Fun fact: there are parts of Greece that use Medusa as a figurehead for women's shelters (especially those for battered women) - she's seen as a protector of women, with the interpretation that her stone gaze was not a curse, but rather a gift from Athena to protect her from further abusers. (Unfortunately it's hard to say for certain with how myths and legends have been altered or retold over the years, but I personally like this interpretation :) )

Exactly. Lots of people see the bad side of Medusa, thinking she's a monster. No one sees her backstory. The pain she suffered, the pain she'll protect the other people from

The thing is that Medusa has 2 back stories. Her original backstory is her just being a gorgon with her sisters. The second was written by a man who wanted to change the image of Athena and therefore she began a victim of the gods. Its the same thing with Arachne :) I'm not saying that you can't enjoy or keep the story that Cae is telling, you are very welcome to do that, but it is important not to spread misinformation, such as the idea that Medusa was "always a victim" or that she is not a monster in the mythology. It's important to keep the original context of how and why the stories are the way they are. Again, go on! Have fun with reinterpretations! I don't want to come across as being mean :) it's just a fact that MOST times that you see someone refer to Medusa as a monster, they are using the original framework. I like to simply think of it as two separate Medusas, but I have to keep the information that, if there are two Medusas, then they are not interchangeable. An interesting way that the "oops, these people/gods/monsters have the same name" is Aphrodite who was worshipped in 3 major ways; as a love goddess (usually divided into "pure" love and "impure" love, ei worldly love and personal love) by the Greek in general, as Mother Superior of Rome and as a war goddess by the Spartans. Its really interesting :) Maybe we can separate the Medusas into Human Medusa and Gorgon Medusa and just acknowledge that they both exist, partly independently from each other. Sorry for info dumping! I'm just very interested in this topic!

Her true name deserves these, Medusa: The protecter, defender, misunderstood, the good goddess of truth. It’s amazing how even when she was cursed, she continued helping people without complaint.

And to be fair she got cursed by the goddess she was completely faithful to, Because Poseidon decided to touch what wasn't his. So yes it is a tale of tragedy but the fact that even after all that she is still an idol to people is aw inspiring.

I like the concept of Medusa protecting other young women from suffering the same fate she did and getting them some justice if they do get assaulted. I feel more sympathy for Medusa now than when I was younger. In one movie I like "Clash of the Titans" (the reboot) Io tells Perseus and the other men what happened to Medusa and it's the same story Cae tells in a couple of her videos. I definitely root for her now. Amazing video Cae. It's fantastic!!! ❤

I wish she was a protector for me. I won’t go into detail, but I was SA in eighth grade. I felt like I couldn’t talk openly about it (meaning the only people who knew about it were there that night along with my school mentor.) until I saw your take on Medusa’s story. In my interpretation, and opinion of the myth, I believe that Athena gave Medusa her powers and the snake hair and stuff as a gift, so she could protect herself and other women from going through what she had to go through.
