Thank you. I’ve done lots of radios and alarms systems so I was head over heels to do one that didn’t require any soldering.

So sorry-I rarely use this app. But aside from the speedometer, I was only disappointed in the audio output quality for chimes/alerts. I opted for silent alarms rather than the staticky radio speaker provided.

You have an R53, it would have to be specific for that model, unlike her R56

So jealous! I had never seen a coupe until after I bought mine, and the coupe is way sexier! Good luck with the install, holler if you run into issues.

That is correct, the R56 radio in mine was a little different than the LCIs. I had to do some cutting and filing to the plastic to enlarge the opening, but beyond that, it did not give me any problems. There is still a small gap under the button (.75”) but it doesn’t bother me personally. The CD player overshadows it for the most part.

Did he happen to specify what modifications? As mentioned in the video, I had the cut the center hvac panel to accommodate the CD player, but I don’t know what else he could mean. They told me I needed a canbus adapter but I never saw or installed such a thing.

1) No, I was not able to identify a brand that I could search for. 2) The chimes I heard we’re just the regular door chimes that you hear from the factory unit-but much worse quality. Scratchy, loud. I left the speaker connected for about 5 minutes. 3) I’m not sure about Android auto/Car Play, sorry. I never cared to use much besides the Bluetooth function.

Thank you! The unit in the video is outdated now, it was the 7.x Android. I believe there have been at least 2 new releases since then. I would look on eBay, and if you aren’t sure about fitment, email the seller. They are usually more than happy to help you out! Hope this helps. Good luck!

I do not have a wiring diagram, but if you go into Settings>Extra settings, there is an option called “Reversing volume.” Turn that sucker on and you’ll be set! The previous model did not have this option so I was thrilled to find it on version 7!

Is yours also a 2007? If you have the link for the one they are directing you to, share it if you don’t mind. I had to argue with them a bit because they knew the center console wouldn’t fit mine, but there were no wiring issues at all. Just some plastic cutting. The black unit comes with the black CD player.

I timed it just now. It took 37 seconds from the time I pushed the ignition button to the time it loaded the home screen. But when you consider half that time is probably spent putting on your seat belt and shifting everything, it certainly doesn’t feel that long when you’re getting in to go drive.

It is an android system, but I don’t use androids myself. My iPhones have all been able to connect to it no problem!

I have an aftermarket system but I left the original amplifier in the car and hooked up. So yes, it does work with the factory amplifier. But the seller recommended getting a canbus adapter to go with it. There’s a link in the description. Thank you for asking, I had forgotten about the adapter.

Thanks! It was literally all plug-and-play, a huge change from the soldering I’m used to. That giant speedometer was just hideous. I actually sold the car last year but had no issues other than the ones I touched on in the videos. I would imagine the newer ones are even better but probably have a couple bugs like all new tech. If you’ve got the time or money to get it installed, it’s totally worth it!

@@tf968 I do. I suppose you wasn't taking about yourself installing it though. There aren't many choices around here. Do you think the average Best Buy installer would know what they are doing with a Mini?

It doesn’t have a SiriusXM feature preloaded, but with the Android OS you should presumably be able to download one onto it via the play store.

The seller supposedly included the canbus adapter with my radio, but I never saw it. The blinker and all other audible notifications are sent through the external speaker included with the radio. Frankly, the quality was so poor that I opted not to install the speaker. So I currently have no blinker sounds but I’m okay with it. The speaker included with the radio has to be mounted during the install if you’re going to use it.

Daniel Deleon go in the settings and disable the camera option, surely you don’t need the camera to park.

It -should- work in that car, yes. I would consult the eBay ad for application to be sure.

Unfortunately no, at least not that I’m aware of. It’s Chinese 🤷🏻‍♀️ but you can download a speedometer app and use it on the display. Hope that helps!

The voice button on the steering wheel serves as a mute button with the android unit.

They’re right-it won’t “fit” because of the hvac control panel. It didn’t fit mine either, which is why I had to cut the panel. If you’re willing to cut the panel to make the CD player fit, then it’s doable. But I would confirm that the item you’re looking at is suitable for 2007’s.

If you’re not comfortable taking the dash apart, I would recommend taking it to a car audio store. But otherwise I think I covered the major points in the video. If you do go this route and have any questions, feel free to ask! I don’t have the car anymore but I remember it pretty clearly. Good luck!

The unit brand was indeterminate. Hard as I tried to find the maker, it was just some no-name Chinese product. At the time it was listed on eBay, but honestly I don’t recall the cost. There are newer versions now. The ads should be able to confirm compatibility. Heck, Amazon may have some good options now. Thanks for watching!

