This chassis upgrade is a must. This replacement support brace is what should have come from the factory in place of those simpler cowl braces.

I didn’t remove my shocks. I was also able to get one side of the brace on and then used the firewall holes to lever the other side on. Then I did the firewall bolts. I need to go back and do the firewall support like you did. As always a very informative vide even if you said something about hogging the holes out. “Fit the car to the brace not the brace to the car.”

Yeah, I've had a few people ask about the shock removal. It was mostly out of convenience as those shock tower cap bolts (the carriage bolts) don't always cooperate, so having those shocks out of the way makes it easier to tighten them down when it came time. You can see me holding them in the video when I was putting the caps back on. :)

Yo have to be the luckiest Mustang owner alive. That was the easiest export brace install I have ever seen. I tried to put one on my 1966 but its way off. I have to rent a power jack to spread the shock towers to get mine in. But part of the fun of owning a classic mustang. Keep up the good work on these videos they help a lot :)

It seems I've been getting luckier with each car. My first Classic Mustang I completely struggled with the brace. A little easier with the second car. And this car was the easiest. Maybe I've earned it? :)

Nice job best upgrades I've done on my 66 coupe too difference in handling and body roll was surprising and made the car a lot more enjoyable to drive. I Love the chanel I'd love to see someone like Holly support you and maybe toss a sniper efi system your way I've been thinking about it especially with gas prices.

Thanks! I really wanted to go with Holley this time (Edelbrock on my last two Mustangs), but I came across a really good deal on this Edelbrock carb, so I snatched it up. Doing an EFI system is on my list, but it's much lower than I'd like, there are just too many other parts I want to replace/upgrade first. :)

Great content Andy What size piece of wood did u use on the floor Jack? 2x6? What did you use to carve the wood out I want to duplicate for mine Thanks
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel Жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's a 2x4. I clamped two of them together, centered the drill bit for a large hole saw (like 1" or 1-1/4") between the two pieces of wood and drill through them. When you unclamp them you have that half moon shape drilled out of each piece (this essentially makes two of these pieces of wood that you're asking about) and it cradles that crossmember piece nicely when jacking up the car. I have since cut that piece shorter so I don't risk it hitting the steering linkage which it almost does in the video. :)

Yes, between the Monte Carlo bar and the export brace, it's a big improvement in stiffening up the front end. Curious...why did you remove the shocks?
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Mostly for convenience of them not being in the way, but I could have just disconnected the top of the shock from the tower caps and then removed the caps. While it was few extra steps, it made it easier (for my car) to have those shocks out of the way when I was tightening down the nuts on those tower caps. The 3 carriage bolts in that spot don't always cooperate with the slot they sit in and sometimes I have to hold them in place as I tighten down the nuts (you can see me do that in the video). :)

Awesome Hey Andy where did you jackit up to let it settle overnight...crossmember or mounts? Cheers great video
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 2 жыл бұрын
I put the jack stands under the motor mounts as this can allow the fender to "fall away" and sometimes create the extra 1/2" or so that can be needed to make the Export brace fit. It's no guarantee, but I have been able to put an Export brace on the three classic Mustangs I've owned. :)

I’m about to add this to my car but I have a question about when you jack the car up and letting it settle. Do you think it will mess up the alignment of the car? I need my shock towers to go out about the same distance as yours.
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 2 жыл бұрын
No, I don't think it will mess up your alignment because of the relative small amount of flex you're requesting from the car while its on the jackstands. If you find that you did not get the car to flex enough for the Export brace to fit, you can also look into loosening the bolts on the core support at the front. This may let those fenders flare out a pinch more to get that brace to fit. :)

@@cskipper65 At the time I purchased these wheels, I could not get 3.75" backspacing, which is what I wanted. If I was given a chance to do it all over again, I'd got with 15x7 wheels (same style) with the 3.75" backspacing and 225/60 or 235/60 tires. Can both braces be used at same time?
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely! I'd say you can't have too much bracing, but it would reach a point of not being practical as all the bracing would be in the way. For a supple, compliant ride, I'd limit the amount of braces, stiffer springs, and larger sway bars to more stock settings, but I'd like this car to do a little carving, so I'm going after a stiffer chassis and suspension. Not quite race track level, but definitely stiffer. :)
