Horrible; did any of these stories ever make the NY newspapers, I often wondered?

Linda Lawton Talk about newspapers and reporting incidences, allow me to tell you what pissed me off about the double standard in the org, especially toward women: My oldest sister [then 25 y.o.] and I [just 16 y.o.] were on our way to spend the night at her new home one summer Saturday evening in 1981 when we were suddenly accosted at gunpoint, pistol whipped, and raped by two assailants. The incident devastated both of us. A very kind elder accompanied us and our Mother to the hospital along with the police. The elder stayed with us at the hospital from 10:45 PM to 4 AM despite having to go to work that morning! The next day, that same elder visited us with the Presiding Overseer who barked at me for going with my sister ....😔. She asked me to go with her to help her decorate her new place. Neither of us foresaw what was about to happen. He essentially blamed me for being raped! No comfort, not crag in the storm. None of that elder supportive stuff. I knew Jesus would have NEVER talked down to me like that. The next week at the meeting, the secretary elder approached us and said the entire congregation knew what happened to us because they read it in a local newspaper. When we challenged the elder to tell us which newspaper the story was in, he said he didn't know which one. My sister and I asked the detectives working on our case if it was in the papers. The detectives adamantly said it was not because that would be violating victim's rights. They also wanted to know which newspaper the story was in but none of the elders could tell them either. Somebody was lying. Well, a week later the elders decided to give a local needs talk about "Dinah". This really cut me to the core of my soul! I knew that talk targeted us and it was misapplied. My sister and I were going HOME - to her new place. WE were NOT cavorting with the "daughters of the land" like Dinah was in the habit of doing! Yet, the elders found it appropriate to discuss that awful story knowing what happened to us as if we did something wrong. As if we ASKED for that to happen! For 10 long excruciating minutes the brother kept digging in on the fact that Dinah was raped for not obeying her father Jacob and blah, blah blah. I felt like we were being raped all over again! They didn't give a damn that he was misapplying the scripture. But all along I kept feeling that there was a cover up. That some of the married elders went blabbing their mouths off to their nosy elderette wives and THAT is how the story really got out. No confidentiality at all! That was also the day I started to question things and that was the day I lost who I was. I lost myself. I mean for years I was a psychological MESS! Being stared at and labeled as not good enough for marriage by the false prophetesses and uppity elders wives. I had goals of pioneering and Bethel service since I was a kid! I got baptized at 15 and was really looking forward to a spiritual career. After that tragic event, however, I wasn't the same "Abigail" or Shunamite they older sisters used to call me. I was now tainted. Used. No damn good. It wasn't until I got disfellowshipped 2x when I finally sort therapy to save myself because I was surely going to kill myself on several occasions. After hearing that you're no good long enough, you start to believe it. I nearly lost my mind and the Witnesses sat back and watched, hoping I'd prove those judgmental Pharisees right. Lo! And behold! 30 yrs later, F.O.I.A [FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT] enabled me to gain access to the archives of every newspaper in NYC to see if there was an article about the robbery and rape incident. I was also able to retrieve the police report and the court documents as part of my therapy and healing. Guess what? NONE OF THE NEWSPAPERS HAD EVEN MENTIONED THE STORY! NOT ONE NEWSPAPER and believe me I hunted and scoured every one of them. So now I knew who lied. I shared this with you to say this.....the way rape victims are treated in the org is horrendous! Their callous actions and twisting scriptures to suit their purpose is a common maelstrom that stigmatize and ruins lives. What kept me going is Jesus' loving example, my beautiful grown son, and that one loving elder who sat with us in the hospital all those hours. He is no longer a Witness since 1995. Yes, they pick and choose what needs to be printed and broadcast to the congregations, and keep tragic events at Bethel hush hush. And they pick and choose who to drive nails into when they want to project authority on the lowly. But Jehovah sees EVERYTHING and knows EVERYTHING. And later down the road, some of those same elders had to be either removed or disciplined for some infraction or false step. There is A GOD. This I know.

James, you are correct....God is NOT that way. In fact, he is so good and loves you so much that he gave his only begotten son to die for your sins. Please James...put your faith in Jesus.

I feel for your pain...please youtube Bill Donahue on the real truth of the bible...the beautiful truths of the scripture is not what RELIGION is teaching...they have twisted it to support mind control - as in Government (to govern the mind - CONTROL) When you see what he has uncovered you will be shocked at knowing that truth starts with YOU...Peace!

