Throwback Tuesday! Time to install one of the most popular word processors from the 80s on MS-DOS! Hope you guys like it!

I worked 3 years on an IBM computer with WP 5.1, as a legal trainee. A superb stable and fast program. The operation system DOS, the word processor WP 5.1 and the work of 3 years (thousands pages wp documents) fitted all on a 20 MB hard disk.

You don't know your DOS commands. Type in C:\dir/p This will give you all the commands page by page. Then when you find the file it is C:\wp5.1 Then the file will run. It is now 40 years since I ran my first DOS 3 but I still remember all the commands.

I think WordPerfect 5.1 was the first successful version of WordPerfect for DOS (or at least the easiest to use on DOS.) The other WordPerfect applications prior to this were a little bit harder to use; plus it also lacked many things such as a drop-down menu, and more advance functions -- such as graphics.

HOW do you even think that you can run .wpg or .ins files in dos and also try to run a file with UPPERCASE letters, like if that does anything else than typing it in lowercase.

Having install this on everything from dos to macos, you are completly missunderstaning the insall steps.

Ok i have some question. 1. WordPerfect format is doc. or other? 2. I need some conversion tool for export to modern word procesor app like in my lovly WordStar 4.0? 3. Or i can wite in this and open in win 10 without problems with font coding...

Yeah what is the WordPerfect file format? Does use the .doc files like MS-Word does, or is it something else?

@@NathanDavisVideos For you Freind is any problem to convert to modern format like rtf or other, coz any wierd fonts in english. Im from Poland and only 1 program can convert me ws file to plain txt with my font but you have ez tools for convert. When you instal wordstar 7 you have tools for conversion if you choice before install :) -> here You have tools and full info :) www.sfwriter.com/vdos-old.htm PS. If anyone can convert ws file to modern doc or rtf with formating in Polish lang please tell me how i can do that. Coz i love that program but if i write book i lost all my paragraph, centering, font format and other after conversion for txt file.That converter ez can convert word perfect file too :)

Was this done on virtual machine, or was actually installed on an ACTUAL PC?

It was installed on an emulated pc (low-level emulation), which is as close as it can be to actual hardware from back then.

Via PCem. It's better than virtualization for old stuff (dos and win 9.x)

@@ArturAraripe I use VirtualBox. It seems to install fine on that.
