Another great episode of International Wrestling is up for your enjoyment. This week's show from 1986 features a good opening tag team with four of the most underrated workers of the '80s, Richard Charland & Frenchy Martin vs. Ron Ritchie & Gino Brito Jr., plus lots more great action and interviews. This is a complete episode from the Toronto CityTV feed, so expect to see lots of retro commercials. Featured on this show:
Intro
Richard Charland & Frenchy Martin vs. Gino Brito Jr. & Ron Ritchie
Steve Strong vs. Jeff Gripley
Strong int.
Tom Zenk vs. Ludger Proulx

Thanks to the syndication boom driven by the WWF and an excellent tower antenna..In 1986, I could see this, 3 different WWF programs, the AWA, UWF and the NWA as well as WCCW, the WWA and Savoldi's east coast show from Fri to Sunday night. Truly a golden age

+jdbankshot Calm down guys. No need for the mudslinging. I agree that Strong was very green and needed more experience, but he had the heel demeanor and arrogant interview style down pat. He could have been a lot less stiff when wrestling as he appeared to show little regard for his opponents' safety. That said, he was capable of showing off good power moves and being carried to a good match by more veteran wrestlers (especially Rick Martel, as I have a match between the two from the Greats of International Wrestling video that I'll be sharing soon).

So sad never had an idea as a kid who started watching age 10 around 1985 that the flip of the TV knob and seeing so many different territories would soon be defunct. Watts UWF...1987, Jarrett CWA...1989 Fritz WCCW...1990, Gagne AWA...1991 Don Owen Portland...1992, etc.

The Foster's beer ad reminds me of in my opinion Vince Junior's failed attempt to run on the coattails of Crocodile Dundee with Outback Jack who really lacked in ring ability.

I met Steve Strong 3 times in 1986 at Gold's Gym(where I frequented to hound the wrestlers) in Sudbury ON. They were all nice but Steve was one of the nicer ones who remembered me and signed 5 pics. and posed with me for a pic. during his heel run. Check out his feud with Abdullah. Yes it was slow and methodic but effective for its purpose. I saw them at the Sudbury Arena brawling all over the venue.

For me, I had WWF, AWA, Lutte Internationale, Stampede, and because my grandfather had a satellite dish, Crockett NWA when I visited. The Apter mags helped you keep track of the rest. Originally from Kingston, now in Ottawa.

Scott Irwin left International Wrestling for a short time in 1986 to begin medical treatment for the brain tumor that would take his life 1 year later.
