What's up Idaho painter, I was wondering if you can make a video of Tips & Tricks of how to degrease a garage floor for prepping for epoxy and also is it okay to have some stain spots on floor. Also how to patch cracks on garage floor for epoxying and how do you know when your garage floor is "ready" Please please make a video thank you

Very good job my friend I like the way you took your time didn't get an arrest and explained it to people if more people would take the time to actually teach something instead of ordering it we're rushing through it the world would be a better place I think you did a great job and yes you are right if you walk out with the acid on your shoes you will leave shoe prints everywhere I have seen several people do it I've also seen people take the time to dilute the acid and squirt it straight out of the garage down their driveway or blacktop driveway yes that is a real mess anyways brother you did a great job on the video have a great day and may the great spirit bless and watch over you and yours

So the acid WILL eat away at the oil spots? The previous homeowner at my place had a leaky car and left a dark stain on the concrete. I was told I'd have to rent a special floor grinder to remove the concrete down below the oil spot? Also, do I need to mask off my walls to protect any paint/baseboards from the acid?

@monkeymallow

Great vid, very informative, thanks. I am in the process of putting down an epoxy surface in my garage and have already done an acid etch using the citric acid that came with the epoxy kit. I rinsed the floor numerous times with a high pressure water spray and have got a very clean etched surface now. The problem though now is that the fine cracks in the concrete have absorbed some of the water and two days later I still have a network of darker grey areas of moisture around the cracks - about an inch either side of the cracks. I assume that I need to wait til they fully dry and am wondering if there are any tips to speed up this process or do I just need to be patient?

I'd use a leaf blower, then a heat gun. With a heat gun you can see the concrete drying up right away.
@franfran6152

Heat gun can cause the concrete to crack even more because of drastic temp changes. I'd shop vac the whole area to give it a head start, prevent some of the water seeping into the cracks, then leave a box fan overnight, or use a leaf blower like Mauricio said. Hope that helps

Great video brother. Thanks for the info. I removed carpet, linoleum, tile, and black adhesive mastic, degreased, filled divots, sanded with 20 grit. I still have polished concrete that is not going to hold paint or epoxy. I just tried seal krete clean and etch on a very small test area. Works good in high concentration but can’t foresee doing the whole house with it. Any advice for etching 1200sq ft of interior floors with muratic acid? I was told not to because it would damage Sheetrock and paint but I’ve invested 3 weeks trying to prep the floors to paint instead tiling and hit this roadblock. Peace and blessings

@sdchealthnews
@sdchealthnews 8 жыл бұрын
+ryanspears1986 You really don't want to be breathing this stuff. If your heart is set on using the acid then yes you definitely need to ventilate. Diamond grinding is a far superior method of prepping concrete prior to installing any concrete coatings.

Great info... I am working on a 400 SQ FT garage fairly new about 2 yrs old new home... I have use Muriaitic Acid 2 Times so far. First time, 70/30 water and 2nd time 100% Muriatic Acid, but There still place one the floor still not as rough as I want. I have pressure wash the floor 4 times with rotate tip pressure washer. There's still streaks of residue still on the floor where I feel like the epoxy will not adhere to cause it wipes off with hard rubbing with my finger.. What should I do at this point ? If Muriatic Acid is strong enough, will the pressure usually cleans it out one time ? Also should I pressure wash after rinse off the muriatic acid or let it dry and then pressure wash ?
@sdchealthnews
@sdchealthnews 8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Chu If you would have prepped the floor with a diamond grinder , you wouldn't be having this problem. Diy kits that you can purchase in big box stores are really the only ones who say to use the acid etching. Its designed for the homeowner to do it themselves. We exclusively diamond grind all our concrete floor jobs. If the concrete has a coating that has failed due to improper preparation we will use a shot blaster to remove the old coating and then diamond grind it. This equipment doesn't come cheap, the two machines that im referring too. cost thousands of dollars. This is why the kits are sold with the acid etching. The equipment is available for rent at home depot for around $150 including all the accessories.

@apocalypse9347
@apocalypse9347 4 жыл бұрын
miguel garcia I used blue bear to remove the black mastic. Damn! That stuff works great! I degreased, rinsed, and mopped and found a highly polished concrete underneath. I filled a hundred carpet tack divots and two cracks then I rented a sander with 20 grit and went over for several hours. No change. The concrete repels water because it’s highly polished. I’ve been advised not to use muratic acid for interior so I got seal krete clean and etch. It worked on my test area at high concentration but don’t know if I’m going to do the whole house with it since I would need several gallons to complete. Also, I was told the muratic fumes would damage my Sheetrock and paint.

I don’t think this is my best option for 1200 sq ft but I can recommend for small mud room. Good luck!

I would always recommend diamond grinding or shotblasting the floor instead. No harsh chemicals, no harmful vapors, you grind and install the coating the same day. What about the acid that has gone into the joints? That will reactivate in the future and slowly deteriorate the concrete under the coatings. I can guarantee, it will be a problem in the future at some point.

Grind the concrete or don't do it at all. If any customer gets a quote that includes acid washing the concrete instead of concrete grinding.... just avoid it Great for short term but grinding the concrete gives proper bond and you'll get over 15 years easily. Acid washing you'll be lucky for any company to give a solid warranty for 10 years. Acid washing is cheap and nasty.

+Adam Ecks I agree Adam. Acid etching is not the way to go. All this water being used is totally unnecessary. Using all this water makes the job take longer. Having to hose down the driveway and watching out for plants so that the acid doesn't kill them can all be avoided by not acid etching in the first place. Diamond grind the surface then vacuum up the dust and your ready to apply the coating, no waiting for the floor to dry and we typically have homeowners back in their garage the very next day.
@Andruw18
@Andruw18 8 жыл бұрын
Thats what i thinking. surface prep should be completed with a grinder. All youre doing with muriatic acid, hydrochloric acid, is reacting the calcium mineral deposits... thats why it foams. You need to grind down to the coarser aggregate like others mentioned. For other concerns, the acid should be neutralized 30s-2 min after applied with ammonia or sodium bicarbonate. Just pouring water on it is putting acid in runoff especially with garage drains. The acid should also be diluted down to 1 part acid to 8 water. As a business, I would be more concerned about showing these practices then making a few dollars on youtube videos. doing something for 15 years doesnt trump an education. like another comment mentioned the acid removing oil. It may but oil is properly removed with alkaline based degreasers and neutralized with a light acid before rinsing.
