For a guy who doesn't like to play bass, Carlos fucking rocks. His basslines on TOTBL and Antics are smooth and crispy. Guy had a hell of a lot of talent.
@SanchezS19984 жыл бұрын
In retrospect, he was probably uniquely talented *because* he didn’t like bass. I’ve noticed that when creative people feel limited or even trapped by the limitations of the budget, gear, manpower, etc. at their disposal, they “optimize” their work to the limitations of the hand they’ve been dealt, and sometimes, beautiful things happen as a result.

So I started playing bass in punk bands not taking it seriously until I heard this song specifically Mr Dengler's bass playing. I cannot stress enough how unorthodox his lines are. He's a lead guitar player and plays the bass not like a bass player but like a lead guitarist hence why the bass sounds the way it does.
@US-wc1rv Жыл бұрын
I can't believe he didn't like playing tbh, you can't write lines like that on sn instrument you dislike. Sounds like he said this as a cop out after regretting leaving the band lol

@@SanchezS1998 100% the truth. When I was a child, I became a very natural, and very talented Violin player. The fact was I was forced by parents and I HATED the Instrument. I dreamed of owning a set of drums but we were very poor and school only had Mariachi Orchestra which I also did not like.

They've started wearing formal wear for the concerts to show that they were taking music seriously, and to differentiate themselves from other bands. Why do I find this little fact so awesome?

@Ruby-eq1qg3 жыл бұрын
That wasn't the reason why actually and i thino the real reason is even cooler. I believe they initially got together as a band because they all shared a similar taste for fashion and they naturally kept up their formal wear when they made it big and it became part of their look. If i remember correctly, the bassist was mistaken to be interested in the band or something because he dressed similarly but thats just how he dressed lol but i might've gotten a little mixed up but yeah i love how they dress

And that's exactly why he was the bassist! He was actually a guitar player and didn't like to play bass _that much._ Daniel (the guitarist) was looking for a bass player for his band and he invited Carlos because "he looked like a bass player". He accepted and the rest was history.

the reason why carlos was so evidently content here was simply cause they were barely starting out, this was like the beginning basically when they started to tour and stuff, eventually that just sort of got to him and later down the road years later like I'm talking our love to admire interpol, by then i believe he felt alienated from it all and was ultimately burnt out. thats how i see it.
@nikodemanthony57754 жыл бұрын
i can't see why a lot of interpol's fanbase can't be reasonable about it. i love him, but making music is an often emotionally demanding job just like any other, and people change over the years.
