I liked that part about materialism and Tolkien. It reminded me of Augustine, writing that until his interaction with the platonic/neoplatonic thought, he could not conceive of the immaterial.

In my experience Plato is very helpful for escaping materialist tendencies in my thinking

Hm now I understand why I am a nature-loving hippie😆 .... this was a realy good conversation, I have the impression that christians oftentimes miss this aspect of creation, as being an icon or a manifestation of God's activity and love, an icon so to say pointing to the transcendent creator
