I must warn you before installing the shunt... You will not have any free time left because you will spend it watching the app all day lol. Shunt (affiliate link): signaturesolar.com/victron-energy-smartshunt-500a-50mv/?ref=natesdiy Visit my website for more DIY projects: www.natesdiysolar.com

nice info... great delivery... watching your little videos gives so much knowledge on specific things your channel is great I think if you did a breakdown on every product you have in your system people would learn it better than one massive flood of info that people usually put out.. great video and thanks.

Thanks. I actually did a series on my system. 6 videos with each video showing each step in the process. It's the ones with the blue stripe. In these videos, I talk about each product as I go. There is a playlist called 48v solar system.

@@natesdiysolargreat to know.. ill keep my eyes open one your channel ..looking at the direct solar input to water at present. I think to get this done is a game changer. I just ordered your custom buck converter. Im going to try in with 2 pieces 540 watt panels and see what i get out of it. I have 12 volt water element .. thinking of grabbing an old sauna hear element and seeing what i get without the converter and looking if I can get results with combo 12 volt elements or maybe a sand battery.. ill keep you informed..keep going ..love your work.

@byronsowntime thanks. Love to hear what ppl are doing. FYI. That buck converter will only be able to use about 300w of power from those panels. Whatever the output of the converter is in terms of watts is what you can hook up to it solar panel wise. You would need a larger converter. They do have solar water pumps that take solar input directly, but you should be able to run a small 12v pump from that converter.

Remember to remove your jewelry when working with any voltage. Also was wondering why you did not do the connection in reverse. Meaning connect the battery to the shunt and then the inverters to the busbars.

The battery was disconnected. I connected the battery last. Because I'm going to add fuses to the busbar later. If you mean put the shunt before the busbar. I will be adding more batteries and don't want many connections on the shunt battery side.

So the smart shunt starts off at 100 percent and goes down 99,98,97.... Does it also show it going back up 56,57,58,59? Or does it just reset once the battery is charged again?
@natesdiysolar

Yes it's a bidirectional counter... charging makes it go up and discharging makes it go down. After the initial sync to 100% it won't sync again unless you tell it too.

@@natesdiysolar Thanks. I'm going to get one. :)

Everyone keeps saying it monitors power in too ? For that wouldn’t you need to have the negitive from the charge controller to the negitive lug on system side of the shunt ?

Yes that's correct.

I'm using an inverter charger all in one. That's why you may not have seen another cable.

Thanks for the reply 🙏 I’m putting in a system shortly and have this shunt I’ll be using. I was originally thinking charge controller to negitive battery post. But system side of shunt makes more sense and just wanted verification. Thank you

@@MarioTwins87 thats correct. you should only have 1 cable to your bat neg and thats going from the shunt bat neg to the battery negative terminal.

It's not entirely obvious to me what values to put in the app - I have no idea what the Pukert variable is, for example. Where can I find the values to put into the app?
@natesdiysolar
@natesdiysolar 4 ай бұрын
Sorry about that. I did not explain that value much because it's not relevant for lifepo4 cells. Here is an explanation I found. The Peukert’s Exponent is used for the lead-acid batteries. Simply said this exponent is the ratio between the charging and discharging of a battery. It means how much energy you need to charge compared to the energy you get when discharging. For the LiFePO4 cells, the efficiency of the charge and discharge rate is very high - above 97% and more. That is why the Peukert’s Exponent is close to 1.00. The battery producers do not give this value because it is not necessary for the LiFePO4 cells.
