I'm from Guatemala and I've to admit that I felt excited when you mentioned us, haha. When Xetulul opened, this roller coaster was a huge thing, but now that time has passed it gets rough and rough, I have to push my head backward with strength to not have a bad headache. Still, it has a nice layout and give the park a "world class" feeling. Hope you come one day to Guatemala and check out our theme parks and water parks!

as a brazilian this model is so fascinating to me, as hopi hari purchased one of these which was about to be built and would have been the standout coaster in the country but then an accident happened and it got shipped away, even though the track was physically there and groundwork had already started ;-; our 8i monte makaya also was closed with its park a few years earlier and it's yet to be rebuilt in a new location! that's why this ride model is so fascinating for brazilians, and i can't wait to try one of these someday. hopefully in brazil!!
@DaveR1974Grows
@DaveR1974Grows 8 ай бұрын
It turns out that it wasn't an accident. Hopi Hari had financial issues after they received the ride, and could not afford to build it. That ride was eventually sold to Movie Animation Park Studios in Malaysia (now closed), but was not built, and was held in storage. It was finally sold to Flamingo Land in the UK, and opened as Sik, which is reviewed here.

The ironic part is that Sik was the first of the Updated 10 inversion coasters, even though it open last year. See Sik was meant for Hopi Hari in Brazil around 2012. However, due to financial issues, Hopi Hari shipped Sik to a park in Malaysia. But that park also faced financial issues and sold it to Flamingo Land.

I got to ride collosus this summer! As an american that doesnt see inversion terribly much, I thought the ride was really solid! Those restraints and the age of the steel take it down a few points but nothing beats the silly laughing during the heartline rolls.

I've only done Colossus but I actually really enjoy the quad-heartline rolls! My favourite part of the ride is probably the vertical loop but I still enjoy the rest of it! And I agree, I don't find it to be a particularly rough ride, especially if you sit further forward and keep your head forward. The legroom on Colossus' trains does kinda suck though.

Ive ridden both Sik and Collosus several times, and i have to say, Sik is streets ahead. I love inversions, so having 10 of them is great. The quadruple heartline with lapbars is terrifying and i love it! And Sik was so smooth, i didn't detect any rattle - unlike The Smiler, which i love, but is a proper painful headbanger.

I got to do Altair at Cinecitta World in Italy last year, and I thought it was supremely underrated, mainly cause this model doesn't get talked about much due to it not being in North America. I thought this model was great, smooth, good intensity, and I personally loved the quadruple heartline roll at the end for the hangtime.

One thing maybe its missing is about the layout. Even though Colossus was the first 10 inversion coaster, the prototype and layout base for the model was Monte Makaya, which held the record with Dragon Khan. The only new thing Colossus came up with was a new set of trains and mirrored heartline rolls to increase 2 inversions to the layout

For a park that wants a coaster really focused on inversions, I think it's honestly fine. Smiler has 14 and it doesn't mix up other things either and nobody complains about that so it doesn't seem right to say its to much. The Intamin 10 inversion coaster is designed for inversions, not airtime or other things.
@TheJudoJoker

Smiler definitely mixes things up more than the 10 inversion model. And it paces out the inversions better and doesn't have anything as nauseating as 4 back slow paced heartline roles.

Personally I've been lucky enough to get to ride colossus twice, once in the front row and then again in row 11. It's definitely true that being closer to the front greatly reduces the roughness of the ride, as when I rode in front row, I thought the ride was immensely enjoyable and the cobra roll being my favourite element, however when I went back about 3 months later and rode in the back row, I was honestly surprised as to how rough it was, and I got off with my ears hurting from how much they'd hit against the sides, however interestingly the quadruple heartline rolls were actually my favourite part of the ride my second time. Out of all the elements, since they were a very repetitive motion, they were much smoother than everything else, and with the over the shoulder restraints keeping me in place, it was a really enjoyable sensation going upside down like that 4 times in a row, and even though I can agree that they probably were a slight gimmick, I think the quadruple heartline rolls are currently one of the best parts of the entire ride.

