As a child he said, "Just because you're used to something, doesn't mean you like it." That is pretty much why he did and acted how he did. Then he went to prison, and he found out there were way worse things to be used to and not like.

That was interesting, the scene where he says that to his mother, because when he says “you’re used to me” his voice changes, becomes a little yearning, like he is hoping Eva will respond with something to reassure that she does like him.

IT WAS SUCH A POWERFUL MOVIE, GAH... SERIOUSLY I HAVEN'T FELT EMOTIONS LIKE THAT FROM A FILM IN JUST YEARS.

I think a big problem with this film was publicity. I stumbled over this excellent film by accident. Its here free on KZfaq for the moment. I recommend it. It beats following the endless algorithm of more of the same. There must be 90,000 videos on PH and titration methods. I have seen enough holes in one. I recap aircrash investigations in my sleep. Finally, art. On film no less. And its not boring but penetrating and feeds the mind questions we can never answer.

Most psychopaths are not violent. Those that have committed atrocities have stated that the lack of love they were shown as a child was the underlying factor for their vio lence: either the psychopathic child was abused or witnessed perpetual abuse in the home (usually dv). Otherwise, people can find psychopaths anywhere, especially as business CEOs and politicians.

Seeing clips I assumed the boy was evil. But seeing that end clip...where he tells her you can be use to something but still not like it and then she goes on about another and he says youre use to me...and she says well. Like wtf. Wow. If my kid had of said that to me my heart would have dropped, so yeah, she def wasnt feeling it. I need to see the movie. But I do find the whole pathos is result of mommy not loving to be rather sexist and patriarchal even. Seems to wreak with woman hatred and yet daddy dufus is well, useless. For once Id like to see movie about serial killer with mother who adores her child. Because maybe just maybe there is true evil thats just Is. I think we are terrified to admit that because its something out of our control and that I think begs looking into...

It's ridiculous how the book meant to deliberately confuse the reader as to whether or not the Mother or Son was responsible (or both). Of course, we are given a film produced with the same angle we hear everywhere: "Believe women".

Wtf are you talking about? You dont think that the scene of her purposefully standing next to loud ass construction with her infant child, or the scene of her taking him and throwing him across the room was a pretty bad look?

@@chain12bb Hardly, compared to the book. Even in that scene, it shows how the baby screams so loudly and distressingly for Eva that hearing construction noises are comparatively soothing. It's a scene I'm sure to some extent resonates with many mothers' experiences of raising a child, even if it is exaggerated. It can easily be interpreted as portraying a sympathetic view of Eva. Compare that to the book. Her son claims he was sexually assaulted, and she sees him as an outright liar. In almost every situation in the book, whether or not Kevin perpetrated any malevolent act (apart of course from the shooting) is open to interpretation and ambiguous. It's impossible to know whether Eva hates the boy so much that she is simply interpreting his looks as malevolent and evil, and he in reality is just behaving normally. In the movie, he literally looks her in the eye with these evil looks. There's nothing ambiguous about that. The movie clearly took a side. That's not to say that the side it took is wrong. It's to say that we don't have the other side with the movie

@@evandewind4264 I'm saying I liked the book and I think the movie is ridiculous. The movie just seems to go with the feminist zeitgeist instead of telling a compelling story that provokes taking on new perspectives. I liked that I didn't know if Eva was a monster mother or if Kevin was a monster son, and that with the book, I was just left with evidence and no clear answer. It motivated me to take both perspectives and explore the narrative more deeply. The movie just took a side and ran with it.

Has anyone else gotten a little annoyed at how inarticulate Lynne Ramsay is? Lol. I'm trying to get quotes from her for an essay i'm doing... and all i'm getting is ''I mean'', ''You know'', and ''Um's''. Ugh.

No not at all, in fact I love that, because she is a film maker not a professional interviewee. It does annoy me that Tilda hogs the interview so much though.
