There are so many options when it comes to exhausts. We have been spoiled and now this ‪@aFePower1‬ is just something else. I have seen this online a lot but there are literally no videos for it anywhere. My buddy Xavier decided to change that by picking one up from ‪@felixperformance948‬. The VB WRX is just so spoiled when it comes to exhaust options and this is a pretty damn good one.

Reminds me of how the 11th Gen Civic Si exhaust design is. The reason Honda did it like that was the loop acts as a muffler, so they're able to use a smaller muffler and get the benefits of the increased airflow.

That's a really interesting looking exhaust! It definitely gave it a more throaty sound. And it didn't look overly complicated to get on the car. Thanks for the great video!! Something else I gotta start looking into now!

Yes it was easy except we broke both the bolts holding the catback to the jpipe . I would suggest buying replacements before hand, or at least upgraded bolts.

Also, I had no issues with those nuts or bolts but those darn clamps. I gotta get under and tighten them down with some gasket maker.

Any drone at all? Is cold start louder than stock?

@futzsavant7381 barely noticeable drone. Cold start is much louder compared to stock but not like an obnoxious ear piercing loud. Sounds amazing in-cab too, especially being that wrx's are prone to road noise so u can hear the exhaust nicely. Very deep and grumbly. While driving, I'd say the music on 8-10 pretty much drowns it out (if u have the Harmon Kardon speaker). Idk the equivalent without the sound upgrade

I sheared one of those bolts too, though it was the fourth time the pipe was removed (I have to swap my system each time the car goes in for a service, Japanese BS law).

Those are locking nuts you need to heat them with a torch they are designed to lock tight and not loosen

They got inspiration from the 2022 civic si. The stock exhaust has this twin loop design from factory to reduce drone. When AFE took my car in for R&D they probably saw that since they kept the same design for their aftermarket exhaust when they gave me my car back. They had a 2022 WRX coming in when I picked up my car so they probably implemented the same design for it as you see here.

Yea stock tune with axleback (usually small or no mufflers) sounds like that. Mine did!

Off the wall question, do you know if there’s any physical differences between the 22+ WRX 2.4 and the 2.4 found in Subarus other platforms like the ascent?

Xavier and I we're talking. The swirls are acting kind of like mufflers. They force the air to behave differently maybe? Idk haha

I'd be interested to hear what it sounds like at normal takeoff/pull away. My Cobb catback actually sounds the closest I've heard to uel at lower rpms and from the clips here this sounds similar. Watch Cobbs video at the end when they pull away, that almost uel rumble sounds even better and more uel in person.

Tbh no exhaust will sound like UEL. I have heard a LOT of them in person. I just don't know if it's possible to create an unequal flow if you start out with an equal flow. Felix Poeformance 600hp car runs the Cobb setup and it's very nice but definitely no where close to UEL. Same with the titanium. There is a rumble with all exhausts on the Fa24 no doubt and it had a deeper tone compared to the fa20 (i imagine becusee of the displacement?). I have external mic footage of all these exhausts.

Oh for sure. I mean even with axlebacks/mufflers that have unequal lengths I doubt it'll be a significant difference since the gasses were already combined after the el header.

I was looking at AWE's exhaust, but now this might be the exhaust I get. I kinda like it and how the tips stick out. Not much drone on the highway though?

On regular highway it sounds like there is some drone, manageable and doable, but it is there slightly. It seems a little weird as well, it might be my ears , but it seems like one needs to play with the Rev range to be able to find a good "frequency", driving at highway speeds below 2K RPM it sounds more droney, then 2K-2.6K, sounds great and chill and low volume, 2.6-3.2K gets a little droney again somehow, and after 3.2K it's better with drone again and has volume.

Funny I broke the exact same bolt doing mid pipe. But I have a ETS axle back and added the mid pipe 6 months later……the ETS hardware was so cheap and badly rusted it was 1/2 the original thickness. Was not impressed lol

if you put the curly side on one side, and a remark muffler delete able back on the other side, would the unequal mufflers give some sort of rumble? 🤔

Maybe slightly but not as much as a true uel header as the gasses are already combined from the el header.

Broken/sezed bolt is a pain. Thats why fasteners need to be assembled with anti seize. Promote that habit I would suggest. Now lets hear the new exhaust!

I have a j pipe and you don’t really hear the turbo through the exhaust sadly. The Va was a much louder turbo noise.

For me I always heard the most noise through the intake regardless of if it was my VA or VB. I've never noticed any increase in actual turbo sound through the exhausts.

Tbh it's pretty minimal but it is there at cruising around 2500-3k rpm. Idk if it soossibke to fully eliminate drone when removing mufflers. Possibly by having a resonator in the jpipe?

I really like that exhaust…. I’ve been leaning to the STI axel back. But my car is to quiet. I have to turn down my music so I can start off an intersection. You know what I mean!!!! Nice!!!

Learn how to drive. I have an aftermarket alpine 5 channel amp, focal speakers and Kicker Comp R 12” sub at near full volume at all times and never had to turn down the volume to start on my 23 Limited Ignition Red six speed WRX

It depends on the catback you buy though. Most of the buust mount to the donut gasket that's on the OEM jpipe. Jus be careful with the OEM bolts!!
