So many “trends” coming in and out these days at a more rapid rate and most of that blame is on social media and all these pop up influencers setting rules. Interior design now feels like one big high school with the popular kids dictating what’s hot and what’s not. Guys, remember do what you want because everything Kristen and all these other designers are saying is “on trend” now in these videos, will be out of here next year or at the quick rate trends change now, the next few months. Then comes right back years later. Just save your money and design your space with that in mind.

Exactly. Kristen has good content for the most part but it’s videos like this from her and other KZfaq interior designers that fuel the poison. It’s sad. A lot of people don’t have a mind for themselves so they follow videos like this or things on Pinterest and instagram thinking what these designers say is law and lose countless amounts of dollars keeping up with these pointless trends until it’s too late.

Form follows function. What your kitchen looks like pales in comparison to what it is like to work in. I avoided shiny anything, especially countertops, because I want to see the food I am preparing more than the glare of polished granite. Dark, dark colors show dirt and smudges. My cabinets are not light or dark but somewhere in between, and I never tire of them. I have no backsplash, so I could alter the color anytime I have the whim.

Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included kzfaq.infoUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.

The hampster wheel of trends seems to be whirling faster & faster so it really is more important than ever to do what you find attractive and will enjoy living with for years and years. While I love to watch, I must say that average income families cannot afford to “follow” trends. For example, if subway tile with dark grout is out, “Oh, well,” a modest income family will continue to embrace it as is. The three rising trends mentioned, cannot even begin to afford “going there.” Love what you have, even if it isn’t hot and trendy, and care for it well. ❤

I'd be careful with "classic." 2000 era Tuscan kitchens were originally called "classic" because supposedly Italian Tuscan style is timeless. Then we were told white subway tiles kitchens are classic, and now they're dated. Ultimately, if a trend becomes too popular it will go out of style because everyone thinks they're an individual and don't want what others have.

@@kck9742 because you can afford to buy it. Or because it’s in your ideal neighborhood or price range. Maybe you love most aspects but not all. Maybe because older homes have better build quality than new ones. Lots of reasons to buy a historic or older home. You don’t have to keep everything about it. Also many older homes are severely damaged in the inside or don’t meet code. Old electrics require walls being removed. Leaking plumbing and windows. If it’s pristine condition or in a preserved neighborhood yea keep as much as possible. Otherwise it’s nice to preserve aspects but depending on your needs it’s up to the owner. We bought a historic home and kept most aspects but the bathrooms were way to small for 6’4 and 5’10 and bedrooms were ment for twin to maybe double beds. The kitchen was the smallest room. Interesting ideas but what stands out to me, who has been around for quite a few decades, is that everything new is what was old and out of date. From colors to materials to designs, we've seen it before, done it before, and moved onto something new before. The decade might change, but there is a basic reality to be considered: How you use a space, what you need to make it work for you, what you don't need, and how much work (money) you want to invest in it not only to install it but to maintain it. I recently watched another KZfaqr install loads of marble into a revamped kitchen. Beautiful yes, but I would bet money there was no thought about the amount of maintenance involved long term.

We are building a new home and when we told our draftsman we did not want completely open concept, he said we were the fourth clients to request the living area separate from the kitchen recently. So, yes, separate rooms as my children are older are the way we are going!

Unnoticed glass plate on stove top, stove turned on, glass slivers across open plan kitchen dining and lounge. With toddlers it was mega challenge, only fortunate that had tiled floor! I greatly appreciate a separate kitchen.

I just had a client call me for a kitchen redesign because of this girls videos and one from another KZfaq design influencer KB or whatever. I don’t comment on KZfaq but it’s frustrating to see It really is a trend epidemic right now and these videos are a big effect on that. I’ve been in this business for over 18 years as a contractor and some styles get dated yes but I have never seen the pace these trends are changing at and these designers like this woman are to blame for videos like this. A lot of clients I know have lost thousands of dollars and you can’t tell them nothing because they’ve been programmed to think it’s the new thing. Unbelievable.

I have to say, when it comes to your home but ESPECIALLY your kitchen, do what YOU love. Kitchen remodels are one of the, if not, THE most expensive part of your home to remodel. To follow a trend now that will t be in next year or the next, just isn’t smart. Do what you love and will love for years to come, despite the trends.

