In this Ken McNabb Internmania episode, you'll see lessons on Roman riding (standing on the backs of two horses side-by-side), and sliding stops on a finished horse.
Roman Riding Tips:
- Equipment: regular headstalls, bareback pads, quick release attachment between the horses, and a cue whip.
- When trying this for the first time, make sure you have a pair of horses you can really trust to be calm.
- Keep your horses' heads close together when riding.
- Don't utilize a whip/stick in the very beginning until you have good balance.
- Bend your knees, keep your back straight, and keep your eyes up to help your balance.
- Absorb the shock in your knees.
Sliding Stop Tips:
- TRUST the horse to stop.
- Do not lean back, but rather sit deep. Leaning back will not only pull on the reins, but it will put the horse in a position that will get him off balance.
- You want your horse to stop with energy, rather than fall into a stop.
I hope you enjoyed watching this episode as much as we enjoyed creating it! Until next time, may God bless the trails you ride!
