In 2022, we realised we weren't happy with our lives and were just existing, not living!
We did something drastic! We sold our home, quit our jobs, and moved into a motorhome to travel Europe for a year. It was the best decision we ever made!
However, in June 2023, we decided, whilst in Switzerland, that we needed a base again for the kids to call home. Ireland was somewhere we felt able to fulfil our dream of an off grid life whilst being as self-sufficient as possible.

You two are so inspiring. I am always delighted to see the improvements that you are doing, and this week, wow oh wow! The cladding transforms the mobile home completely into a gorgeous cabin. So well done! The weather is so unpredictable at this time of year and the days so short, that you need both stamina and courage to move forward with your project. The way that you are doing things make sense. Make your every day living, for you & the kids, as comfortable as possible. Great team work!

Thank you so much for the kind words of support. Yes, it's not easy getting stuff done outside against the Irish winter, but we are trying to work in between the weather. The cladding does make a huge difference already inside. Lots warner & less condensation. 👍

Your home looks fantastic and I am sure it will be so snug and warm with all the insulation .When you have it all cladded I think you may not hear the storms blowing and howling around you.Sam and Becky you are a great team working away together as it should be. Just taught my 5-year-old granddaughter what 'chuffed' means. (we're Canadian) Now it's a secret between us. The siding is great, well done, gave me great ideas for doing something similar. So make sense to have the trailer as a home before you renovate. As a lover of traditional cottages and homes in Ireland, I love seeing them restored, not modernized to the extent that they look modern and therefore ugly. there are many like me all over the world, and that's why we watch such channels like yours!

I love that you have taught your granddaughter our Mancunian sayings! I ❤️ our cottage & cannot wait to bring it back to life. Its always been my dream to one day live in a cottage with land and try to be self sufficient. A long road ahead but it's so worth it. I'd never knock the place down. 💕

Cladding just utterly changes the static completely! Way to go! That wood is gorgeous! Thoroughly enjoying watching the process from not-so-cold Santa Barbara County in California! I still worry about Toby! Would love more Toby vids too! Hoping that someday he’ll be yours….WITH a girlfriend!

Ahh, I'll do an update on Toby. He ignored me last time I went. Just rude 😉. One day, I'd love to take him, but sadly, until we sell the motorhome and can afford to securely fence the area and vet bills, etc, I have to make do with visiting only. 😢

Yep feels like never ending storms atm It's already improved the condensation in our bedroom and we sill have the other side to do! It's a Christmas miracle! No more wet mouldy clothes! 👍

Yes, and there is a huge difference in the condensation, too. Our bedroom is usually baltic wuth mould on the walls and it's definitely improved. 👍

Home Safety. What a beautiful warm rustic cabin you will have when you're finished cladding the mobile home. It makes a lot of sense to have a comfortable 'home' while you are renovating the cottage and I agree with you about the old building. You just cannot create the charm of an old cottage on to a new build. You're doing great I'm excited for you and looking forward to the next video.

Ideally plant as many indigenous trees as possible now. Each visitor could bring one as a house-warning gift - or some such thing. Make people aware that you want them 🙂

Honestly, the difference in the condensation has been amazing. It's good to get dry clothes out of the cupboard & not slightly damp ones 😫 We will reuse the timber etc once the static is no longer needed

Our home here in Alaska was done that same way with Red Cedar, but straight on both sides I actually like the way you did it with squiggly lines 😆 may be that way on the cabin thanks for the idea 💡 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

It's such a great initiative to get the existing buildings back in to use. Although time consuming and expensive. Your static upgrade is amazing and of course very necessary as storm after storm lines up in the north Atlantic. Home Safety 🛟

Yes we need the base to be safe, warm, dry & secure. The kids are happy here and it's great not having to rent somewhere. Plus, I get to wake up to our beautiful place every day.

I’m always one to plan ahead, and so if that were my property and if people were asking me “Why are you wasting all that time on cladding and insulating the static?” I would just say maybe someday that static could be a grandma home, or a home for one of your kids when they come of age, or a place for friends from England to stay if they come over for a visit! And hey, if times got tough, worst case scenario is you could rent it out to someone and have a monthly income off it in a pinch? 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s definitely not a waste of time or resources, and it’s looking absolutely beautiful with the wood siding on it! I bet it’s a lot warmer in there as well thanks to the insulation as well! 😊💚

Very true. We had to do it as we couldn't work on the cottage at that point and trust me the caravan was freezing. Its made a big difference inside.

Oh yes, Sam always said he would have built a container home if we hadn't moved to Ireland. Cladding just makes everything look better & more in-keeping with the surroundings. 👍
