Great video thanks! I've had the 166xl for many yrs and haven't used it the last 10yrs. In all this time I've never seen a video on it til now😊

lb for lb the dbx 266 xl is a mastering compressor, ideal for busing bass mixes. the side chain gate on the 266xl is very good. the nearest competitor is the alesis 3630 which is also acceptable, but the 266xl smooths the bass like a high end unit, very good compressor

Good video, I liked that you put in a graphical representation of the audio when compressed, it helps me visualize how it works since my ears aren't that well trained yet.

@triclone123 I'm glad it helped. The manual for this box is not detailed enough, for sure. :) JC

@austin1o5 The input is looking for line level so I'm not sure if you could plug a guitar straight into it. This unit is more for the full mix. :) JC

Great video many thanks !!
@EzeeLinux13 жыл бұрын
@cacaw8 It could work that way as long as you can feed the dbx line level for input, sure. :) JC
@EzeeLinux13 жыл бұрын
@Antilevitation It takes line level input so you can't just plug the guitar right into the dbx. However, you could compress the out put from the amp (line level) and then you'd get a more consistent level. :) JC

I really appreciate your precise instruction on this particular unit and am actually integrating what you've offered here. Please set me straight on the limiter comment if need be. I just don't see it integrated into this model. Thanks much!

@byrlogos I'm glad the video helped. I wonder why dbx left a power switch out of the design. No power switch is fine for a radio station or pro studio where you never power anything down but it makes using this in a home studio a bit awkward. :) JC

Get a power conditioner it's safer for your Equipment Sir and you get a switch !
@Antilevitation13 жыл бұрын
@BadEditPro I was more thinking about using it for the gate feature :) but i read a lot of negative things about this one on forums, so i think i'll continue my search for a while. Thanks for your help anyhow!
@EzeeLinux13 жыл бұрын
@Antilevitation You could do that as long as the peddle operate at line level to feed the amp. I think, though, you'd be better off getting a compressor designed to work as an effect in the chain. :) JC
@EzeeLinux13 жыл бұрын
@akarc24 It's sort of like comparing apples to oranges. The DBX is made to use an analog audio chain. The quality is very good but if you're working in digital it's best to stay in digital so the virtual compressor is best there. :) JC

@DuskY1991 Sure, you can put in the line out of the mixer and it will ride the gain going into the computer. It will go anywhere you like... :) JC
@Claws7811 жыл бұрын
If you set the ratio to infinite to 1 you will have a limiter. The ratio is the amount of input added to get one db of additional output. 3 to 1 would be 3 db of additional input with 1 db of added output. Infinite to one will limit the output no matter how much input is added.

Where is this fridays interface? I forgot it was on and missed it and I can't find it on the site. The latest one I can find is the one that was on thursday.

Hey there JC. Do you think this kind of comp/lim device would work in my studio where I have just a few mics and an audio interface/pre-amp (XLR/TRS input combined, with 48 pantom power) going into my computer? Because sometimes I like to record a relatively hot signal but cannot control the gain if a peak shoots through.
@Antilevitation13 жыл бұрын
@BadEditPro so i can't just put it at the end of my pedalchain? then it would be like this Guitar => pedals => dbx 266xl => amp

hola saludos de mexico como me ayudarias aponereste compresor pra grabacion podrias decirme te gardeceria muhco saludos
@av8er164812 жыл бұрын
I have found that this is NOT a compressor/ limiter but rather a compressor/ gate and lacks the limiter which is available on the 166XL.

Love this compressor. Finally hooked it up at my venue. They say compression is handy for "dynamic" singers. All engineers no that's PC for singers with poor mic technique. Yall are blocked now! Blocked blocked blocked. No more babysitting vocal channels for gnarly volume booms!

you dont need a power switch if you use a power bar

However, no switch is neat for dumbdumb know-it-all DJ's that come to clubs and wonder why their kits doesn't work... You have no idea how many times I got an "Emergency call" for a kit that doesn't work and in the end it was just the compressor's switch that was turned off :S ...
