we have a levy in canada and my go to blades, spydercos are now in some cases 100$ more then they used to be, so these brands make me very happy to be able to still get a boss knife for under 100$ with good materials, 14c28n used to be kershaws higher end steel, and it was my favorite at one point, 154cm is also one of my favs, kinda hope budgets would come in that at some point

Everything I want in an EDC knife. Decent steel, good weight to length ratio, and a nice price. I can carry something like that every day, and if I lose it or destroy it I won't need therapy sessions to get over my loss.

Great review! Just wanted to mention that there are three positions for the Omega springs for lighter or more robust tension. They come stock in the mid position.

Just received my vosteed raccoon from blade HQ. It came with an extra set of springs! They must have heard the knife community (aka:you) asking for it! This is definitely my new favorite edc. It's much lighter than I thought it would be, but doesn't feel delicate. I figured it would be around the same weight as my tenacious but it's noticeably lighter and with the deep carry pocket clip it's just perfection. Their attention to detail is impressive. I love that they have a recessed clip cover on the other side so it doesn't tear up your pocket. I only wish it was made anywhere but china 😅 but I understand why at 59$. The green handle scales are beautiful. the picture on bHQ made them look like a very dark green but they are actually more of a forest green, I think they photoshopped the black knife to make it look green. Thanks for bringing this gorgeous blade to my attention. You know what you're talking about for sure. Keep finding awesome high value budget knives, that's all I can afford right now! Update: no spine whack failures.

I think that for everyone who has wanted to try a fully ambidextrous bar-lock knife, but has been iffy on Benchmade's prices (and the sudden market glut when their patent expired), this is the ideal buy right now.

I got the white mountain knives exclusive version of the racoon that was released recently. I tested the lock up and had no failures, so that's good.

Ive probably watched this review 3 times already, and Ive been itching to add the raccoon to my collection. This is probably the most comprehensive review for this knife on youtube, and thankyou for it (the size comparison with the rat 1 and the pm3 was really useful as well) Just placed an order for the black on black one about 3 minutes ago. Cant wait to test it, new sub.

Love that this one worked out! I wanted to go with the Grind to try out their bar lock but I went with the drop bear and Deka first which are both excellent. After seeing this I just ordered one in blue micarta and I can’t wait to see how it compares!

Just FYI, I recently got the button lock version, did the "spine test", and mine was solid. I emailed Vosteed about that issue, and they replied that "we make improvements with each batch of our Raccoon knives", implying that they addressed the button lock issue noted in your 6 month-old video. Hope this helps instill confidence in this great brand. Thanks!

I always appreciate extra springs in anything that takes springs. An extra screw is nice too....the only omega spring that's ever broken on me was on a Benchmade when they first came out. It happened on the first day. Probably an inclusion. They sent me a new knife and two extra springs that I still have. Also the only time I ever dealt with Benchmade customer service, don't know if it's still as good but they sent me a new knife and a paid shipping label to return the other one. And all i requested was a new spring....

Bought one and really like it. My one criticism is also that it’s not a full deep carry. I think if looks cleaner fully submerged rather than peeking out of the pocket.

I’ve received mine yesterday and apparently they listen to their customers. It came with two spare omega springs! The knife is really nice but feels kind of hard to open using the thumb stud. Most of the time I use the crossbar and a little shake.

This is the perfect knife for me at least.. I'm love 14c28n sandvik stainless steel... I consider it a good alternative to elmax (bit pricey)... When comparing it to elmax steel you lose a little bit of the edge retention but 14c28n sandvik sharpens up really nicely and quickly too.... I think I might pick this knife up as my new pocket EDC.. but I love 14c28n sandvik so much that I got a companion knife to this too which is the QSP canary neck knife in 14C28N.... during the summer I prefer neck carry and then during the winter I prefer pocket carry / belt carry... but either way this knife and my qsp canary will always be on me or my EDC bag I just interchange them (one I get my hands on it lol).. anyways thanks for the very thorough review😎👍💯

I have the button lock (mine has solid lockup, first thing I checked) very fidget friendly. I think I might need to pick up this version too. I don't have any crossbar lock knives currently 🤔

I bought one today then stumbled across this video to validate my choice. Same thing happened with the chevalier and penguin. I opted for the other blade shape though

I must have gotten unlucky with mine. The action is really spongy and the soft micarta seems to be shedding lint into the pivot area. It does not even drop shut, weirdly. I am hopeful those issues work themselves out. Mi e is coated blade, green micarta.

Shape really reminded me of the Kunwu Pulsar, just in kind of a low rent version. Still great for the price.

Mine came in today. Absolutely blown away with the build quality of this knife. The Micarta has that perfect feel to it. Nice factory edge too. Only thing I would change on it will be to reduce the crossbar tension eventually. The knife is so good out of the box I hate to take it down and reduce the tension on it. This ia an awesome knife. Very satisfied.

mnb is selling a knife which is an exact copy of the mini Adamas by Benchmade. I didnt know when I bought it that it was copy of anything. As cheap as it is its a great knife

Two Civivis in a row this week have shipped to me in an absolutely terrible state - a Riffle with the strongest detent I've ever seen on a flipper, and an Elementum button lock that has absolutely dire action that can barely open. Could just be super bad luck, but I'm not going for a third, that refund is going towards one of these Raccoons. I'm so glad that these cross bar locks are spreading even to knives in this price range, in my opinion it's probably the best overall lock up for an EDC knife. The amount of small things Vosteed is doing right on this knife shows they're going way further than most brands in this price range. There's even a filler for the reversible pocket clip holes? I mean there are knives way out of this price range that can't be bothered to do that!

it feels like a improved kizer original to me. a better lock and a better choke up grip(in my opinion). too bad that vosteed does not sale their products in China.

they probably dont want to go through the trouble of getting a clearance for selling restricted knives(a locking folder is illegal to carry to public places in China). other company like civivi will let a middleman to sell their knives for them. but not vosteed. so the only way i can buy a vosteed knife is to find a middleman to purchase the knife from other country then mail it back to China.😔

I know I’m YEARS late here but I FINALLY got around to grabbing a Osborne 940 and I’ve never been more disappointed in anything in my life. The quality is fantastic but the actual blade itself holds a edge worse then gas station knives. And it’s only used to open and break down boxes at work. Sooooooooooo disappointed! 240 butter knife

I think your success with omega springs may be related to how many knives you own. None of them get “over used”. I have owned two. The $6 Walmart one and the Kershaw Iridium. Both got tons of flicks and both blew a spring in just a few months.

Actually... (Pushes glasses up) The Ritter/Hogue gets deployed at least once per day because it's used in reviews. This has some pretty serious weight to it because I have 3000 uploads. No failures and it absolutely does get used on the side.

I've got two knives that I'm procrastinating sending to benchmade for omega spring replacements. Crossbar locks suck and buying one from a foreign company is you begging to have a useless knife in a year.

It's really not that difficult to change out those springs. There are tools and jigs that help the process along.