I did experience Colossus at Thorpe park back in 2018 as well, certainly a very dizzying experience. You gotta make sure you drink lots of water before riding something like this so you don't get headaches and get good oxygen circulation in your blood. Also this is just a fun fact but Sik is actuallly the oldest of the revised models of this ride. It was originally supposed to open way back in 2012 in Brazil at Hopi Hari but the park ran into financial difficulties and didn't have enough money to actually assemble the ride after it had been delivered. After that it was mothballed around and sold to a failed theme park in Malaysia where it was also never assembled, until it was put up for sale AGAIN and Flamingo land managed to buy it. Presumably at a big discount. I wonder if the one in Turkey for the failed Wonderland Eurasia will experience a similar fate, but so far I've yet to see the rides from it be put up for sale.

Only ridden colossus but I find it really underrated. I get why some people hate it because it's rough and dizzying but it is bearable. Though it is my worst intamin coaster, it doesn't stop it from being in my top ten rollercoasters. Not as good as dragon's fury at Chessington world of adventures but better than storm chaser at Paultons park. By the way, colossus is rougher than saw for me and I find that of the big five coasters at Thorpe park colossus is better themed than stealth but worse than nemesis inferno. And colossus is the worst of the big five coasters at Thorpe park. With my thoughts, of the big coasters that I have ridden in the world this is the second worst. Better than oblivion at Alton towers but worse than nemesis inferno at Thorpe park. ( I just want them to give colossus lap bars).

I have been on the new 10 inversion model in Turkey and it is really, I absolutely mean really snappy. It is hauling through the rolls. When I compare the povs, colossus looks way slower than new version. I can imagine why the track has to be beefier. The vertical loop? Makes you lurch into your seat. Cobra rolls? rips you around. Corkscrews, you can feel your chest pop. Not even gonna talk about rolls you can't even process whats happening there, you are just looking at a blurry sky and ground mixture. I had back pain at the night after riding it and my face became yellow after 2 rides that I legitemately wanted to leave the park

I have ridden Altair at Cinecittà World, the one in Rome. It was a walk-on the whole day and got something like 3 or 4 rides, then got tired and went to the other better coaster of the park, Inferno. First of all, in the front row Altair is almost butter smooth, but in the back it has this nasty and constant vibration throughout the whole ride that's quite annoying. And in terms of layout, I found the first half to be pretty disappointing. The drop, loop, "airtime hill", cobra roll did absolutely nothing. Then in the second half it got a bit better, the corkscrews are quite snappy, and the consecutive heartline rolls have insane upside down airtime. But as you said, 5 is too much. It becomes uncomfortable with a lap bar, and that's not something you hear quite often when talking about restraints🤔

When I did my coaster climb on Colossus earlier this year, they mentioned that the reason the final heartline roll was designed to go the opposite way to the quadruple heartline rolls was to undo some of the dizziness that the quadruple heartline rolls caused on riders. That and sitting on the brakerun for 3 hours, whilst the ride ops struggle to dispatch the badly designed trains because no one ever fits, certainly help to get rid of the dizziness before you get off!

Flamingo Land is my local park, so I've had a good few marathons on Sik from time to time. Once you get the hang of how to sit in the seat with the lap bar, the heartline rolls stop being uncomfortable and they're really enjoyable. If you sit very slightly forward (Not enough to be trying to get airtime) the lap bar sits much more in the crease between your legs and torso and it's a better experience overall.

They should have extended the run into the final turn and remove two of the four consecetive heartline rolls with an airtime hill and a vertical loop, and then after the final turn have an additional heartline roll for the run into the station. Not sure if the train would have enough speed to do this, but it would work much better than 4 heartline rolls in a row and still be able to boast about 10 inversions (although I don't think that really means much anymore since if you just want inversions the smiler has 14).

I rode Colossus in 2002 (opening year). It was an off-peak day, so I was able to ride 6 times. I remember the lift hill being 2 speeds, starting slow until the train was out the station, before changing to a faster speed. Did they change that, or is Sik just even faster? At the time, I really enjoyed Colossus, but I hated the OTSRs. Why? When taking the Heartline Rolls at such a slow pace (compared to what I have seen from Sik), my rear bumper (to put it politely) was leaving the seat, and my shoulders just banged off them, and left me with some serious bruising.