Correct, I took a simple rotary tool and carved it out after measuring. They cautioned it wouldn’t fit so I was prepared. You only need to do the cutout on the underside and you’ll forget it’s even there.

They are trying to sell you the silver one because that model doesn’t require cutting the plastic. I had to dremel out a good bit to make the black one fit into the center trim piece. So it depends on how much work you want to do.

Mine was 100% plug and play as far as the HU itself. It had a trigger wire for the backup camera that I thought was labeled, but I just tapped into the main harness wires for power and ground (ground is brown, can’t recall the power wire). Sorry, I don’t think I’ll be much help as I sold the car a few years ago.

It’s some Chinese brand, E-sky I believe. Same brand as the camera itself.

Sorry, this one will not fit the older models. =( But you can probably find one on eBay that will work.

No, if your 2006 is the 1st gen, this will not fit. Some late 2006’s are 2nd gen but I can’t say for sure without seeing it.

There doesn’t appear to be a brand name on it anywhere. Look for “Mini Cooper Android radio” on eBay and you should be able to find similar units with newer operating systems.

It should have come with the GPS chip. Definitely contact the seller! The chip contains the pirated root files for navigation.

My central dash unit did not display any of those things, but they are still fully functional on the tach.

Nah I never had any issues with the battery draining. It’s powered exactly the same as the factory unit, so if your original radio isn’t affecting voltage, this one won’t either. Great question.

You can find them on eBay. You’d have to confirm with the seller on RHD fitment, I have no idea.

Solid State good question. My car did not come equipped with PDC but I imagine it would still work since it’s a separate module. However, if the alert sounds are output the same way as blinker sounds, you would have to use the gawd awful speaker that came with the unit.

I used the rca cables provided to hook up a wireless receiver for my backup camera. There are a couple yellow ones dedicated to it, at least on this unit.

How much did it cost

They fluctuate but usually between $400 and $500.

It’s great compared to the factory radio. Overall I’m happy with it. Occasionally it will do a random reboot, but it recovers immediately. Otherwise it works just as it should.

Alfonso, I have 2013 R60 ALL4 with the upgraded HK stereo. I researched this extensively before deciding on: www.aliexpress.com/item/4000401057977.html Don't have a coronary when you see the price, but after my research and ALOT of comparing, I concluded this is the best option. The main reason I chose this one is because after extensive Q&A with the seller, I confirmed that no functionality will be lost...this include, the TPMS, HK stereo, steering wheel controls, etc. The other notable reason was this seller is the actual manufacturer of the unit. Right before I ordered it, I asked all of my questions about comparability, the response came in an hour and started with " I checked with the engineer...." I was concerned that if I bought from a distributor and had issues\questions, needed a system update, etc., I'd be up the creek. I ordered the optional Carplay, all-in with tax was ~$900. Based on my research, I concluded that anything under $600-$700 is just not worth the risk. For example, many of the cheaper units do not support the factory-installed TPMS, so you have to buy a $100 upgrade that amounts to an aftermarket TMPS that circumvents the factory TPMS with four valve stem caps. I'm expecting delivery on ~6/15 so stayed tuned.

I would check the listing again to see if it’s compatible, but if it is, I would say yes-especially if you have the giant speedometer factory unit. It’s a huge upgrade. As far as whether or not it’s the best choice, I can’t say. But I have no regrets. =)

Yes, mine was an R56. It did not show mph on the radio, only kmh. But you can change the tach to show mph using NCSExpert.

Yes, it comes with all the necessary wiring, including the adapter to connect the new unit to the factory plugs. Absolutely no wire splicing required.

That’s correct, there was no splicing involved, it was all plug-and-play. Just be sure the fitment for your R60 is correct before you make the purchase.

Nope! It came with all the required cables and adapters.

That is strange. I never had any such issue. Did you try to reset using the button on the front of the CD player?

The car did not have steer control, but the radio problably thought it had ;) After an update it works like a charm :) There is one little annoying thing which i have not solved yet.....the radio gives sound when I signal to go to left or right. Do you know if that is fixable ? I have not found where i can switch it off, oh and when the car is in reverse and the camera goes on...the sound will stop

The annoying sound for turn signals and chimes is why I did not connect the speaker at the back of the unit. So my car was silent at those times. You can’t get rid of it unless you remove the speaker. As far as the music muting in reverse, that you can turn off. Go into your setting and look for something about reversing camera. It’ll have an on/off choice. Sorry I don’t know the exact path, I have since sold the car.

