I will say it again, I worked at a game company back in the early 2000's that Tommy did sound for, and we all dreaded when he came in. The main boss liked him (I guess) but the rest of us just thought he was an over confident annoying as all hell dork. I remember having conversations about how anyone could be that energetically annoying while NOT doing drugs. He would just bust into offices and act like he was some superstar.... we just wanted him to leave. OH, and the Ferrari... back then he had a White Lamborghini... but it was a Fiero with a Kit on it. I can clearly remember this one time he brought it over and kept announcing that be brought the lambo... well we looked out the window and saw it.. and one of the guys yelled.. That looks kinda odd... isnt that a KitCar? Hahah... Well he quickly jumped away from the window and dodged the question. We never saw the lambo again.. or at least he never mentioned it. I mean, he used to wear 2 watches... Just hoping that someone would ask him why. And if you did... he would jump into this stance and say "Ive got TOO much time on my hands!!" I dont want to say I am happy that he failed.... I mean he never did anything purposefully malicious to me or really anyone I knew at that time. However the idea of buying anything more valuable than GUM from him was a hard pass. I had conversations with people through this "Amico Adventure" and we all would just laugh and comment on how we didnt know when.. but a big catastrophe had to be on the way. Tommy had convinced himself that he was a Musician, Artist, Business Man, I mean you name it and he was it. As far as we could tell, all tommy had to do was be in the room where something was being discussed and he automatically would claim to be an expert in that field. Just listen to him talk about Earthworm Jim, he tries to claim they asked him about design on that... I mean PLEASE!!!! He would follow Mr. Perry around like a sick puppy... and would spout out ideas that everyone would just ignore. If we could throw a muzzle on him we would have. I am just hoping he goes away.. and any of the dimwits that followed him need to wake up... and yeah I am looking at you Alvarado.

While Tommy's own greed destroyed him financially, it's pretty fitting to me that it was the new media formats (ones he never entirely understood) that did in his reputation. Tallarico was someone obsessed with a system from the late 70s/early 80s, living off stolen glory for his "work" in the 90s, and was last even relevant to most people for a show in the early 00s. In more ways than one he was living in the past and so much of his behavior reflected someone who couldn't or wouldn't understand that his BS wasn't going to work anymore. He had no defense against the CUPodcast exposing his deception with Amico and likely never expected the OOF video would effectively turn him into a joke to the broader public. Tommy constantly seemed to believe it was 1995 and that he could keep living the dream of being a pseudo rockstar in gaming. it's pretty obvious 2024 is giving him a very harsh dose of reality.

I love how Tommy is sitting on a stacked set of chairs rather than just 1 chair like a normal human. The Napoleon Complex is so real.

This thing really is the Frankenstein's Monster of retro gaming imo. Except instead of the villagers being angry and scared they don't care as the monster mutters nonsense to itself about modern gaming being too complex or needing a certain kind of remote. 14:25 I've been playing Terraria for over a decade and they're still updating it. Every single update, they say: this is the last one, and they have been doing that for I don't even know how long now. I haven't played for a year or two, but I'm itching to go back to it. Such a fun game with a group of people. As someone who would spent hours upon hours organizing loot in the game, when they increased the number for certain items that can be stacked into chests from 99 to 999, I cannot thank them enough, they even have a way to automatically stack items in a chest that you're nearby, which is one of the coolest things I've ever seen added to a game. Imagine you have an entire inventory of assorted stuff, and you know that you have stacks of them somewhere and you just want to get back to playing. Well, now you can auto stack them so items go from your inventory to the chest they should be in. Yet another addition that saved me dozens of hours. I love that game so damn much!

When Ian started to talk about games on steam that still get updates... makes me think about Stardew Valley and Terraria the most. Terria came out 2011 I think with a price of $10 and still, to this day, gets FREE huge Updates with tons of new stuff. Its insane.

Ian is so much more easy going and laid back compared to when the podcast first started. It's been a nice character arc.

