the pitot failure was the reason why the Air France 447 from Rio to Paris had crashed if i remember well in June 2009.
@Tzoreol
@Tzoreol 7 жыл бұрын
The main reason. This failure leads to a stall alarm (but was not in stall). The pilot pulled back on the stick (not a good idea), increasing altitude and then really got in stall. But he keeped the stick back.

Exactly, and as it was night time, they had no view of the horizon outside the cockpit and therefore no physical orientation. If it happened in daylight, then they wouldn't have gotten into that situation.

I have to echo something someone said on one of the previous videos: that this is the best thing on KZfaq right now. I started at Ep.10, caught up, and now I'm hooked. This is so, so interesting, the whole build-up, the little details of what you have to sort out and everyone you meet. You and JP are a great combination of characters, and the real-time, this-is-happening-right-now element is just awesome, like we're witnessing something special, which we are. I just checked your Beyond Borders, though, and you've already gone through the UK? Lol, bummer, a little behind with the vlogs, but so awesome. Stay safe Louis and JP. Boooom.

They guy that was telling you that there were government subsidies to keep a population in the north was not being crazy. There is legal precedent that states that in disputed territory (anywhere near Russia) the current owner (Canada) has to assert sovereignty by maintaining a population in the area. If nobody lives there then it is fair game for a territorial dispute. See ; In 1933 the international court of the League of Nations ruled in the Danish-Norwegian dispute over Erik the Red's Land that for it to remain Danish, Denmark had to assert its sovereignty there.[5] Initially, this presence was in the form of two fixed police stations.[6]

The idea that the Iqaluit community and Nunavut is supported by the Canadian government because of sovereignty concerns has some merit but it's also a bond with the First Nation residents who wish to keep living there and not all move to big cities. The high wages that outsiders come for is spent in no small part by the extreme high cost of living: rent, fuel, fresh produce and milk, for example.

You didn't cover the pitot tube overnight. Blowing ice and snow from the ramp obviously entered the pitot tube, not the static ports, and the resulting ram air forced the debris into the pitot system causing the failure.

I can speak as a private pilot and a warbird that there is no noticeable difference in the handling provided that the camera's are placed properly so as to no to disturb the airflow over the control surfaces too much.

Many "little" airplanes do trans-pacific ferry flights, they're aircraft is relatively recent (probably 25-35 years old), it seems well maintained, well equiped and very well crewed. It's not an overly dangerous flight, certainly nothing i would refuse to do myself.

Louie, great segment for us aviation buffs. Many of us are looking forward to seeing you connect and communicate the message and purpose of the flight, and bringing people closer together. I'm also curious if someone in your support group is coordinating with not only people but media and governments along your route and inviting them to share their concerns, messages and invitations to bring people closer together? If you need some help with that Myself and others would be willing to contact media and local groups ahead of your arrival. If you have a good mission statement and invitation as to what you would like to solicit that would might be helpful as a door opener? Cheers! Oh yea, "And keep the greasy side down..."

What prompted you to choose Kern Valley as your origin & destination? 2. I assume it was a matter of economics that you chose a single vs. a twin engine aircraft! 3. There's good stress, that can be managed and improve your awareness, and there's bad stress that just numb your brain and makes you function poorly. I'll say sometimes JP is definitly bordeline too stressed, needs to calm and be reassured. Especially in those new flight situation. It's new for him, even though he has experience in-flight. It's a big (big big big) task for a pilot to do these flights for the first time, while being unsure about the plane. I hope for the best for you two, Louie try to get comfortable with the diferent task of a pilot. Try to help and be a part of it, with being aware of the flight, the location, the route, the gages that need to be checked, the frequences on the radio... etc It's good for the pilot to know that the co-pilot is aware, keep track, help with the route, the equipment. I see you have auto pilot so that's a load of work that the pilot doesn't have to deal with like adjusting the plane constantly but still. Be safe.

Pitot icing is a common issue. The Aspen could not have gotten IFR certification if it just fails when the pitot ices over. It affected both Aspen units, so that's either a problem with the software code on the Aspen or a problem with the underlying hardware or connections between the pitot/static system and the electronic devices that provide an interface to the Aspen. My bet is on the latter.
@ollietoots50
@ollietoots50 6 жыл бұрын
Its a well known problem with these EFD1000 units. When the pitot tube was blocked, you could see the analogue ASI at 0 knots, which indicates the Aspen ASI was also at 0 knots. These units have a heart attack and throw all sorts of fail messages when the indicator is reading 0 knots airspeed but is changing altitude. Helicopters also fitted with these Aspen EFD1000 displays often have failures when ascending without having any airspeed. Its a shitty problem and poorly designed.

Really enjoyed this episode. The footage from the tail-mounted camera is A1, great add. 👍🏻🙂
