Just watching all your build videos. Can’t believe I haven’t heard mention of an electro magnetic catch for the sliding door, wired to the ignition!
@MispronouncedAdventures

If definitely an idea for the next one. I would need to bypass switch as i often go in and out of the cab when at idle at time. But you are right a electro magnetic catch would be a good idea. A few of my friends use them on draws

Thank you! I do quite like automation but that might be a step to far me!. I found out if I turn a corner hard enough for the right or the left I can get the door open and close it haha. I need to add some retaining magnets or something for the open and Close position

@@MispronouncedAdventures ok, now that I've watched all the episodes I have to tell you: You are my #1 favorite person on planet Earth! I'm not kidding! (Also, I don't have friends XD) We have 95% identical thinking, even coming down to the orange-blue theme. I could watch you tackle almost everything I gonna have to face and now I have a brilliant example to follow. Invalueable! I also love, that you don't just go and say, "ok, now I put it together" and switch to the finished product, but we can actually see the process. You, Sir, are remarkable! I wish you many many beautiful years in your new home, and all the joy and adventure in your travels!

@MispronouncedAdventures
@MispronouncedAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
I think my original plan at the beginning the build was to not build anything or just sort of have a curtain which is what I had temporary rigged up during November and December. But since I had just enough of a gap even at a slight angle to have a sliding door I thought I’d go for that

Definitely some figuring out and I particularly wanted to make everything using the current wood I had opposed to buying more. Generally the only thing I had to buy and couldn’t make was the door rail. all the other bits of timber wood, PIR Board and ply were leftover from other parts of the build

Love what you’ve done - and want to ask about how to mainly keep the cab area closed off except for an emergency. Does your driver’s seat fold forward, by any chance? I’ve been wondering whether it would be feasible to fit something like your set-up so the sliding door is part of the shower unit to make an emergency access to the cab. In other words, go into the shower, open the sliding door panel and climb over the folded driver’s seat to get into the cab. Flip driver’s seat back up and drive away from the bad people. The shower side of the sliding door would, of course, be protected by a shower curtain when in use. Am I thinking way too far out of the box with such an idea?
@MispronouncedAdventures
@MispronouncedAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
The front seat can definitely slid and fold forward. So if you did want to make a permanent bulkhead with a emergency hatch via a shower room that could work.

I'm just about to embark on a very similar bulkhead/sliding door using 25mmx44mm batons & 5.5mm ply for both wall and door. Did you end up putting 5mm ply on the cab side in the end? I was wondering about just using the carpet straight over the PIR board/wooden frame to save a few mm (every little counts when you have an L2 transit!)
@MispronouncedAdventures
@MispronouncedAdventures Жыл бұрын
I didn’t end up put much 5mm on. The cab side in a thin plastic then just carpet. Hab side is 5mm on the bottom and fabric on the top to match the van

I'm wanting to build a wall behind my driver's seat similar to yours. Did you just bolt into the already made holes for the metal bulkhead or did you have to come backwards slighty due to the chair adjustments?
@MispronouncedAdventures
@MispronouncedAdventures 2 ай бұрын
Yeah I used the bulkhead threaded hole when I could. So the seat adjustment, I’m the only one would drives the van so I’ve built it in a way would works for me but does limit movement a little

What’s the blue trim material? Has it got any stretch? Where did you find it?
@MispronouncedAdventures
@MispronouncedAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
The light blue stuff on the top of the door section? no stretch I’m afraid but quite easy to apply on flat panels with a spray adhesive. That’s from the uk eBay “blue linen fabric”, was my search, lots of sellers selling the same material in many colour. The light blue is called “ denim” ( just colour name is a denim, it’s not a denim Jean like fabric ). The dark blue elsewhere in the van is “midnight” . many also offer a small samples .

Do the door hold in place when you drive the van?
@MispronouncedAdventures
@MispronouncedAdventures 8 ай бұрын
Good observation, as I don’t have a locking mechanism in place during this video. General driving, not really, but if I do swing it around a roundabout, it will move. To be fair, this could be easily fixed if I put a lightweight magnet on either side.