@@jasonrogers747 I contacted the seller on alieexpress and received an update. After that it worked. Unfortunately I do not have those files anymore. Later this week I will try to find them but please do not have too much hope for that.

So old haha. As far as the camera, it was just one of those with the bracket that mounts to the license plate using the existing bolts. The wireless kit was separate I believe, but I’ve no idea what kind it was. I’m sure any Chinesium brand will work these days.

Hmm. All I can suggest is double checking the wiring to make sure you got all the cables plugged in. There is one sneaky one on the car side that can sink out of sight if you’re not careful.

I believe it’s got a black connector on it and it was originally routed through the top section of the head unit opening. It’s only a few wires but I can’t remember now. It connects straight to the back of the new unit somewhere. I apologize, I sold the car a few years ago.

Doubtful. The ad says it’s only fit for models up to 2013.

You can see the speed in km/h on the radio itself, and there is no way to change it to mph. I used some basic coding to permanently display the digital speed on the tach. If you use the BC button on the end of the stalk to thumb through the tach options, pause a couple seconds in between and one of them will display your digital speed, even without the coding.

Hey there! Honestly it’s been so long now, whatever version it is your guy bought is probably very different from mine. It may not need a can-bus adapter at all. If you’re still in contact with him, I’d ask for a link to his specific radio. Maybe the listing will have that detail, or the seller could confirm/deny. Sorry I can’t be of more help! This technology changes so quickly. (I also could not find the one I purchased-it’s too far back for my eBay history to show.)

It’s an android system so it’s a little slow, but not horribly. The one time I used a stopwatch, it took 37 seconds to start up. But while using it, there’s very little delay between screens and apps. Hope that helps.

Oh yeah, it still works 100%.

If you have the LCI version of the panel, then yours will not require modification. My factory CD player is much taller than this new one so I had to cut the panel.

Absolutely no splicing required. There some extra wires you can remove but everything in the harness plugs right in.

@@tf968 I realized this is only the case if you have the default sound system. If you have Harman Kardon speaker upgrades, its gonna be a headache. This essentially goes for any of the android unit upgrades as they only support the base speakers and not HK ones.

Sorry I can’t be of more help. But you should have full functionality EXCEPT for the Bluetooth steering wheel buttons if your car did not come with Bluetooth originally. You might consult whomever installed it.

The cables are all pretty straightforward. They are all pokeyoked so that they only connect in 1 way and can’t be mixed up. There weren’t any errors with the canbus system, but I don’t think the aftermarket radio communicated with the car in the same way as the factory unit. The car has been gone for a while, my memory is a little fuzzy.

It was necessary to cut mine, but not all models require cutting. You can ask the seller for confirmation on fitment if you’re not sure.

You can always buy the console of the LCI, the HVAC still fits even though it looks completely different. Just make sure you order one with the right holes for the AC / screen heater / Climate Control buttons

I always just used the speed on the tach. But you can use the one in the navigation, or you can probably download an app.

Pull it back out and make sure you have the small black car side harness plugged into the radio. It plugs into the upper portion of the unit.

Hmm...I’m not familiar with Android OS but if your music plays through the phone, and the phone connects to the radio (the screen will show artist and song title on the A2DP screen), it should work. Sorry I accidentally deleted your last comment. I don’t use this app often. 😬

The listing says it will fit as long as your car does not already have a navigation screen. It only fits models that have the large speedometer (like the silver one in the video).

Check eBay. There’s always a newer version out. I did not have the factory Bluetooth module but my steering wheel controls worked for music.

It’s an android unit and does not have car play unfortunately. I don’t think it supports car play but there are newer versions now that might.

There was a tiny black ground wire that I connected to the CD player, but I can’t remember if it was for the head unit or the backup camera. Otherwise, all the ground wires are integrated into the harness. Ground wires car side are brown. Maybe check for continuity and see if you have an issue on one.

TF Hi Tamara, Can you give me the link to the manufacturer? The unit is not allowing me to listen to music if I switch to another app, ie: navigation. It will not allow me to factory reset the unit either. Have you experienced any of these. Thanks again. My email is torresbenny@gmail.com.

I’m not sure who the manufacturer even is, my searches never yielded anything definitive. Your best bet is to contact the seller. The one I bought came with a 1 year warranty. Also, did you try the reset button on the front of the CD player or the factory reset in the settings? I would try both. I never had issues with music interruption, but you might check the settings also. Sorry I no longer have the car so I can’t go in and look. =(

No and yes. I paid about $500, and it looks like they still run about that high.