Genuinely think Sik is a better ride than the Smiler. I agree, the heartline rolls are weakest part, but they're still fun. Remember, most people won't ride again and again, most people are one and done, so having four rolls is fine. Absolutely agree the double corkscrews are great, they're surprisingly forceful too.

Those rides, new versions, are really, I absolutely mean really, snappy. The vertical loop, made my neck forcefully tilt forwards and come down like when you have a whiplash even when I tried to keep my head as back as it can be. Cobra rolls, it shoots you into the sky, snaps you around and pins you back down. Corkscrews, they actually gently flip you upside down but just right as you come to the top of it there is this sudden whip mixed with positive G's that makes you feel like someone is tryna get you off the train like how you get someone out of their car in GTA games. The quadrouple rolls, I don't even know what happened there I just remember entering there then idk what happened, I was at the middle of the shallow turn when I could finally process whats going on. Then the last one just felt like my neck has popped out, I can imagine if that happened 4 times a few seconds ago. I could only ride twice before my face became yellow. I had back pain that night. It was my first non family coaster, I was a child back then. I remember that in the next year of that summer we went to Land of Legends and I rode the hyper coaster there thinking that 10 inversion is how your average coaster feels and I was like: is this a childrens ride? I get more G's in the bus than this

I disagree strongly about those 4 Heartline-rolls. That element is absolutly one of the best and most intense moments on any coaster for me and probably my 2nd or 3rd favourite inversion.

The most inversions I've actually ridden is Dragon Khan (8 inversions, and they're punchy early B&M inversions) at PortAventura, and maybe I'm getting old, but I kind of felt like that getting off of it. Thought "You know, I'd have liked that more if it had slightly fewer inversions. 6 would be good." And since B&M never made another coaster with more than 7 inversions, maybe they thought so too.

Great video. I've ridden both this coaster with sik only last year. I agree that the four rolls is too much. Sik is the superior coaster simply because the more modern train and lap bars. My opinion is all lap bars on all coasters needs to be outlawed

Grew up with Collosus... it's very very shakey indeed.. you're absolutely right.. I agree with everythign you said, you made me laugh to when you said, Saw next door is legitimately rough.. you got that right. Saw is a serious headshaking ride.. one of my favourites in the world though, next to duelling dragons, hulk, montu and kumba.

The first time I went to Thorpe Park, I went on this ride without knowing the number of inversions. Those 4 heartline rolls back to back blew my mind as I wasn't expecting it. Subsequent rides were no where near as good unfortunately so I now try to look as little as possible at ride stats until I have ridden it.

I think I could enjoy Sik if the lap bars were a bit wider. I'm a bigger guy, so the way the lapbar fit me, it ends up pushing on my rhighs in a way that gets quite painful during those heartline rolls. It's perfectly fine the rest of the ride. I think this because I don't have this issue on the jojo roll from Ride to Happiness, which also just has lap bars, but Mack's lap bars are wider, so they distribute the pressure more evenly.

Haven't ridden Sik YET, but Colossus is fine. Went on it once and it wasn't headbangy or particularly uncomfy, although the restraints and trains are a little tight. Controversial but I think it was more uncomfortable than SAW!!

I've ridden Collosus more times than I can count and have to say.. I've never found it that rough however, the trains and restraints are horrible! I'm only 5ft 11 and average build but can't sit in the back of a car due to not even being able to crawl under the restraints to get to a seat and then if I do I have no leg room! The queue can take a very long time on busy days when there's people bigger than me who physically can not fit into the seats they've been allocated! so they have to be removed from the car, moved to queue for another row, more people brought in from the airgates and repeat the pre-launch checks.... I've seen this happen 5 times in a row!! Yes I agree that the 4 inversions are a bit much but I still enjoy the ride overall! Only change I would make are those cars / restraints!

It’s bad enough when a coaster has a commercial sponsor, but when the coaster is actually named for a commercial product (e.g., Sik) I find it insulting. I’m already paying to get into a park. I’m not paying to be subjected to more commercials.

To be honest, I think Colossus rides a little bit like a shopping trolley simply because of how bulky the restraints are causing me to head bash on some of the elements. Albeit, If I rode Sik or Altair, those 4 inversions would be too much as it’s way too whippy and fast despite being much more of a newer and smoother coaster than Colossus.
