Designer Samantha Farjo shares a bright and open family home that’s both functional and stylish. See how she combines smart pieces with color and texture for a warm, contemporary feel.
Samantha kept the main floor of this home bright and open for the young family. The kitchen is perfect for entertaining, complete with a statement backsplash, wraparound bar and banquette for casual meals. The family room extends from the kitchen, with a mod fireplace, concealed floor-to-ceiling storage units and cool lighting fixtures throughout. Interesting art and pops of color can be found in the multipurpose living room and dining area, while walls on the second floor are painted in a deep charcoal for a warm, cocooning effect.

I reeeeeeallllly love this space. nothing is cluttered and all decor seems to have purpose not really having too many knick knacks and most of all pet and children friendly while still being stylish!!!

I've always been a fan of neutral colored walls with pops of color in the artwork, accessories and furniture. How can this home be so elegant yet so family friendly and fun? That takes real talent. Those rugs!! LOVE IT!

This home is absolutely sophisticated, elegant yet practical and livable.I somehow felt something creative could have been done to bring in sunlight in some places like kitchen in forms of skylight or glass.I also felt different color below the trim would have added more color to the space. Just a suggestion though 😊

Ok. I think found my favorite design on H&H. The use of color in the living room is just unprecedented and the layout and use of space in the entire home was very well thought out. Coudous to the designer and her team.

Nicely done. I enjoyed the décor and colors. A lot of times when decorators talk color it usually has to do with adding paint color to the walls. I like how the main floor walls were left white and the furniture, art and textiles was the color.

It is a lovely home, a bit white for my personal taste for a large space, but really nicely done so it's not cold and everything feels very peaceful and balanced. Really love those green drapes in particular. It's given me fabulous ideas and supported some ideas I've got for a tiny type home we are planning on doing in a few years. Thank you so much. =) I am LOVING this channel.

Dining room is gorgeous....just the right amount of color. The photography art piece is gorgeous! Kitchen is absolutely stunning. And love the wrap around bar. Besides the green sofa, all other sofas and sectionals in the living room and family room...sorry, really bad choice in design and color. Great layout!

Naidu NSK not really the way to identify an area rug! Always start with the fibers: is it wool or synthetic. This separates rugs into two groupings. Also- not practical to search on Amazon based on a quick image on a video. Just saying:-) I’m well-versed in area rugs.

Why do Americans need two living rooms? They just call the second one a family room. No difference between them. In Germany, we have one living room and i don't see the purpose of a second one.

A family room is a family room while the living room is used for guests. It's more like ragged vs formal.

Just depends on your lifestyle, really. A living room is usually for more formal and intimate entertaining amongst adults while a family room is more casual, often bigger and better suited for large family use. I currently live alone in a small townhome that only has one room for sitting and entertaining, though my home was built in the 80s where it was less popular to have both a living and family room. "Bigger" used to be "better," but you'll find a lot of Americans are starting to downsize these days, likely an effect of our economy.

We have a big family. We have a gathering room and a living room. The gathering room is where the kids and their friend hang and play games. The living room is formal. My husband called it the Women's room,lol. Its not that we built it that way but we bought it like that. The US is a lot bigger then Germany so we can go bigger.

I’m not American and I’m single with no kids but my dream home must have both (my living room will be a formal room for guests only and the family room will be for me and any future family members to chill and relax - I’d want it to be very close to the kitchen).

This appears to be a sizeable home, but they put the desks in the family room and in front of the fireplace in the living room? I thought that looked awkward in both circumstances. Especially in front of the fireplace in the living room, seated with your back to the fireplace which, IMO, should be a focal point. Yeah, no. Do not like that. And REALLY didn't like those two mismatched pillows on the green tufted sofa. I thought it was jarring. And the one pillow is WAY to large for the sofa. I did like that you step down from the kitchen to the family room. But all that glass railing is going to be pretty smeary if they have younger kids. And apparently they don't read in bed, because those lamps serve no function but a glowing orb. Overall, meh. I often love House & Home tours, but then I seem lately to just as often not.