I fell in love with a particular style? Era? When I was in my late teens early 20s over the last 30 years I have slowly collected items and furniture from it, few people recognize but my art deco inspired home is strangely enough considered timeless.

Design and trends are good for those who love it. I like to look at it but I have a permanent home and I say I love the look I love wether in style or not. I'm the one living in my house and I like to be surrounded by the things I love. You have a beautiful home and design is beautiful but I personally don't follow trend or style. If you planning on selling the house eventually probably should stay in style boundaries. I want my home to be a home I love the things around me. 😊🌹💞

It’s definitely the style I have currently started in my home but every time I look for cottage inspo it’s either “farmhouse”🤢 or super frilly pastel cottage core. There is another You Tuber that redid her kitchen last year. She put about 5 shelves from counter to ceiling on both sides of her kitchen sink and when it was done she put a few decorative items on the shelves and it look attractive. Unfortunately within a month each shelf was packed with everything from spices to mixing bowls to random items. Every time I see them now I just feel so sad about how it looks.

Totally agree on the shiny things. Never liked it. I would never ever stack the subway tiles vertical, that will be dated much sooner than the horisontal ones. I would rather change the grouting. Here in Scandinavia, white kitchens and light woodtones will never be out of style. We need the light into our homes, because of the long dark winters.

Open concept really didn’t work during Covid. I’m a single person, and when I redid my kitchen, everyone and their mother wanted to knock out the wall between the dining room and my beautiful galley kitchen but I refused. So glad I did! I really like the distinction of having a dining room, and not having to look at the kitchen 24 seven even though it’s beautiful. Each room has its own comfort, elegance & function.

Great video! It clearly illustrates that it is of utmost importance to do what "everyone" is doing, as it was worded. If you have unique ideas of your own....throw them away immediately! Listen only to people like this. It's the only way. As a species we must achieve absolute conformity, and finally extinguish all that troublesome individuality. Bah humbug to that ancient thinking, amirite? Plus, it gives you the wonderful opportunity to spend a hundred grand to renovate your kitchen and bathrooms when that last fad has ended. Bonus! Oddly, they end mainly because "everyone" was doing it. That is inconvenient information for me right now. I'll just forget I ever knew that. Also: for those putting all matt black fixtures in your home, great choice! You're totally not gonna regret that in a year, since now even people whose homes have wheels adore that delightful style. That black finish is rock solid! Won't ever chip, flake, or peel. I swear it. NEVER worry about the future, longevity, and what suits your own individual expression. That's cornball style, yo. Instead, follow the leader. We are good at that. And it's so simple. Just, don't think.

I don't necessarily think the video is telling everyone we need to "revamp" our homes every few years and more for the people either renovating their home currently, maybe to try and sell it at top dollar. Or maybe for someone building their new home from scratch and needing inspiration. Trends are always changing every few years. That's why homes built in the 60s and 70s LOOK like they were built in the 60s and 70s lol. But anyways, I think this video is simply meant to be inspo and guidance for those looking for it. Not meant to shame anyone or tell someone who just renovated 5 years ago and loves their home that they need to take a sledgehammer to it and start from scratch haha

I always love your videos and ideas, Kristen. I do think it’s important to stick with the classics when it comes to expensive and time consuming renovations, like flooring and cabinetry. Trends come and go so quickly these days. Lighter colored flooring has been all the rage for what…maybe a year at most? Now, it’s trending out again? Go classic and keep it simple. If I like a trend, I buy a couple accent pieces. That way it’s not so expensive to change it up in the future.

Trends and in/out of style is always difficult to argue. I think you did some great work and you will not be able to get everyone on board with your perspective, but it is perfectly normal. I appreciate the content and your perspective as a designer. I think you did great to point out the things to avoid that are costly and go out of style, such as backsplash, cabinets sheen, flooring, etc. I think what people struggle in is to coordinate everything together, and cause dated looks. I personally love farmhouse looks and feel it is timeless, such as shiplap. But you are right that it needs to be somewhat more of the accent than the general theme for most homes. If it is a 100 year old house in the country, I would go for 75% farmhouse look. For my rather recent house, I intend to mix in english cottage with modern farmhouse. Colors also do a lot of the difference in feel. Anyway, sorry for the long comment, I appreciate your work and continue to follow your videos. They help a bunch especially as they target normal people wanting to improve their living space, not the overly rich who can give a open account to a designer.
