Do you love or loathe decluttering? (Because I actually love it, honestly throw me in a hoarders house and I’ll get to work! haha!) Anyway, this episode includes a list of things to declutter from your wardrobe, as well as what to start adding to your wishlist as you are decluttering! Great episode Emily! I declutter every season but for the last couple of years, I have less and less to donate or sell because of my intentional purchases. However, I recently decluttered styles that no longer fit my age and lifestyle. Can't wait to see the Canadian brand item you purchased! 😉Hugs from Canada! 🥰

I now just put things in a crate at the top of my wardrobe. I wait atleast 6 months before getting rid of clothes. We often like to revisit clothes as our lives change.

I find your videos very helpful but I wonder - have you got any tips on how to declutter clothes when you like everything you own? I'm at this awkward stage where I really like what I have, just wish there was less of it and I struggle to curate. I know this is totally a first world problem, but any tips on this would be so welcome x

i do a capsule wardrobe, but instead of seasonally i change it when i want sonething different. i changed my wardrobe in february, march and April, but kept it the Same since, because i'm very happy about it stuff i don't Use and want right now, is in boxes at the top of my wardrobe

Hey! I would suggest trying 2 things - the box storage method and mini capsule wardrobes. (1) If there are any items you like a little less than others, try storing them away in a box for a while, and then see if you miss them and how you feel about them when you return to the box a few months later. Also try storing away off season items to free up some space if you don’t already. (2) And to create mini capsule wardrobes within the season you are in. You can store away items you’re not using that season, and get them out the following year to change your capsule around. I hope this is helpful! 🩷 xoxo

How much of it do you actually use? You could try the experiment of turning your hangers around at the beginning of a season, and then turning them back to "normal" when you actually use something. At the end of the season (or 2 or 3), you'll have a pretty good sense of what is useful to you. But what about the rest? Maybe you like it, but there's some reason you didn't use it over that 3 or 6 or 9 month period. Why not? Is it a solvable problem (piece can be tailored, or you need to pair it with things differently, etc) or will you really never reach for that item? If you don't actually want to get rid of those pieces yet, can you store them separately to see if you'd actually miss them? And then again, check the storage in 6 more months. Do you feel like you can get rid of any of it now?

I'd say if genuinely like what you have don't declutter or at least not yet. Give youself a decent amout of time to play dress up and put together a few outfits you love for whatever you actually do in your life, then photograph yourself and save to a folder on your phone so you always know what to wear for any given activity. That way you won't feel overwhelmed and if there are items that don't make the cut maybe you don't need.

I am a shocker at decluttering... I have a few items that I've had for decades that I can't bring myself to declutter but really should. I only wear them around home or to sleep in now...I'm not good at letting go 😆😉💖 Loved this video, Emily. Thank you 💗

Have you read the Wear It Well video she’s referenced before? I’m in it now and finding those clear outs MUCH easier to make. She has you visualize your future self (as in tomorrow or next week future, having given this thought… not like 5 or 10 years) and when you come back to the item after getting a little clarity, it may be easier to see right away - this ideal me is not interested in this item. Or maybe she loves it but would wear it with a skirt instead of jeans or something!

Just de cluttered a beautiful vintage wool (lined) plaid skirt that’s very scratchy. 😔 The De Clutter Flow Chart looks like an excellent tool! Thank you! P.S. Please show us how to style silver (or any color) ballet flats.

I am enjoying your series so much. When I started, I invested in a decent full length mirror so I could see how my shoes look with an outfit. I had been using the mirror in the living room but that's not very practical.

So glad you’re enjoying it! Such a good idea having a full length mirror, makes all the difference - do you find that it’s been helpful, even though it’s disconnected from the bedroom when you get dressed? Xo❤

Very helpful thanks Emily. I’d love to see a vlog-style video sometime where you take us shopping with you as you make new purchases - whether that’s in stores or charity shops - to show us what sort of stores you like and how you try on and decide what clothes to buy. Just a suggestion 😊

Emily, I am with you on the love of decluttering!👍. There is nothing better than a small wardrobe of things you actually wear and suit your current lifestyle. The spillover of successful closet declutters can have a positive influence on your whole house! It is so freeing to let go of household items you no longer use or love! I enjoy your practical content so much Emily! Greeting from Winnipeg, Canada🇨🇦

Thanks as always -- so much good sense for managing the wardrobe. Can you suggest for me how to find styles (proportions, basic shapes, not specific items) to suit my size? I'm petite and a weightlifter, so rather sturdy and muscular, not slim and gamine. I have strong preference for simple lines, and for wearing sleeveless tops or dresses when possible.
@EmilyElizabethMay
@EmilyElizabethMay 9 күн бұрын
You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed this 🩷 It’s hard to say without really being able to see you and understand your proportions. But I would start by asking you what your favourite area of your body is and if you like to show that off in anyway? And then I would ask if your shoulders and hips are similar width or if either are wider than the other? Do you have a defined waistline or are you more straight up and down? Do you know if your torso is short, average or long? Have you experimented with different necklines before? (Mock neck, crew neck, V neck, scoop neck - and do you have a preference here already?) Have you experimented with different Jean/trouser shapes yet? (High, mid, low rise - wide, skinny, tapered leg - and do you have a preference here yet?) Answers to these questions would help to the bottom of things a little more 🩷
@melaniemcneil407
@melaniemcneil407 9 күн бұрын
@@EmilyElizabethMay thanks for your thoughtful reply. I'm fairly rectangular but with a real waistline, short about the waist but "average" rise (not petite there). Short legs, long arms (good for deadlifts!). I love my shoulders and prefer sleeveless tops. V-neck is best neckline. Slacks and jeans work well straight or slightly wide, mid-rise. So I guess I know quite a bit about what lines I like. I have a hard time finding pix of it (esp on shorter women) though, so I can change things up a bit with more confidence. THanks again.

Love your information and your voice and accent but I have a hard time watching for long with the cut up editing. I have no idea how the videos are created and how the editing works but when it is chopped up, my eyes get jittery and the broken speech bothers my ears. I don't know how else to explain it) Is it possible to create them in a smoother flow? Thank you for sharing your information!

Hi lovely. I’ve had a few comments like this recently, and I think I rushed my recent videos when editing them as I was trying to get them out quickly before going on holiday. So I am definitely looking to improve on this for future videos and it’s been noted! 🥰🙏 thank you so much for the feedback 🩷 I also take a lot of pauses between words when I’m thinking of what to say and I think as I’ve edited those pauses out it’s become quite jittery xoxo
