"spending these lonely nights training myself not to care" this line came back to memory today, and it fits so well because it's exactly what I'm doing right now, "training myself not to care [about others]" and being my own light. I never felt this way so strongly in my life. I tried to keep someone in my life because I thought maybe for once I deserve it and now I see it only brings pain. I tried being open, honest and vulnerable, but I'm a mess. I rather not care anymore and just move on in life on my own. It was wrong to think someone would come out of the blue and change a life-long pattern.
@Meyzen762 жыл бұрын

The Good Part? You realise this. Now, you are Free. you write the next Chapters, but no matter what, it’s YOUR Narration, your words, your illustrations, and you are immune from the influences and bothers presented by others. Not many people attain, less recognise, this Gift and it is a Gift. Don’t waste it, learn to Focus it, how to hone and refine it, apply it in real-time/Life. You’ll be Okay. I promise.
@lucy4666Ай бұрын
maybe what you needed was just to focus on yourself. I spent too long caring for someone who didn't care if I lived or died, so when they left I was able to find myself again and give myself the grace I deserved. thing in life is not relying on someone else for love, only yourself. the rest comes and goes, and that's neither good nor bad, just is.
@connorklingman37112 жыл бұрын
Having spent most of my life nearly anti-social, this song hits me hard realizing how good friends I have had since childhood. More importantly, it made me realize how dreadful it is to experience everything else by myself without the comfort of others. Since the pandemic, I have become more fearful of spending the rest of my days not having done enough and being alone. EDIT: The music video does a great job in portraying these feelings in which I have been having for some time. The lighting and editing blend seamless well that it does a fantastic job of conveying a dark and gray mood. The song itself is well composed in helping to reflect this. I look forward to better days.

I think it was in 2011, I had never heard of interpol (idk how I’d never heard them until then) and I was living in Portland Maine. My dad and sister were in Boston for the weekend so I was going to spend some time with them. My dad asked me if I’d ever listened to interpol and I said no. He asked if I’d be down to see them at the House of Blues and I figured why not. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. They sound so good live I’ve loved all their music ever since and it always brings me back to that time of my life

To me, this song represents multiple things. First, being a track off of their first album, which is titled “Turn on the bright lights” this song symbolizes the bands break into mainstream music. They have a voice, and so far their hometown (New York) has given them recognition and attention and it’s the decision of, do they settle as a small time NY band? Or do they break out into the world of music and leave their hometown behind? (New York Cares) (got to be some more change in my life) etc. another explanation of what this song means is much more deeper and personal. It’s about stardom. It’s about chasing after a dream, and believing in yourself. It’s about realizing that where you are in your journey of life might not be perfect, but it’s up to you to change things around for the better. “It’s up to me now, Turn on the bright lights” is a metaphor for waking up your inner potential, giving it your all, and proving to not only yourself, but the world, what you’re capable of. This always will, to me, be one of the most beautiful songs of all time. On of the greatest albums of all time. Period.

Two great interpretations! I’ve also heard that this song is about NYC trying to to recover itself after 9/11 (2001-2002 era)
@wiktorsterner62952 жыл бұрын
i agree with the second interpretation. this song really feels to me like banks has a struggle to fit in to the world and that something in his life needs to change. The fact he says there has “got to be some more change” suggests that he has grown sick of the routine he finds himself in.
@tonyluengas8160 Жыл бұрын
I like both interpretations because I’d like to think that the album is about NYC in a dreadful state so either A it is a song about Banks and the band thinking about changing and moving on and improving however it could also be a song in the perspective of or about the everyday life of a normal NYC citizen. Both make sense and it could be a little bit of both and it is just an amazing song.
