Venmo @John-Burbidge-3 to buy me a beer for making these free videos. Thx! :) John Burbidge, author of the book "Watching Paint Dry," shows how to paint a ceiling, from cutting in with a brush (edging) to rolling, and get great results. One of the things I've learned in my years of painting-ceilings is that by using a "short" stick, your head is thrown back and both it and your neck are constantly twisting-not good for the neck-especially if you have any neck issues (and if you do this often enough you will wind up with neck issue-which I have). To completely eliminate any head twisting; extend your stick out (about) six-ish feet and work "in front" of you-so that you're looking ahead of you-never to the side. Work backwards-moving towards your backside. Once I figured this out, I never again twisted my head or ever had to tilt it back (slightly-once ina while). You'll catch on quickly and your upper spine will thank you.

As a painting pro, I wanted to let you know I sent this video to my son. He is helping me on a large job and just learning to paint. I started out long before the internet and had a lot of idiots try to show mw how to paint. I became a pro by trial and error and 30+ years experience. I wish I had some videos like yours to help out when I started.

Do you paint side to side like him on a ceiling or forward & backwards?
@rayray8687
@rayray8687 2 жыл бұрын
@@jjmill5209: It makes no difference if you’re using a typical flat ceiling paint. If you’re using a paint with any sort of sheen whatsoever you’re going to have glare one way or another no matter what you do. The main thing is to always do a second coat.

Very good. Excellent point at about 2:16 about finishing into the wet edge..I teach my trainees the same..so many videos seem to miss this..the only thing I would add is I would have started on the right if I was using my right hand, or on the left if using my left hand, this makes for an easier more natural action, instead of sometimes having to position myself so my arm doesnt cross my face.

Sure wish I had watched this video before painting my laundry room ceiling and walls last night! Your tip about cutting in a little at the top of the wall with the angled paint brush would have eliminated my problem of the old beige paint showing through in the corners and where the faulty edger I used kept hitting the popcorn bumps leaving a tiny bit of the wall unpainted. Ugh! Wish I had the energy to redo the job!
