Red sapphires are called Rubies.

Correctly, corundum with trace elements of iron and titanium making it appear blue are called sapphires. Corundum with trace element of chromium are red and called rubies. Corundum comes in many other colors depending on the trace elements in the crystal and are known as fancy sapphires.

@@dawit3135 Yes. Ruby and sapphire are varieties of corundum. Accordingly, when it is bright red corundum in color it is called "ruby." When it is blue corundum it is called "sapphire." When colorless corundum it is called a "white sapphire." Gem-quality corundum of any other color is called "fancy sapphire."

Sorry to be picky, but there is such a thing as a red sapphire. The difference is that they are not coloured by iron oxide but by a different compound, chrome or something. I prefer them to rubies, myself.

Correct, red sapphires get their colour from Chromium.

Actually, Chromium is what makes Corundum red for Ruby while Iron Oxide in the form of Hematite gives Corundum it's reddish orange color for Red Sapphire. Some Sapphires from the Winza region of Tanzania can be reddish orange giving them the name, Winza Sapphire. Although some Winza Sapphires can be purple, fuchsia, or lavender.

Anciently sappire was synonymous with lapis lazuli. So the tablets Moses brought down from the mountain where not corundum but lapis.

😂you obviously don’t know that sapphire also comes from Queensland and New South Wales border in Australia. The biggest are sitting in the Smithsonian museum called the presidents heads. And have been mined for over a 100 years.
