Today on International Firefighters’ Day, please join us in acknowledging and thanking our firefighters and the mahi they do to keep Aotearoa New Zealand safe.
Our firefighters are an important part of many communities around the motu. They no longer respond to just fires and are often first on the scene of motor vehicle crashes, severe weather events and natural disasters. They also play a crucial role in educating our communities about the dangers of fire and work to reduce risk to protect our precious environment.
Today is also a chance to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, both at home and overseas. If you are able to, please take a moment today to remember the firefighters who have died while serving and protecting their communities.
To our firefighters on International Firefighters’ Day, thank you. Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou.
