An interracial couple in Mississippi was evicted from their home by their landlord. The landlord said he received too many complaints because they are a white woman married to a black man. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

“The landlord at a Mississippi RV park admitted over the weekend that he evicted a couple because they were interracial.
Gene Baker told The Clarion-Ledger that he asked Erica Flores Dunahoo and her African-American husband, Stanley Hoskins, to leave his RV park in Tupelo because “the neighbors were giving me such a problem.”
Dunahoo, who is Native American and Hispanic, explained to the paper that she and her husband moved into the RV Park in February to save money and get their life “back on track.”

You want New York values. Here it is: I live with my Black fiancé, I am White. No one takes any notice. In our building there are Black, Hispanic, Arabic and White people and we all get along fine. Also, throughout the City couples are very typically mixed and people take no notice.

Long ago and far away, my boyfriend and I were looking for a new apartment. This was on a college campus. After viewing a lovely double, my boyfriend asked if the landlord would have a problem renting to us. We were and still are both white. His reply? "No problem. I have a unit rented to a couple who are black and white with a zebra kid. I have no problems with musicians."

I live in Canada. We are a multicultural society. If you immigrate to here you need to accept the blanket society of Canada. Practice your culture anyway you want, but certain things must be shed away in order to conform to the law. No child brides, No honor killings. No lynchings or burning crosses. Racism does exist here too. It is not condoned or openly practiced, but it exists. The main reason it exists is because of ignorance of other cultures, and bad experiences with just a few individuals within that other culture. I have to admit to being racist, well more prejudiced, towards Texans. I met one couple who asked for directions, the guy had a big ass hat and cigar, she had a poofy hairstyle, but they were one the nicest, and jokey people I've met online or off :) I wish I had gotten their names to thank them for making my day, and illuminating a prejudice I never thought I had.

Robe Spier Bah, humbug. We're all just one species, and superficial differences in phenotypical appearance are just cosmetic and meaningless. We're different shades of pink, brown, and black, we've got all kinds of different hair colours and textures, different eye colours, different face shapes, but that doesn't mean anything at all, except that many human populations didn't experience much genetic exchange with non-neighbouring ones for a few thousand years. And a few thousand years is basically nothing for a species that has existed for a quarter million years.

And since humanity is about to face its biggest crisis ever, the first global crisis, we should get all the genetic exchange we can in order to make our survival as a species more likely.

Robe Spier If you look at modern biology, you will notice that they have abandoned the idea of Homo sapiens having races. Our own genetic diversity as a species is rather low, so most of the differences between human populations are due to the fact that they were founded by a very small number of individuals. There are some differences that are in fact due to adaptation, and skin colour is one of them - the melanin in your skin regulates UV radiation. Also, long and narrow noses are better suited to cold, wet winters.

I'm mixed race. Mum is Jamaican and dad is English. Seeing interracial couples no matter what race they are is a thing of beauty. Ask yourself this if being mixed is such a bad thing then why do mixed countries like Puerto Rico and Brazil have some of the most attractive people in the world? I'm not going to sit here and say all mixed people are attractive but there is a high percentage. I was dating a girl who was half Filipino half Swedish and she was one of the most beautiful women I have seen.

Something similar happened to a friend of mine. She was engaged and trying to get an apartment. There was one place she chose who seemed to be cool with her and seemed like she'd be able to move into, but as soon as the guy read the fiance's name and learned that the guy she was marrying was Chinese, he rejected her application. There's less that can be done in this situation. Obviously, it's not the same as being kicked out based on your race and the landlord doesn't owe you a place to live just because you want to live there, but it's still total bullshit.

+GiovannisSanctuary I love my family. I was lucky enough too see the hate from a young age though. I like the way you didnt comeback with anger. Everybody's opinions and values are shaped through life. Something bad could've happened to you or someone you know or love by another race. That usually galvanize people's beliefs. The whole 'white' thing is really juvenile thinking. I just woke up so my thoughts are jumbled. :/

Why is racism wrong, exactly? As for racism being bad for business, I see no evidence that that is true. America was more prosperous under segregation than it is now with all this diversity and anti-discrimination (anti-freedom) laws.

Shawn Gilmore There are things that can be taken out of context in the Bible quite easily, mind giving where in the Bible it says to not date out of your race? I’ll tell you I’ll likely not date too far from my race not because the Bible says so, but because of what I find attractive personally, and what I want my kids and grandkids to look like.

I'm American married to an Indian national. We had one experience where we wanted to sublet an apartment while my husband completed his PhD (sublet means that you legally take over someone's lease so they don't have to break it, for example if they are relocating). After meeting the girl in person she decided not to sublet to us immediately as soon as she saw us. She made up a story about occupancy laws. But, she was made aware of the situation before we drove one hour to meet with her. We called the complex and researched, and we would not have been violating any laws.

Ana has a point. Minority groups (especially Asians) are hella prejudice against other nationalities. Old school Asian parents/grandparents find it below me to date Indians or Mexicans or Blacks. Luckily my parents are progressive but my cousin was threatened to be disowned for dating just OUTSIDE of her nationality, so off limits on Japanese or Vietnamese as well. Plus a Chinese girl I know wasn't allowed to go to prom with a guy since he was Indian. Luckily, these ideas are dying with new generations and no old racist Asian has achieved political power in America.

Unfortunately, racism is absolutely still alive and well in this country. This couple shouldn't have to defend who they are. No one should have to attest to why they're suitably respectable or worthy of living without prejudice and discrimination. If you're tired of hearing about racism, imagine how incredibly exhausting it must be living it every single day.

***** Dude I'm not stereotyping this is a fact. Mississippi has the lowest educational system than all other states. They don't have the funding to provide proper things for the schools. Not saying they are going to school in shacks or anything like that. America does have a bad educational system overall but Mississippi is at the bottom of America's educational system.

I am black. My girlfriend is white. We live together. I have found I get less flexibility in negotiations with my landlord. We are treated differently.
