Hi. I caught the last hour while doing chores. CA programs always make the time go by pleasantly. On the rumor of the Freemason "in charge of" Vatican II, the one I heard named was _not_ Pope St. Paul VI. I'n fact, the story goes that when he was informed of the situation, he said, "The smoke of Satan has infiltrated the Church." The only reason I wish I had paid more attention when I heard the story is so I could try to relate it accurately here. Otherwise, it's just a rumor. I will, however, say that I'm not surprised by some of the accounts of bishops and cardinals, and others, who were either misguided, or outright rebellious. I was born at that time, so obviously I don't know what things were like before then. But from what I've picked up from society in general, coming out of the Second World War, and the atrocities of communism coming to light (never mind the exaggeration of communism's horrors, there really were serious horrors, which I think were probably downplayed precisely because of the exaggerated hysteria), along with the eruptions of wars around the world, and especially the threat of nuclear war, considering all that, I think the men of the Second Vatican Council by and large sincerely wanted a fresh new approach to religion, with a new look, feel, and smell, possibly as a symbolic representation of a break from the horrors of the wars. They were tired. But I'm also aware that some of the men were kind of mean, like when someone decided it would be funny to play a prank on a gentle and mild mannered blind priest who urged going slowly with change. They turned off his microphone because they didn't want to hear what he said, and almost everyone there laughed at him as he was talking. He became confused, not comprehending what they were laughing at, and he returned to his seat in confusion, and the men of the Council laughed even louder. That's just mean, and even though they were all bishops and cardinals, had I been present, I would have given each one of them a respectful swift kick in their rear ends, along with a respectful piece of my mind. I just think that event alone shows that the Council wasn't all good. I accept that it's legitimate, but an incident like that was a kind of curse on the whole thing. I think it shows what the "Spirit of Vatican II" included, despite the sincerity of the men who wanted to usher in an era of peace, love, and understanding. That desire couldn't be achieved when there were pranksters who didn't have enough sense to respect an elderly blind man. That's my opinion.
