This is a cover of a Tommy James and the Shondells hit back in 1968. Billy just upgraded it to an 80's sound. You guys should check out "White Wedding," a Billy Idol original. It's one of his signature pieces. That and "Eyes Without a Face."

LOL that's exactly why I watch Brad and Lex's reactions. I'm a musician, and I also watch reaction videos from people who are also musicians, or producers, or in other ways know a LOT about what they're talking about from a musical aspect, and I appreciate their educated opinions and their knowledge. But somehow it just...takes something away. There's something to be said in favor of analyzing a song from a technical perspective, sure. But all that music theory and knowledge and all that stuff boils down to one basic thing: When composers create music, they use those tools to evoke a specific FEELING in the listener. And Lex FEELS the music.

With Billy idol, you don't really require a lyric video, his MTV videos are what you need to be watching. There is NO deep hidden meaning in many of his songs. They are just fun as hell to dance to, Brad. Just watch Lex and react to that.

Whenever this song came on at a party after every break in the lyrics in the verses, the crowd would yell “Hey, Hey What? Get laid, get f*cked” on the beat…even at clubs. I don’t know where that started but to this day if it comes on in the car…😊🤷🏻♀️

In college bars in the late 80s, the whole bar would scream, "Get laid, get f*cked" after the Mony Mony line on the beats. It's a good nonsense song and a solid cover tune.

Yep for me it was house parties! The minute this song started everyone started bouncing & doing the call back. Song came out in '81 but when I went to college in '89 - same thing when the DJ would throw it on.

Tommy James said he was in a hotel in New York and there was a neon sign outside the window for Mutual of New York insurance company (MONY). That is where he got the idea from. Tommy James and the Shondells had a lot of hits in the 60's. Some good stuff. I believe I heard somewhere that Billy Idol said he did this song because he lost his virginity to this song.

The most fun thing about this song was when they played it in a bar, the whole bar would sing along. During the refrain though everyone would sing “l@id, get l@id get f*cked. I’m sure there are tons of old bar videos out there showing this. It was a nationwide thing and this song still reminds me of that. In1984 when I was 17 I actually briefly met Billy Idol and it was one of the most satisfying moments of my life! He's still putting out great music and I just adore him! Nice song choice and rabbit hole to go down. White Wedding is a must!

The title of this song was inspired by the Mutual of New York (MONY) building. The song was largely written except for the chorus, and Tommy James walked out on a balcony in Manhattan, looked up, and saw "M.O.N.Y." atop the building in the flashing lights. Hence, "Mony Mony."

Back in 1990 we hit the port in Halifax Nova Scotia. We were at the bar (My Apartment) and there was easily over a hundred people at this block party. We were slamming down shots when this song came on. It was an immediate adrenaline rush for the crowd ! Every time that the "Mony Mony" chorus hit the crowd followed with "Get Laid...Get F@cked" ! What a night !

Or "Draggin' The Line". Also, the song "Tighter, Tighter" was originally to be a Tommy James song but he didn't like the way his voice sounded when recording it so he gave it to another group called Alive N Kicking who had a hit with it.

You should really check out the original artist, Tommy James and the Shondells. Lots of 1960s hits, with lots of energy. They were very popular choices to cover in the 1980s.

Tommy James and the Shondells had more #1 hits in the late 60's and early 70's than any other artist. They just didn't get the respect they deserved because they were pretty much one of the first "boy bands". 6 of there songs (including this one) became billboard top ten songs as remakes in the 80's by other artists but still nobody knows who they are.

My cousin played in Billy's band for years. He always put on a great show and is a super nice guy. At one sound check he started singing Beatles songs and was great. Should have never passed on "Don't You" but if he didn't no one would know who the Simple Minds were. Dies a great cover of The Doors, "LA Woman."

ROTFLMAO - OMG I'm laughing so hard over here - I'm crying. I've been watching reaction videos for a year now - and this one is at the very top of my favorites. Lexy - best dance moves EVER. You keep rockin. Brad - some lyrics are just written for fun without any deeper meaning. Mony Mony and Footloose were the "wedding dance" songs of my generation. You want to get people out on the dance floor - you played these two. If I can make a suggestion - most 80's videos should be watched in official form. Because most 80's videos are amazing - and need to be watched to get the full story and effect of the song. But awesome reaction. Hugs from Canada

Tommy James and the Shondells made this popular in the 60's, I've never heard this version/cover but they did a good job, you should check out the original.

Billy Idol was lead singer in Generation X. They are super slept on. Kiss me deadly was a great song.

Lex’s dancing is exactly what happened at every dance I ever went to when this song is played and it still happens at every wedding dance to this day

This is one of those songs that would come on the radio when you were driving and you would just start jamming out like Lex. Perfect driving song.

Fairly new subber here. You two are so great together. It’s refreshing to see someone so enthused about music I grew up on. The 70’s were such a cool time for music, though this song is from ‘81, with the original from ‘68(Tommy James and the Shondells). I get both of your reactions as I like to know the lyrics and I feel the music heavily. I played a lot of the music you’ve reacted to in local bands(drummer) and I was always excited to bring songs we put together in practice to the clubs. I’ve kind of been binging on your channel and really enjoying it. Keep rocking!

Omg I love this song!! This is the song me and my grandfather would dance and jam to. I’m in my late 30’s so that gives you an idea of how far back that is for us. Best memories!!

Great reaction. It's one of those songs that makes ya happy. If I get a bit down I just have to watch lex bouncing around and smiling and everything is suddenly good with the world. Love the pink hair lex, really suits your personality ✌️♥️

Look up “the fill” that was sung by club patrons in the 80’s and 90’s. This song was a huge hit in the clubs.
