This dude is the reason i fell in love with model trains and this is the first video i watched

Memories, oh memories. This was one of the first YT videos that I ever watched, way back in 2011-13-ish

This very set was my inspiration to expand my layout from a small loop to a larger properly detailed one. The smooth livery especially gave me nostalgia as a child that I just don't feel with the new Avanti livery we have now.

To ic82, This was one of the first KZfaq videos I ever saw and you should be proud it was one of yours.

Omg I remember watching this when I was younger about 6-7 years old and has always gotten to my imagination with having one of these expensive trains back 12 years ago, and I stg I want to go back to these times :(

when i was little the very first real vehicle other than i car was an american BNSF freight train parked right outside my house. since then i have been in love with any sort of vehicle that runs on rails. i have some model trains but not the best type of track. when i saw the night mail review i started watching more and more of your videos. keep on going Intercity82

Yes I agree, but I think you have to give credit where credit's due. Hornby chase after a slightly broader range of customer than Bachmann. 99% of everyone I know into trains, got into trains via a Hornby train set - not a Bachmann one. Without getting into the hobby in the first place, there would be very few customers for Bachmann, or any of the other makes too. I started with Hornby, as did countless millions of others, and added Bachmann to the collection when I was old enough.

Man, this gives so much memories.

@RCProductionable - just pop the casing off. It won't snap so long as you're careful.

@HevyTH1 - my Pendolino was DCC fitted so I never had to install the chip. All I can tell you is that a chip is needed in both ends, and it has to be an 8 PIN chip like the R8249 from Hornby.

@roden81 - a 9 car set would require a very long station on my proper layout, and I don't want a station that long. So it'll probably stay as 6.

@Trainmaster111 - it has a connection for the track, a connection for accessories and a socket for the power cable.

@legoboy70 - I do have one DCC sound fitted loco and will be doing a video on her soon but she has been customed chipped. The best way when it comes to realistic sound :)

I am so going to get my dad to buy me this! I already have a Trans pennine Express and a cross country and a virgin Voyager and I need a virgin for my set! Thank you for posting this!! 😁

@capmodesty - that video is still coming - indeed there are two now, one more complicated than the other. They are in a queue (which is about 40 videos big) but I've stopped making new ones until this queue is down to nothing. So won't be long.

@Thegiaxio - glad you liked the video! Actually, the Eurostar is not as high quality as the Pendolino and the cab doesn't even have a floor in it. Plus it runs exclusively between London and the continent - no where near where I plan to base my layout on.

@Mamodman - there are no plans to get the Eurostar - but a user called Streamlinedtrains has reviewed it

@TheMoonWentBoom - this is only a temp layout - a proper one is on its way

I am fine with just my one Pendolino for now.

I Like this train, I see them all the time going from Stoke station to Crewe these and DMUs.

just a note: I'm not sure if the regular pendolino is the same, but I had the Alstom livery (390104) set and it doesn't have seats :(

@Whizzer1 - yeah, demand was high for me to review it - so I did

@sammyjammywammy - The DCC-ready version of this train needs a chip in each end. Both chips would need to be 8-pin chips. You can get basic ones that only control lights and not a motor, but in my experience I have found such chips to be more expensive than a fully functioning one. So you might as well just buy 2 basic Hornby ones for about £10 each and the job is done.

I had this then sold it for the Alstom pendolino train set. I love the Alstom branding.

@InterCity82 , If you look up "Railworks Pendolino", you'll see Railworks train simulator videos, many videos of Pendolinos aren't in the Virgin livery. The Pendolinos wear fictional liveries suchs as GNER, InterCity Swallow, and the original 1997 Virgin livery. This is where I got the inspiration for an 00 Scale InterCity Pendolinos.

@2009Buzza - I think the APT in the 80s used a system like that but this model uses a much simpler method, where the bogie, as it turns, basically forces the body of the coach to roll to one side slightly.

If you get a second hand dummy unit and fit a coupler to the front you can do the pendolino being dragged by the thunderbird like you see on the north wales coast to holyhead.

There are two Pendolino sets available. One is DC and one is DCC. If you get the DC one, you can buy two DCC chips to make it DCC when you want to. If you buy the DCC one then it means they have already put the DCC chips in at the factory and you don't have to do a thing.

You should do a running session. That would be really cool with all of your locos going round.

@Mrlego2011 - I'm sorry but right now my railway is in bits (re-decorating) and so I couldn't review it even if I wanted to or had to. The video on the Voyager won't be up for some weeks yet due to how many other videos I've got to get done first. But someone else may have done one?

My only train is the Virgin pendolino, which has the Alstom livery! I have seen it tilt, yes it does seem quite subtle! (did i spell that right)

ic82 you should get the new 2014/15 pendolino DC set the detail is outstanding the detail on the new hornby pendolino beats any bachmann train easily also the new hornby pendolino has a new livery with the alstom fiat badge on the front

Awesome model of the Class 390. I wish Hornby would do one in a fictional Intercity Swallow livery. That would be sexy! (^_^)

@bluerapier1 - to go digital you need DCC equipped trains and a DCC controller. The BEST way to start is to buy a Hornby DIGITAL set - that will give you everything you need to get going.

@TheStuntManAlf - there is no title for it yet, not until it is uploaded but it'll obviously have 'layout' in the title

@Virgintrainsuk - the normal lenght of a railway is hundreds of miles long too! I'm fed up of people that are obsessed with having the scale equivalent of the right number of cars. If I had all 9, the nose would be chasing the tail. Even on a big layout, it would look kinda silly to see something soooooo big going round. And the station would have to be sooooo long that it would take up tons of space, so all you'd have is one giant station and a bit of grass. I'm perfectly happy with 6 units.

@SmashBangCrash - this set comes in 2 'flavours'. DC and DCC. Run the DC one on DC track and the DCC one on DCC track. Simple.

@Whizzer1 - possibly not. That would require a HUGE station and I don't really want a station that long. But who knows :) For now I'm very happy with it being a 6 car set.

one question... how do you couple the 56 up when it breaks down? XD

@TheIntercityhst - if the train is DCC ready then removing the chip will be easy, and then it'll be DC again. But if the train wasn't DCC ready then the person will have soldered wires to wires, making it much more difficult to 'un-DCC'. It's best to leave DCC trains as DCC and just run them on a DCC layout. If you see a train you want that's DCC only and you don't have DCC, then you could always buy it and wait until you have a DCC controller.

@Xantec - it's been a long time since I've had to open this train up actually - but the motor is definitely in one of the ends, either above the lead or trailing bogie.

i've noticed that Hornby haven't got the pendolino accurate enough with the first class cuz it says first class above the window but doesn't have a number one in between the windows that are towards the ends on each first class coaches in which the real pendolino does