BeGoodNow5​ I have not left Jehovah or loss my faith in the ransom provision given through his own beloved son Christ Jesus.....I just drifted away from serving men and being under the control and influence of mortal men who thinks that salvation comes through them rather than Christ by acting pharisacal.....Rather than keep becoming a slave to men, and giving to them worshipfull honor....I've decided to let my worship go to God and to obey God rather than men....AMEN.

Good, that makes me very happy to hear that. So many in our position, after coming to a knowledge of some of the things discussed on this sight and many others, loose all love for the True God, some even fall away to believing in Satanic doctrines like the Trinity after befriending worshippers of those faiths. Many loose their believe in God all together and start down the road to changing their lives to more closely correspond to that of the people of this immoral world system, thinking that they have found freedom. And yes, they have found freedom of a sort, but not the type that leads to life. That's because of them not having enough insight to realize that the 'Org', as they call it, does not equate to the Glorious and Righteous God Jehovah. Also of not understanding that the holy scriptures show that there hasn't been an earthly organized people of His, that did not eventually leave Him and go off into apostasy. Even the Christian congregation of the 1st Century eventually left the teaching of our Lord Christ Jesus and went of into apostasy after the death of his Apostles. So it is no real wonder that some of the issues presenting themselves today within the association of JWs have arisen. This shouldn't be a surprise, because hasn't Satan been working hard to undermining it? What did Christ Jesus say at Matt 13:24-30, 36-43. But as he has taught us, a very serious cleansing is coming the way of the True Christian Congregation when the "Refiner" of Malachi 3:1-18 arrives at the "Temple", which contrary to fictitious latter-day WatchTower prophecy, hasn't happened yet! Yet it may be one thing to go out from under the umbrella of the WTS, which may indeed be loosening some very authoritarian chains from a person, but why would anyone want to renege on their dedication to the True God and be induced to loosing their love for Him because of the actions of men and situations, that scripture has forewarned us about? They have truly fallen at the first hurdle of the race, especially when the real fiery tests are still future. That is not to say that some have not undergone some very real and serious trials already, which the WTS may have a lot to answer for from what I can determine, yet I am not judge to be able to lay the blame squarely at anyone's feet. God will deal with those who are doing the stumbling, and those who are transforming what should be a "Resting place" with their "Command upon command", and scattering His sheep. You on the other hand, do not let anyone on this sight or anywhere else allow you to experience "ship wreck" concerning your faith as so many have! Keep well.

Never mind, I found it. Here’s a link to a website that has all the watchtower info. The only time I have heard of someone refer to “the mother” was a family member that got into witchcraft......now hearing the Org wants us to refer to her as “the mother”, scares the crap out of me.....I have family still in this organization! mmoutreach.org/jw-mother.

@@zachd2277 the 'Mother' referred to in the pagan faiths is Mother Earth/Mother Nature.. nothing more. I studied the pagan religions and a lot of lies have been told about it over the decades. I found it fascinating and quite pure in its teachings.

Dino Morell Good, get back as soon as you can. However know this. All the stuff being discussed on the net is not without basis. Please, please, please, go back with your eyes open and understand that men are making the decisions by which the WTS and the association of brothers under its umbrella are being guided at this time and not God or Christ Jesus, for if the men at Brooklyn Bethel are really the 'Faith and Discreet slave' of Matt 24, they are doing an appointed work in the Masters 'absence' and will render an account as to what they did when he returns, which quite obviously hasn't happened yet. You are dedicated to Jehovah God and Christ Jesus, not to the Watchtower Society. The congregation exists to help you to become a mature Christian, not to dictate to you every facet of how you should live your life and to rule over you. JWs have the basic teachings correct, but their interpretation of latter-day prophecy is a complete mess, as the scriptures foretold, many are content to have their "ears tickled." That is not to say that JWs are not God's chosen people in these later times, we certainly are, and for the reason that you already know, having dedicated and baptised yourself in His name and the name of our Lord, Christ Jesus. But be careful to glorify God, for many amongst us have fallen to glorifying the society, believing that by doing so they are doing God's will. Hopefully, you know or will learn the difference! Keep well.

you have to understand that it's hard to weave that phrase out of your vocabulary, especially when you've been using it for so long. just because a person is out of the WT, it doesn't mean they completely abandon the Witness lexicon. phrases like "the truth" and"worldly" might be forever ingrained in their subconscious and they might have a freudian slip and say it. that's how influential the society is
