We had a nice talk with Grant Samuelsen from Shunyata Research. We talk about how the company works, how they design their equipment ánd about an interesting new product: the Altaira. A grounding system that should improve the musical reproduction of practically any system. As a bonus we check out the Gemini: a small filter with also a grounding system.

Im sure this system works, but there are far more less expensive things someone can and first should do to ensure they have a healthy electrical system that is up to code and will help your gear's performance. These boxes or conditioners won't be beneficial if the electrical system is a mees or is compromised to begin with. 1st do some research and hire a licensed electrician to make sure your home's electrical wiring is in good condition. Ask them if you have copper wiring or (hopefully not) alluminum cladded copper wiring. Sockets should also feel sturdy and they should be firmly grabbing the plug. 2nd is that your sockets and electrical panel are all properly grounded with the least amount of resistance. Polarity (hot and neutral) to them should be correct and not reversed. 3rd is that the connections to the main earth ground from the home's panel and any wires connected to it are free of corrosion and properly tied to it. The ground rod should also be checked so it has low resistance and isn't heavily corroded. These rods are made of either copper (fantastic) or anodized/bare steel rebar, and can fail in time from moisture and weathering. 4th is having an electrician make sure ground screws and terminals inside the main service panel are properly tightened down and are free of oxidation. Deoxit can be used on open exposed wire. 5th is that all the breakers are working properly and are not showing signs of stress from over heating or loose from age. Checking all this or getting an understanding of your own home's electrical system's integrity is far more less expensive than you'd think. From there you will hear a big difference if something is wrong and is corrected. While he's there you can even ask for an estimate for separate main lines to your audio system with 10 or 12 gauge Copper wire. After all this, then you could start looking into power conditioning, regeneration, or a HI-FI grounding system. Happy listening

18:30 If a Cable Internet or Cable Tv customer is getting a buzz or hum, the cable installer probably did not properly ground their service coax connection to your home. They should be using a coaxial ground block ($7.00) in between their service connection and your home. That ground point should then be gounded to your home's grounding rod or where the entire home's electric service is grounded.

It's also dangerous not to ground it, the voltage potential difference can reach several tens of volts in worst cases, and during electromagnetic storm when lightning strikes nearby the induced electromagnetic impulse can be destructive.

Great Interview! IME getting the power right is one of the foundational elements of a system build...alongside device isolation, room treatment/isolation and speaker placement. The quieter your listening environment the deeper you see into the music. I use Shunyata Shunyata power cables and the Everest (for front-end) and Denali (for switches) conditioners, with all components chassis grounded to the Everest...couldn't be happier. I also use Entreq and Kojo for additional chassis grounding of pre-amp, switch and the DAC. The difference is not subtle...the ambient noise in my room is 30db on average, going down to 29db later at night. Love your videos...keep up the good work. Cheers from Australia!

I have Telos active grounding in my system. (The GNR 5.1) As Grant mentions, and the Telos dealer in Australia recommends, I use chassis ground, which requires attaching a 5mm spade -ended ground cable to a chassis screw. As Grant also mentions, there is a breathtaking improvement in SQ!

I have to an older single ended DAC and lifting it's ground clears up it's noise by a lot. Why does this happen? Will a chassis grounding box help further?
@TheAlphaAudio
@TheAlphaAudio 9 ай бұрын
Lifting the ground prevents ground noise from entering the device. Grounding the chassis can help. It depends on the layout.

Interesting interview, thanks so much!! What I not realized, because not a big Shunyata Fan in regards of complete overpriced gear (working in verticals where price doesnt matter!!) where there research is coming from. All materials can be manipulated on molecular level, thats nature, but we cant measure it obviously. What I criticsm is, if you add another cable + 2 more interconnects, of course you loose something in you signal path. So this needs to be compensate again.... THOSE INTERVIEWS love it, KEEP GOING & thanks for your efforts!

Not necessarily. If the grounds of the cables are well-connected, they can improve shielding of the entire system.
