has to be more.

I’d say you need a better torque wrench, I’ve had a similar issue with one I had like that. In fact the same issue, if it’s a cheap one even more the reason to invest in something better.. good luck, it is an easy fix at least.

I agree definitely need a nicer one. But I am guilty of loving the clicker type for the satisfying noise. Gonna have to throw some money at that for the engine building I am going to be doing.

67-73lb is for 7/16 rod bolts. My bet is that you got 5/8 bolts with only require 50lb. Ask me how I know... Did the exact same thing some days ago (minus bolt snapping) and even bougth a new torque wrench to verify. Stretched the bolts to hell and back. No click in the torque wrench what so ever. I have to throw even more money in this 454 with new ARP rod-bolts now..

@@caseybaker5550 It is devastating I know.. Did you resize/hone the big end of the rods or just wing it with new bolts?
