The foundation of all health is a good nutritional program, and that statement is especially true with an insulin resistant or laminitic horse. The important thing to remember when treating laminitis with natural medicine is to approach each case individually. When managed correctly, with patience and attention to detail, most chronic horses can return to reasonable work. Cure or return to work may not occur with laminitis cases secondary to Cushing’s Disease or those with severe damage to the coffin bone. These cases, however, can often be managed and kept relatively comfortable without the use of drugs.