Researching Tommy’s fake career is much more interesting than the Amico. Tommy is literally a music producer which is fine if he gave proper credit instead of hogging it for himself. As far as we can tell during his entire 92-2010 career he never composed a single song. And video games live is him air guitaring to tracks vertexguy recorded for him way back in 2007 so it is just w continuation of that behavior. The guy is a total parasite.

The PS5 is nearing its end, the Nintendo Switch is getting a successor soon, the Steam Deck OLED had just been released, Analogue had made 2 consoles made already (Analogue Duo and Analogue Pocket), the Polymega had released its console and had made 5 modules for that already (NES, Super NES, Genesis, Turbo Grafx-16, and N64), EverCade Vs., and its sister systems the Hyper Mega Tech is already released, PlayDate is out, the PiePacker is dead, Atari is making its third system now, AYA Neo, GPD, AYN Odin, Anbernic, Retroid, PowKiddy, and ASUS all had made multiple handhelds of the portable PC/Androids/Linux handhelds, the PS5 Pro is coming, and still the Intellivision Amico is nowhere to be seen. This thing is long dead. It's over, Amico is no more. It's just an app at this point and a really crappy one at that.

How large is this market? This seems niche, wihin a niche, within a niche, within a niche...

I mean, there _is_ a way that the controller could make sense and work out as a thing. First off: license it out as a "standard" of sorts. Allow third parties to manufacture their own versions of it, while paying money for the license to do this. You'd make your own "official" version and charge more money for it. Which people will pay more money to get the "official version" even in cases where the official version is crap compared to third party offerings Second off: work it as an update on an iPod type deal. Have it so you _can_ have smaller games on it. Have it so you can play media files on it, or stream stuff off a wifi connection. Focus on how "physical media" is returning, and be all, "you can play MP3s/Flacc" on it. Include ways to go over images, movies and sound files locally in a local preview manner Third off: have it work with smart televisions "cast screen" functionalities. Have it so that via this device, you can store your log ins to streaming services on this small device, and have it tell the smart television to play your streaming services. You could watch those things on the device itself... or you know, control a larger television with the device Fourth off: have it able to register as a storage device for people's smart phones. Essentially have it so that instead of throwing stuff into the cloud, you can just throw it onto the Amico Controller. Make use of it, as part of a Sneaker Net style way of transferring files--which, honestly, is still a superior way to move data around Fifth off: have it so that it has slots for _Two_ MicroSD cards. Most other systems only have one MicroSD Card. Label one "Primary" and the other "Secondary". It would have internal storage--but the big focus would be the _two_ MicroSD Card slots on the device. If one card is in the Secondary and none in the Primary have it show up as "?Primary?" to have it not confuse programs too much, but also let the user know it will show up as Secondary as soon as another MicroSD card is inserted. Heck, this alone would be useful for duplicating MicroSD cards (or moving to a larger MicroSD card) Sixth off: Microphone, RGB and Rumble would be on it, for when it interacts with various games Seventh off: start working to have it as an optional set of controls in games, and have it be something various games can advertise as being something the game can use. Heck, have marketting pay developers to include a screen in the game to say it is compatible with the Amico Controller Eighth off: universal remote control app. Not because you give a crap about that... but just have it be in the default apps on the system Ninth off: oh right, never explicitly say it: but a couple of default apps and default games. Something that can be associated with it like how Minesweeper is associated with Windows and/or Snake is associated with Nokia Phones (and TuxKart with Linux?) -=- I mean, it isn't impossible for this to work out. I mean, everybody is back to wearing wrist watches again (though in the form of smart watches). It just needs to give people a reason to be used Why would people want to buy this remote, without a system associated with it? There is a reason why people will buy XBox X|S controllers without owning a Series-X or Series-S console. There is reason to purchase a WiiMote, even though most people will think you are silly, despite the WiiMote still being a really really neato and super keen device that is really underrated. Give it some stuff around it, to justify owning it Which, honestly, shouldn't really be that hard. Sure, yes, you will be deviating from "game console controller" a little bit... but they kind of were doing that from the start
