INTERVIEW | 15 questions with "JINJER"

Күн бұрынWe met Tatiana and Eugene from the Ukrainian Metal band JINJER at Cult Nürnberg. On May 19th we had a nice chat outside the venue. Besides their current tour “Against The Stream” we talked about life on the road (yep, the van does work right now), difficulties when being a full-time musician and songwriting in general. JINJER doesn’t want to be called a “female fronted Metal band”, this term seems to be very difficult for the band. Despite musical skills Tatiana doesn’t want to be cut down to her appearance. Most important for them is to work hard on their instruments and play great shows. This outlines also an important advice for young bands: Work hard to improve your skills, be a Rockstar later. In 2017 JINJER will continue touring - besides that they already created ideas for the next album.

I'm head over heels in love with Tatiana (obviously), but Eugene seems like a good dude. Every time I see their vlogs or interviews he just seems like a genuinely cool guy.

Blake I met the band last month in Centurion. South Africa 🇿🇦 Possibly the best live band I’ve ever seen. Eugene & the rest of the guys are super friendly...Tatiana was extremely different to onstage persona & was extremely shy at the meet & greet. It was like she didn’t want to be there.

Im sure they will improve their english in a couple years after touring, they already speak very good. You can see Tatyana wanted to talk about thet female frontman topic a lot but she just couldnt find the right words or expressions, phrasals,etc. But i think every fan got her point.

Tatiana sounds so American when she sings. It’s funny. Her lyrics seem translated in a way, but her phrasing and sound is kind of American. I love her voice btw.

'Appearances can be deceiving'.... Is what I think she was trying to convey around 16:30. She tries avoiding dressing and appearing too feminine because she doesn't want it to take away from the music.... And anyway, looks can be deceiving. Bless her soul.... She's adorable when she's trying to navigate the English language.

I think because she was saying "I don't want people to be influenced first by my.. (Russian word)" she was about to say female form.. I don't really see the word femininity as a synonym for sexiness which is where she was going. She's obviously fine with many people liking how she looks but she'd rather be judged on the basis of her performance and writing abilities (and who could blame her!)

Interesting that in this interview Tatiana said her English got so bad and she's obviously struggling to find words at times. Then in interviews just a year later, she's quite fluent again.

jamison odiet Was I have a friend who has been touring for almost two years with a band and yea that shit gets tiring. Sure it’s fun to travel, meet new people and perform in different venues but eventually you get tired out with the hectic scheduling, long flights, and the cramped spaces. I can imagine how uncomfortable it gets to be around your coworkers constantly in a small bus

Yeah I foresaw that happening when I saw their tour schedule. At the time I remember thinking, there’s a burnout waiting to happen. And Tatyana looks pretty worn here. I hope they get some rest and schedule their next tour with a little more down time between dates. I’d kinda like to see these guys and girl stay together for awhile.

I don't care if she is a pretty face, she has some of the best vocals in a metal band. The only other band that I can think of that can change from dirty vocals to clean vocals is Mudvayne, and they are badass band too.

English isn't my native language so i completely understand the challenging difficulty of articulating and therewith verbally expressing oneself. Tatiana is doing the very best she can trying to verbalize the answer, however if she was permitted by the interviewer to answer the questions in her indigenous language it wouldn't be problematical.

In almost every interview I've seen, after watching I feel like Tatiana doesn't seems to have moments of being nice and other times seems too important to be bothered. Just sitting there with her arms folded...come on. Eugene on the other hand seems like a super down to earth cool guy.

If you read/translate texts of the jinjer's song (Tatiana wrote most of them), you can feel she is very introvert person, it van be very uncomfortable to communicate to the strangers for her... IMHO.

Introverted people are often viewed as being “stuck up” or “bored” by extroverts who misread our body language as such. Our minds are constantly reeling and flying in all sorts of directions and sometimes it’s really difficult to put these thoughts into words, and be able to respond to others in a way that is considered to be socially acceptable. In this video, all of this including the language barrier, I actually applaud Tatiana for trying. I get anxious even just talking on the phone or having pictures taken of me.
