When you are ready to install a solid state drive inside your dell xps 8930 desktop, first decide if you are going to use Sata or NVMe; this will help you know which type of ssd drive to order for your #Computer upgrade.
Installing a sata ssd Drive inside the dell xps 8930 Desktop Computer was simple. Most Drives now are as simple as connect them and load the operating system on them like with the western digital blue 1tb ssd i installed.
Products I Recommended from #Amazon
- Computer amzn.to/478RGUn
- Networking amzn.to/41v70cu
- Organizer amzn.to/41xbsYm
- Printer amzn.to/3NCsONH
- Supplies amzn.to/3TvH9PG
- Alexa amzn.to/3RnJFVC

- Jetpack bit.ly/Hernand...
- Aweber bit.ly/Hernand...
- GoDaddy bit.ly/Hernand...
- Freelancer bit.ly/Hernand...
When installing a new solid state drive, you may choose to go with the same size and brand type drive if you like; I recommend though that you take this opportunity to upgrade your drive to western digital instead of using your existing drive brand if is not wd.
Your Dell XPS 8930 desktop supports both NVMe and Sata type Drives which is an advantage when upgrading your computer using both connections with a solid state drive each like I did. I would recommend using NVMe type Hard Drive instead of Sata first and leaving other drive bay areas for more upgrades later.
Purchase a Computer Service at hernandezlinks...
On the Dell XPS 8930 Desktop Computer, you have the option to go with NVMe or sata and whichever option you prefer is up to you; know that the power supply must connect to a sata type drive whereas NVMe ssd type drives do not.
I recommend you choose a western digital type of solid state drive, in particular the blue brand which are designed for stability; these are your best hard drives to consider if you are using a sata like connection.
When wanting to install a new NVMe drive with speed in mind, you may then want to consider using a black solid state drive instead; these are designed to be the for performance.
Next time you are needing to repair your desktop computer due to not booting up, simply installing a new hard drive and operating system on it does the repairs; at that time though I recommend a 1TB ssd drive instead of a mechanical drive.

@@insainperson6018 hi. you need to enter the bios and go to boot sequence. then select the new drive to be the second one. move your current first to third. and then make your usb or dvd as your first.. at this point you can save and restart. this will alllow it to first boot your windows disc and install os. the rest happens on its own

Thank you so much , my 8930 when powered up the original psu fan does not Speen , will you be kind to let me know what you think: If there may be a fault or if it is a characteristic of the power supply on the xps 8930 model.Mille grazie
@HernandezMasterMind
@HernandezMasterMind Жыл бұрын
Hey there. Good question. Rule of thumb by design, the power supply should run at all times. However with newer power supply modes operating at a 'need basis' to help lower power usage could be the reason is not running at first because is not required at the moment when 'normal cooling' after a while when hardware heats up 'it automatically spins' to keep it cool. To confirm if this behavior is part of your 8930 is to know is the pc new? Few months old? Then is normal. If the pc is older and it never did this then could be a clogged fan motor. Follow up from you?

@HernandezMasterMind
@HernandezMasterMind 2 жыл бұрын
hi. i do not have this pc any more. sold it. the configuration is straight forward. remove existing ssd from m.2 and install a new one. i added recommended products on video description. then install windows on it. follow installation wizard. if you rather keep the original drive it came with and install a new one let say as the sata 2.5 ssd option and make that the master then what you want to do is during windows installation wizard to select the second drive for os not the primary drive. it normally is labeled as such based on size and usage. for example when you are inside windows wizard the old original drive shows data used. space left. where as the new one is not formatted and has no data used. this will help you know which to choose for install as primary. my recommendation is first option. remove old. install new. then run windows. Checkout a video i did where i install windows 11. skip the upgrade step and go straight into the windows wizard so you can see the option where you choose the drive. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nK6BhbiAx9yRnnk.html please subscribe for future support and more videos

Thank you for the detailed breakdown. I'm not a computer whiz but your video made everything simple. One question for you, i have dell XPS 8930 and i'm thinking of upgrading to the new RTX 3080 and also getting a new power supply with 850 watts, my current card is RTX 2060. 3080 is longer and people pointed out that the top side exhaust fan will be obstructed by the swing out psu. It's a very compact case and i'm concerned about air circulation. Would it be too risky putting 3080 in this case and if i don't replace the fan will it over heat?
@HernandezMasterMind
@HernandezMasterMind 4 жыл бұрын
glad you found the video helpful. please subscribe to the channel and like the video. To respond to your concern I for sure recommend a power supply upgrade of at least 500w to handle system and video card. I do not see the requirement for additional cooling fans on the case as the card offers its own cooling. the only question you need to ask is what is the length of the case and then compare that with the card you plan to install. Regardless if is compact like design you will be fine because there is enough cooling already with the case to allow for cooling and balanced air flow.

Hey Don I’m planning the same upgrade into my dell 8930. I have a 1070 and an 8700 non k cpu. I’ve done heaps of research into this. I’m going to add 1 or 2 120mm fans A gainward 3080 or a similar length and height card. The gainward is 29.7cm so it’ll just fit. It’s also short enough to fit under the PSU swing arm. You need a 750w PSU minimum. You should get a modular one so you don’t have extra cords to store inside the case. I wouldn’t suggest an over clocked card as it’ll be too hot in the case. I’ve got the 92mm case fan which I’m replacing with a 120mm, it’ll require drilling some holes in the top where the round outflow is near the cpu. I’m going to move the HDD to the bottom of the case where the drive cages are there. Then I’m adding a second 120mm fan where the HDD was. You can use zip ties to hold fans in place if need be. The last part might be adding an intake fan onto the grill of the side that opens. I’m not sure about this as it will make accessing the inside difficult. I’m thinking this might be the really important fan as it’ll bring cool air into the case from outside. I’m also considering a new cpu cooler fan but I think I’ll wait and see how the rest goes first. If you want to take full advantage of a 3000 series card then an extra ssd is a must I’m going with the mx500 2tb which I’ll put next to the hdd down the bottom. This the third XPS I’ve had and the absolute worst in terms of upgrade ability. The last one with a q6600 lasted almost 10 years of gaming with only a GPU upgrade every couple of years and some ram as well. There’s some really great guides on the dell forums with pictures of flow upgrades some people have done on this case. www.dell.com/community/XPS-Desktops/XPS-8930-SE-Exhaust-Fan-and-PSU-Upgrade/td-p/7311865 This one is particularly good. Cheers let me know what you do as I’m interested to see how others handle a 3080/3070 in this case.

Ideally once I set the SSD as a boot drive, I would have to figure out how to use that SSD to run my games that need the SSD's power. I am thinking of using a program called Acronis Any help? @@7khon731 hi. Good question. Alright so now that both drives are connected and showing on the bios you need to do the following. Load windows installation wizard and once you get to the selection of a drive you need to know which drive is the ssd and which is the hdd. For example look on the board at the sata connection and see which is 0 and which is 1. If both drives have the same size knowing this is important to know which to pick as the windows ssd like drive. When you know then select it as a new partition and load windows on it. You don't need to go through bios on this. Only through windows installation wizard.

@@7khon731 hi. the steps are simple so let me rephrase. step 1: go into bios and set the ssd drive as boot onein the sequence and hdd as your second boot. save and exit. Step 2: load windows installation and when you get to the drive step of the wizarrd select the ssd as your primary drive for windows. leave the and continue install. Step 3: once windows is up, go to control panel and open administrative tools and then disk management. there choose disks and give the second drive a letter you prefer. you may need to choose it and format it first then assign the letter.
