Jose. You mentioned that you used KiwiGrip on the floor and wasn't happy with the results. I used the Soft Sand rubber particles and was very pleased with the results. I would, however, recommend using the 'fine' grade. Before doing mine, I researched and one person on KZfaq used the coarse and said it was very difficult to clean. I've had no problem cleaning mine. Instructions describe 2 options: 1) - mix in the paint and apply; 2) - apply a coat of wet paint, sprinkle liberally, remove access then add another coat of paint on top. I chose the 2nd option and was very pleased.

If I decide to redo the floor I think that is the route I will go. Perhaps mixing in fine rubber sand with Kiwi grip might give me decent results

Jose! That interior looks great! You did a good job on it. As I mentioned in an email, I may work on a console later this fall. Looking at your installation I didn't quite think ahead and made both seat clamps the same. I may have to think this out a little more when I get ready to build. On the gripping material I decided not to put it on the floor, but I did put some at the front of the boat at the rail ledge and around the storage compartment, mainly because I always get in/out of my boat from the front. I used the Soft Sand and it worked out really well.

Thanks! I'm really happy with the way the console came out. On the tail end of getting it all wired up. I can only take credit for the finish, Bob Latourelle in MA did the woodwork!

Coming along sweet bro. I just got delayed further in mine. We have been getting nasty storms coming our way and I don’t want to be outside fiddling with the boat in a storm. Good job on yours man

I'm currrently restoring a 13" whaler and your videos have been very helpful. Couple of questions: 1) Have you noticed having the gas tank and battery at the stern, does the added weight create a problem getting on plane or porpoising? 2) How did you measure where to place the seats? Thanks
@ExtremeDIYGuy
@ExtremeDIYGuy 4 ай бұрын
I did not notice and negative effects from mount the battery and fuel in the back. Was probably offset by having a 40 that was set back a few inches though. I checked the specs on teh original seat placement and moved the whole setup a few inches forward. I think I found the info on continous wave or Whaler central

Jose. Great videos as usual. I noticed in your varnishing video the console was already assembled. Did you do the assembly or was it so straightforward that a video wasn't needed?

Good work, looks great! My baby Whaler is stripped down and ready for top paint but for now its at a Yamaha shop for service on the 40 horse. To hold down weight I purchased a 40th Anniversary interior kit without the seatback and storage unit though it has the same bigger console. Am looking at installing the rear bench on top of the side clamps - another 4" of height would be nice and it would create a good space for the gas tank - but then again I may install in the standard manner and put in a couple of Millenium seats on short pedistrals. Not sure I'll use the front bench been wondering about use as a rear casting platform? And I want to push the rear bench seat forward 4" to 6" and maybe put the battery under the console. Don't tell my wife this but I'm looking at about $3K for my refit.

Sounds great! I thought about using the 40th anniversary setup but went with the Super Sport instead. I actually pushed the whole thing out about 4 inches from norm to help accommodate the storage. All in all I'm happy with the way it's turning out. Is 3K with the engine work as well?

@@ExtremeDIYGuy I'm toward the end of the spending and am looking at $3,000 for the boat and motor assuming $750 for the motor service (should know next week fingers crossed). But I conveniently overlooked at least $800 on new trailer components including jack, winch, springs, hubs/bearings, tires, lights, u-bolts and hardware. And there is another $200 gone on an orbital sander, grinder, heat gun. You are in a different league when it comes to hull work - and it shows - while I'm more quick and dirty - and it shows. I'm not much of a perfectionist and boat in a giant maze of oyster bars so have spent less on epoxy/figerglass/5
@ExtremeDIYGuy
@ExtremeDIYGuy 4 жыл бұрын
@@charlesgauthier5541 So far I'm into it for about 5200 including the boat and a different motor. If I sell the old one for about 1k I'll be into it for roughly $4200 total.

Hi I have I question I’m trying to install the interior in my whaler but I don’t know where to screw the side boards, is there any measurements, or how can I know where the put the side boards ( it’s my first boat and I don’t know much thanks In advance)
@ExtremeDIYGuy
@ExtremeDIYGuy 2 жыл бұрын
I basically evenly spaced the screws to where they would be accessible once the seats were in place. I I used four screws, one on the front and another in the back of the side clamp (about 3-4 inches from the ends and two in the middle where I could access them, one just behind the console and another just forward of the bench. Sorry I don't have exact measurements!

Why’d you decide to do that to the floor vs leaving it blue how you had it? (curious because I’m trying to decide what to do with my whalers floor)
@ExtremeDIYGuy
@ExtremeDIYGuy 4 жыл бұрын
There was a lot of small missing pieces of gelcoat in the diamond patter. I never really addressed that and hoped the KiwiGrip would be thick enough to cover them. They didn't. If I were doing it again, I would sand the diamond pattern way down and not thin the Kiwi Grip at all which probably would have worked better. Besides, I think the contrast looks pretty nice :D
@MotoDUDEabides

Jose's Extreme DIY nice! My whalers floor is full of crazing. Why did you choose kiwi over tuff coat or durabak? I dig the contrast too. I’d def like to see your video experience!
