For all those who are thinking of trying this, and don't have everything, I just made this dish. It came out great! - I mixed the spices separately, but didn't add pepper (not a fan). I put 8 thighs into a gallon sized, ziplock bag, poured in the spices, and shook until all of the pieces were evenly covered - I quartered the potatoes and lightly salted. - I cooked the chicken as directed, and removed. - I added the chicken stock and de-glazed the pan. Then I added the potatoes (and butter) to the bottom, and placed the stock trivet on top. - Then, I added the chicken and closed it up. While it was cooking, I roasted some vegetables. Everything turned out great! You don't have to have the other trivet, or steamer pan (but, they would be nice. I'll look for one, but I won't let not having one stop me from making this dish again). Thanks Sandy! This recipe is a keeper.

Made this wonderful recipe today for my family. Everyone loved it and it quickly disappeared. My granddaughter helped me make the gravy at the end and it was a great learning experience for her. It was magical because the gravy was so good and she got all the credit. Thanks so very much.

I made your chicken thighs and potato recipe tonight...but I added carrots and celery. The gravy came out pretty good. The 8 pieces of chicken were sooooo tender. The family loved this dinner. I'll surely be making more in the future!

I just got a 6 quart after using a 3 qt for myself for over a year now. I never had an issue with the pressure valve going up before I can get the lid on (after saute mode was on), but I just did with my 6 qt. I pushed mine down with my finger too but it almost burned it. Nothing serious at all, more of almost scalding the tip a little. I'd just caution to be careful when doing it. You can maybe use a writing pen or something instead of your finger. Great video!

Made this tonight for dinner. Thank you for the recipe. It was delicious. I didn't have tall enough trivet to put over the potatoes so I made three foil balls and then placed the one that came with my instant pot. Then just set chicken on top. Wonderfully easy. Thanks again

Lanie Nell Barker Dugan Rather than introduce aluminum into your food, you can simply lay the chicken on top of the potatoes, without a trivet, or a pan. The chicken juices will drop onto whatever ingredients are below regardless, whether it's separated by a trivet or not. It will be delicious without the taste of aluminum in the food. There's a health reason why the Instant Pot liner, trivets and pans are made from high quality stainless steel instead of aluminum. Aluminum imparts a particular taste to food cooked in it, along with suspicious chemicals that are liked to Alzheimer's and Cancer.

Thanls so much for this idea. You made a great video. I made a variation of this recipe and my family really enjoyed it! I added a few carrots along with the potatoes and I cooked the chicken directly on the veggies (no steamer basket yet). Although the chicken was not very crispy it was still very good. Looking forward to trying more of your recipes.

Those mitts are known as clam shells. An apt name I think especially from being on the coast of Maine where I was born and raised. I'm going to get an accessory set from Amazon that is supposed to be Universal because I don't have an instant pot I have another brand and I haven't used it yet! I'm disabled and quite handicapped with my hands so it's perfect for me along with my Waffle iron until I get some lighter pots and pans. But the three things I would rely on most of my crockpot the waffle iron and my pressure cooker. I think I might have tossed some green beans in with the potatoes just a thought. :-)

Just found your videos. First, our instant pot does not have a “poultry” button. We’re trying manual, steam, 14min., with natural release. We don’t have the trivit with legs either. We just put potatoes in, stock trivit on top of taters, then put thighs and some broccoli, in steamer, on top of trivit. I’ll let you know how everything tastes in about 30 minutes or so. Thanks for sharing. Great voice, and agree, don’t need faces, “just show me the settings, and the pot!”

Could I substitute dry 12-15min egg noodles for the potatoes? I wonder if it might burn or noodles would be over done? There is a learning curve to this. Thanks your videos are so helpful:) I watched your chicken and noodles video, buy I'm looking for a simple boiled noodle with the chicken over it w/o gravy.
@SandyGClifton
@SandyGClifton 5 жыл бұрын
egg noodles would be mush in that amount of time. However, if you omit the potatoes, and cook the rest as instructed, you can add the noodles after you take out the thighs and cook them using the sauté feature. That way you can keep an eye on them, and check for doneness or liquid level as they cook.

You can make a slurry with 1/4 cup of water and a teaspoon of cornstarch. That should be enough for a 1 1/2 cup water (to be honest, a lot of times I just eyeball it)

How much corn starch exactly did you use as I'm kind of a dope in the kitchen. Things others take to granite I struggle with. This is a nice cook all in one meal, the kind I like, so this was a really informative video for me, because it's simple and as a single guy with a instant pot I like simple, LoL. Always a thumbs for your cooking show. Also, I don't see any reason you could not put the steamer basket right on top the potatoes if you don't hav a tall trivet? The trivet that came with my pressure cooker on has 3/4" tall legs.

Can we assume that you used regular Olive Oil, and NOT EVOO (extra virgin) ???.. as the EVOO has too low a smoke-point while the regular OO has a much higher smoke point. EVOO is best used for flavoring, drizzling on salads and other cooked foods. For sautéing I much prefer using Canola Oil.....

I didn't change the time as I had no idea how to adjust the time between the large IP and my mini. BAM TWO I wouldn’t, the sauté seals in the juices it cooks the outside, and then as you cook the juices have that sautéed bit as a barrier. Where if you cook first and then broil, you’re probably going to end up with dry chicken!

I use whatever I have. The reds do need a little bit longer cook time, so they work well in this recipe. But you can cut any potato in larger chunks and it is the same thing.

Thank you! I have been wondering what in the world would happen, because even in the pressure cooker cookbook I bought, all the recipes specified red small potatoes, and once thin skinned yellow potatoes. All I've got are good old russets, lol.

I've used peeled russet potatoes successfully in my IP. You just have to cut them in large chunks. HTH! ~Anastacia in Cleveland Edit: I suspect that many IP recipes call for red or other thin-skinned potatoes because you can skip the peeling step.
